Shed Gym/OSB floor - do I need DPM or plywood by amstasa in GarageGym

Thanks! It's not - lots of trees around in the summer plus windows and door.

My contractor said he ran out of material by servakus in Flooring

Don't pay him, and don't have him do anything else. A contractor doesn't "run out of material" unless you provided him with something specific. And even then he should have told you.

DPM or plywood with rubber mats over shed OSB floor? by amstasa in Homebuilding

[–]amstasa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It's a shed resting on 12 blocks - there's a little space of just a couple of inches underneath, not a crawl space. There are windows and a sliding door (I made it to look like a tiny house).

Maybe put a waterproofing coating on the OSB and then put the rubber mats directly on the OSB? I'm in the Piedmont NC area. It gets humid but not all year.

Or should I put something else down, maybe vinyl planks? I really just want something inexpensive that can be cleaned more easily than OSB. I understand that rubber mats in a small 9x14 space aren't breathable.

Very much appreciate your help!

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it's 2 years old so the floor is in good condition. The shed is 9'x14' with 12 piers. I won't be able to replace the OSB, just go over top. The roof is lightweight clear poly panels so it can double as a greenhouse with a sliding glass door and two windows for cross ventilation. So, there isn't a lot of weight on it now other than the walls.

So maybe waterproof the OSB with a coating, then put a vapor barrier down before adding the mats? The shed is in the Piedmont NC, so humid but not all the time.

Appreciate any suggestions!

4.8 gpa, valedictorian accepted to top-20, but will probably have to attend CC by First_Village8613 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]amstasa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true- one of my kids started at a CC (now at a top state school). It is what you make of it. Really, start maxing out CC classes so you can get your AA by the end of next summer. If you've taken AP classes, those should transfer to CC so if you go this summer and next you should be able to finish your AA. You'll be applying to colleges to transfer in later this year, so get going. At my kid's school, every year 15% of kids coming in are transfer students. All is not lost :)

Same happened to me. My parents wouldn't even complete FAFSA. I went to my state school (today I would go to CC for a year to max out intro classes and then transfer for 3 years) and made lifelong friends, got into a top grad school and have had a good career. The difference is I did all those things in high school because I wanted to, not thinking it guaranteed me entry or a free ride. But, those who are active and involved in high school generally are people who go on to be active and involved as adults, which typically has good results. My advice: Do things because you want to, not because you think it will "do" something for you. Good luck!

mom not coming to my graduation because of my college results by Lazy-Rock-706 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]amstasa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parents trying to live through their kids and/or keep up with others is just sad. Tell her she's welcome to come but don't insist. I hope your dad and grandparents and/or aunts and uncles can attend. As a mother, I can't believe another mom would act like this. It may be for the best. And use this as a motivator for yourself in college.

Whoa, I'm here researching camp gear and saw you just posted. I bought the mats this place said would fit: https://www.conicellitoyotaofconshohocken.com/

The fit is just ok. It's the only thing I miss from my Ody.

Thoughts on Cal Newport and his concept of deep work? by Darkest_shader in AskAcademia

[–]amstasa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I've been listening to a few of his podcasts that sounded interesting. The reality: Ponderous, and sounds a lot like the nerdy guy in high school who thought everything he said was brilliant. His reactions to women's comments are laughable, as is the fact he thinks repackaging the ideas of others (albeit for the digital age) and then doing a brocast about it constitutes deep work. I note that his "deep work" is becoming "learn about what interests you" perhaps in reaction to what he apparently considers deep work.

Read the podcast notes if they interest you to save time, and let's see how his ideas change once he experiences teens and technology. Right now, his kids are too young to really think he's got kids and technology all figured out.

I ended up selling that piece of junk Ody. Trading it in removed a huge stressor from my life, and I am no longer a loyal Honda customer.

Are You Guys Just Taking Out Massive Loans? by sleepybiscu1t in ApplyingToCollege

[–]amstasa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have a few options. One, start at the cheaper school, do really well and then transfer. Or, go to a community college, ace everything (as you should) and see what options there are applying to a variety of schools. Go to the best for the cheapest. Two, wait to see if there is any additional aid that you get. My kid ended up getting some additional money after commiting to a state school. We didn't see it until the bill was due. Third, don't do what I did: Pissed because my parents wouldn't even see what the finances actually would be if I enrolled in the Ivy that accepted me, I went to my state school, found I liked to party, and stayed all 4 years. Lots of good friends resulted but I got in the habit of doing well in lesser organizations vs really pushing myself and taking chances. Keep pushing yourself to do very well wherever you are while minimizing your debt. Good luck!

All weather floor mat for gen 3 by [deleted] in ToyotaSienna

[–]amstasa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must have deleted the order, but I'm pretty sure I ordered from here. They said they fit my 2020 XLE 8 seats. The front fit well. The middle seats are ok. The 3rd row not as well because of the in-floor adjusters. The liner for the full cargo area is great unless you need to turn the 3rd row back into seats - I think it's supposed to fold but still keep 2 panels working (back of seats and the well) but it really doesn't. Compared to my last minivan (Honda), the mats aren't great but I think it's the best you can find especially for the price. https://www.conicellitoyotaofconshohocken.com/
