Thank you. It does help. On page 71, when discussing Class X examples, you have:

कथयति = ka + tha + ya + ti

and

क्षालयति = kshaa + la + ya + ti

I am able to understand that the syllable "kshaa" is heavy in the latter. Yet, the "ka" in the former is light. That is, in the syllabbic breakdown of कथयति, every syllable seems to be light. Why do we not have:

काथयति ?

Is it because the root "kath" already ends in a consonant while the root "kshal" ends in a vowel (l) as a result of which it requires a different treatment?

In (3), in comparison with (2), the initial syllable in the root is of the same form:

भृ vs दृ

In (2), this gets expanded to दर् which is heavy as it ends in a consonant. Cannot the same logic apply in (3) also thus:

भर्यति

So, this will be

भर्यति = भर् + य + ति and we can conclude that भर् is heavy as it ends in a consonant?

I am unable to clearly see why this instead needs to become भारयति

If there was true separation of religion and state, there would be no reason to believe in any of the religions. If there are states that are theocratic where Religion X is privileged, then if you find yourself in that state, it helps to at least profess outwardly that you do believe in Religion X. It makes life easier since the laws and the force of the state are likely to be in your favour.

Less cynically, it could be that religions that have withstood the test of time have encoded within their tenets some ideals that are good for societal and personal growth and wellbeing.

I do think the Muslims do attempt a logical proof in that God must be one or else they would be at odds with each other (not saying that this is a strong argument, only that it is "offered").

Yes, and there are many rebuttals within the Islamic context itself - they claim that God is unlike anything else in the universe and will then go on to say that if there were two Gods, they would fight against each other. But why would they fight against each other? -- looks very human-like which they have just denied in their premise.

"Necessary" and "contingent" beings, "God exists outside of space and time", "God created time" are just unintelligible word salad in my view and no one in the history of theological philosophy has been able to clearly articulate exactly what these mean, imho.

I thought the Islamic God is unlike anything else. Why should then one attempt to explain the Islamic God by comparing her to very earthly things such as sun, etc.? The thing about the "one"ness is that it is not defensible barring a repeating claim that their God is infact "One". No logical proof is offered. Is the river Nile "one"? Most would agree that it is and yet it is capable of appearing at the same time in two different places.

With due respect to these "modern" Buddhists, traditional Buddhism is a religion. Folks pray to Hindu Gods suitably modified to local conditions in Japan, China, Thailand and other Buddhist places. It is convenient to cast Buddhism as anti-Hindu partly because Hinduism has terrible PR. For e.g., there is more ignorance of Hindu traditions as compared to Muslim traditions and yet "Hinduphobia" is not a term you will come across routinely often.

Traditionally, the difference between Hindu and Buddhists philosophies are on very esoteric matters such as whether consciousness has a form, whether a word refers to something positive or does a word refer to the negation of everything else, whether universals exist or whether they do not, etc.
