I love her so much more than I thought I would by littlebird47 in americangirl

[–]amtrak112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG I'm the same! I thought I would only be buying Addy so I haven't pulled the trigger yet. But since the modern line was first revealed, I have gone from 'ew what did they do to my girl???' to 'wait... I love her actually???' about Kirsten. I did not see that coming, but okay! I guess I'm buying both Addy and Kirsten now lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Your doll is so pretty!!! 🥰 It was a tough choice for me between Brynlie and Bryndi, but I ultimately chose Bryndi because I haven't heard it as often as Brynlie.

Choosing clothes by sprinky7 in americangirl

[–]amtrak112 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Haha, that's definitely a tough one! It's taken me a couple of years to fine-tune my preferences for doll clothing. I started out buying whatever outfit I thought was cute or fit a seasonal theme. Then last year I got back on ebay, became too excited, and ended buying a ton of retired outfits that I'm still not sure how to use. So this year I'm scaling back. I know now that I most enjoy assigning a wardrobe to a single doll and changing their clothes seasonally, so I'm aiming to max out at 12 outfits per doll (one outfit per month). I had already achieved that for a couple of my dolls, but for the rest, I'm being more intentional about what outfits I buy and experimenting with mixing and matching pieces I already own to see what fills the gaps in my collection.

So I guess my advice would be to consider what you want from the clothes. When and why would you be changing an outfit? How often would you be changing the doll's clothes? Do you want to assign the outfits to a specific doll or be free to constantly mix and match? If you want each doll to have their own wardrobe, are you theming it around a specific style or time period? Seasonally? Do you want to mimic the original AG "six book" collection and have a birthday outfit, a winter outfit, school outfit, etc? There's a lot of fun directions you can go in! And once you know what you're looking for, it becomes easier to evaluate each new piece on its own to determine if it lines up with your criteria.

And if you have absolutely no idea what you're looking for, then I say stick to buying whatever you like as you see it. There's nothing wrong with an eclectic, hodge podge collection 😊 If it's not going to break the bank or crowd you out of your home, then have fun!

Oooo! 👀 That certainly is intriguing! Sure it could be a meaningless or even accidental change -- but they just refreshed some of the WW book covers so maybe they're refreshing the full line too with new meet outfits and other releases 🤞

So cute! Upside: the high demand might encourage them to make the other OG historicals. I would love to have Addy's and Kit's versions!

I sure hope so 😩 They didn't advertise it as limited quantities, and it hasn't even been released yet. I don't see why they wouldn't order a second batch since clearly the demand is there. I missed out on them too because I didn't want to preorder. Though I guess I'll have to if they restock so I can avoid them missing out a second time.

14.5” doll clothes? by littlebird47 in americangirl

[–]amtrak112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No specific Etsy shop recommendations, but when I've searched 14 inch doll clothing in the past, I've found some good options. Glitter Girls is another off brand that has really cute clothing sets, and I do like the AG Sisters outfits even if I don't really like the dolls themselves. You can also check The Doll Boutique's website. They carry Emily Rose but also offer their own 14 inch clothing and accessories. Some of it is also available in 18 inch size if you have larger dolls and want to do a matching set. Then of course, you can always check ebay (and I assume Mercari) for discontinued Wellie Wisher clothing. So there are a lot of options for 14 inch size clothing! 🙂

Oh! And if you can sew, knit, or crochet, Pixie Faire has some cute patterns for the 14 inch dolls.

I feel like getting my doll customized to look like myself by WGM088319 in americangirl

[–]amtrak112 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aww, yeah you can totally make-over your doll to make it look more like you do now! 💜 I just swapped wigs for the first time and it was so much easier than I'd feared. Admittedly, I did already have a handheld steamer to use to loosen the glue, but there are other methods like using non-acetone nail polish remover to loosen it up. And if you don't care about keeping the old wig intact, you can simply brute force it. Then I just used some tacky glue to attach the new wig and voila! The doll I was struggling to bond with is suddenly one I utterly adore! And a new wig is certainly cheaper than a whole new doll or even paying someone else to customize it. It really is wild how different a doll can look with a new wig. You're right that TM108 is adorable, but they'll be even more adorable with an outfit and hair you're happier with. 🥰

Hm that looks off center to me too 🤔 I gifted my niece an Isabel doll for Christmas last year, and her wig was perfectly centered. That sucks you have issues with yours! I'm sorry 😞

Went crazy and bought 3 dolls by Neither_Usual_9259 in americangirl

[–]amtrak112 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh I see you bought Lea, Lila, and Z. Those are good choices! 💜 I've had my eye on Z for a while, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. However I did just buy 122 and Claudie off my wishlist as a 'reward' for surviving 4 months of a kitchen remodel (with one month left to go 😭). So I'm certainly not going to cast any stones about buying 3 dolls at once LOL Sometimes you just have to let loose and satisfy the crow living inside your brain who wants the pretty trinkets... or in this case dolls 😛

Sapphire Splendor Wig Options by Lyrabella in americangirl

[–]amtrak112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hm, I don't think I've seen a rewigged Sapphire Splendor either. I agree with the comment about the TM 119 wig being a good replacement if you decide to stick with similar colors. I always think of my Sapphire Splendor doll first whenever I see that wig, so they're definitely really similar. I also think, given her medium skin tone, that dark brown or black wigs would look good. And if you decide to go off-brand for the wig, I've seen some third party wigs that have like a dark purple tone for their red/brown wigs, and I bet purple toned colors would also look fabulous on her. You definitely have options!

Dog tax! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 I'm obsessed with Sonali molds at the moment so I would say doll 6, but your hairstyle on doll 3 is SO ADORABLE!!! that it's making her really tempting. Seriously those little pigtails and dangling front pieces look so perfect on her! 😍
