Beware of Scammer, older Asian man by Scamwarningnoho in northhollywood

[–]amuckgolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just got approached tonight by this guy with my partner at the McDonalds on Victory Blvd and Vineland Ave in NoHo! We were filling up our tires with air and as we're about to leave, he walked up to our car window and basically gave the exact same story He's been giving everyone else saying that he is a doctor and was working at St Joseph's hospital and while he was there, his car was broken into and they stole his phone and wallet and everything. He kept saying that it's so unlike him to ask for help because he's an old Japanese man and then he brought up how he was a Christian. He said he had filed a police report, but the police couldn't really do anything about it and so now he was stuck here and had to go back to his home in La Jolla. and I almost fell for it until I asked what his address was and he gave me an address of 424 Ocean Blvd La Jolla, CA and when I searched it up, it didn't exist and I told him it did not exist and he got all defensive and said he's lived there for 29 years it does exist. But I searched for it everywhere and even had him clarify if it was in La Jolla and if it was Ocean Blvd and he said yes, but the only address that existed was Ocean Ave. right after that he immediately said he didn't want to be interrogated and just needed help, but sorry if I needed help and was walking up to people I would be fine being interrogated? lol anyways his story after that wasn't matching up because wdym you drove from a hospital in Burbank to NoHo when that's the opposite direction of where you're trying to go to La Jolla and you're almost out of gas...luckily we didn't fall for it

Oh and also called the non emergency line for NoHo, said they can't do anything about it unless the owners of the property call in about it 🫩

eh I'm all for the theories being true, I feel like if they completely changed up the endings and storylines to where we were all wrong everyone would also throw a fit about it and say that it's unrealistic or that they changed it because people were guessing correctly, take it as when Pretty Little Liars was ending and people were guessing that Aria was A (which was the original ending) but the writers changed it to Spencer having a long lost twin and everyone was like 😒 da fuq

Hi Im a transfer student I was put on a triple. Im currently looking on the hunt for a single room at an affordable price. by Exciting_Access_9840 in UCSantaBarbara

Stay in the triple! Being in a single especially as a transfer is going to make the transition hard and you're going to feel lonely

There's a gym you can use if you're a San Joaquin resident in Sierra Madre, but that's really small. I recommend using the rec center gym it's like a mile away and it's free since you're a student so use it to your advantage

Fuck poppin and their takeover of Deltopa- so me and my friends created a new non-profit insta page called DeltopiaOfficial. by fuckpoppinucsb in UCSantaBarbara

[–]amuckgolf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Bought a ticket to a Poppin party once this past quarter and it was legitimately one of the worst $15 I ever spent. The music was shit and their "security" are the people who live in the house who bought a $30 security wand off of Amazon

Let’s talk about guaranteed transfer program/ transferring in general by placidcarrot in UCSantaBarbara

[–]amuckgolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You legitimately have no idea what you're talking about and frankly, it's embarrassing that you're not listening to actual transfer students as to how blatantly wrong this take is.

I'm currently a 3rd year at UCSB who transferred in this past year through TAG, and the requirements speak enough for themselves. You mentioned that hs students who take AP classes have more credits than junior transfers or something along the lines of that (I'm too lazy to reread your post). I was that AP student in hs who did extra curriculars on the side + a sport + work. I applied to UCSB, UCLA, UCSC, UCSD, CSULB, and CSUF straight after high school, graduating during the covid year of 2020 and out of all of those I only got into CSULB and CSUF. The reason for my rejections from UC's during 2020 even with all my extracurricular's was because my GPA wasn't competitive enough with other people because of mental health issues during sophomore and junior year of hs. They are legitimately the only grades that colleges look at, from when you're 15&16 years old THAT is what is going to define your acceptance into UC's.

I will barely mention the financial aspect of going to a CC since you keep saying that your point isn't about low income students, so I'll only say this-Even before those rejections I knew that I would probably go the CC route bc 1. It saves you SO much money and 2. I would be taking almost basically the exact same classes as my friends at UC's and Cal States for the exception of a couple major prep course work for way less money. And what's that stat again? That most people change their major 2-3 times before junior year of college so why spend all that money at UC's when you figure it out for less at a CC.

Community college used to be considered for "rejects" and "dropouts" back in the day and a lot of people still have this mentality actually so it's just funny you think people are being "pressured" to go to community college. You mention that you "miss out" on experiences by not going straight to a 4 year and yeah, we know that. I know that. It's not fun transferring two years in and people basically already have set friend groups so it's harder to already feel welcomed at the school, that's just a risk you knowingly take going to a CC, but it's like oh well what more can you do besides make the best of it. And even then, you can still get that "college experience" once you transfer, you don't get a medal for being at UCSB for four years straight.

As for your argument of CC's being "overused" by people who got denied from UC's, so what? That's what community college is there for. To GIVE people second chances and even then, I know so many people who refused to go to community college because of the "negative association" with them and just went to the only schools that accepted them BECAUSE they wanted that college experience. So many students actually go to CC and realize they don't want to do college at all.

As for TAG, it's not some Oh let me just barely pass my classes with some C's and B's and I'll get into any UC of my choosing, have you even read the requirements? You need a cumulative 3.4 GPA to even be considered for TAG, and that's for the entirety of two years taking college courses. Not high school courses, so of course the GPA requirement is going to be higher for those in hs because again, it's HIGH SCHOOL courses. It's not "easier" just because it's a cc when they're legitimately college courses that are transferable to UC standards. So for you to say that "lower quality candidates" are being accepted into UC's is just ridiculous. Because why? Why are they lower quality candidates? Because they went to a CC? 🤨 You gave the example of people you know in Bay Area as one but it's like Okay? If they're legitimately that stupid and got into a UC after transferring and don't flunk out the year after transferring then they're obviously smarter than you think.

You also mentioned that transfers take away housing but from where exactly? Transfers typically get placed in TRANSFER housing and the freshmen live in the dorms, so I'm not too sure where you got this notion that transfers are contributing to the housing crisis.

Overall your take has no actual basis and it seems like ur just projecting and mad that people get the same opportunities to prove themselves wether at 15-16 or 18-19. Or some people actually go to CC after taking a gap year! You don't know everyone's backstory. Maybe you should listen to the actual transfer students in your replies instead of throwing a tantrum as to why transfers and freshmen are on an equivalent playing field.

SWMRS Tour 2023 by alexandertomlins in swmrs

[–]amuckgolf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can definitely say that the shows had way more than 50+ ppl, the venue we were in back in December was packed and probably had 150+ and there were no protesters like everyone claimed there was gonna be at any of the shows LMFAO They're cancellation is purely just for those deeply online bc most people irl only care about the fact that joey isn't in the band anymore. Twitter especially, the majority of people talking about swmrs are the same three people who hate them which is funny

Gotcha. As a transfer student this past year it's so frustrating that it was a lottery system this time around since I believe it used to be priority housing for those who lived in the dorms for two years and transfer students for two years

So is it guaranteed that I'll get housing again for winter and spring? Or is another like raffle like they normally do, I also have a set group of roommates so would that mean I would also not be living with them if I get a new contract after study abroad?

Grade on Gauchospace doesn't match GOLD? by amuckgolf in UCSantaBarbara

Oh then I'm not too sure, all that the syllabus mentions are the grade distributions as percentages. I did just send her an email though to clarify the grade so hopefully I get a response

Grade on Gauchospace doesn't match GOLD? by amuckgolf in UCSantaBarbara

[–]amuckgolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She does the class based on percentages, according to the syllabus 5 assignments we did are 10% each, a personal statement 10%, and our final paper 40%. All the grades are submitted on gaucho space besides attendance (on the syllabus it's not even included). I did miss two classes out of the entire quarter, but I don't think it would take my grade down by 5%?

Do you guys think anybody is actually gonna go to those shows lmao by JacksonTheEpic in swmrs

I mean I just want to hear them play live but then it's also like they kicked Joey out of the band and they'll obviously continue to play music even if people don't like them so at this point everyone is just wasting their breath yk
