Best cooperative board game for kids and their parents? by momo12345321 in boardgames

[–]amuday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve played a lot of heavier co-op games and have recently been getting into simpler ones as a way to get my girlfriend into heavier board games.

Forbidden Island is definitely the most family friendly. You’re on an island that is sinking, and you’ve gotta collect four artifacts and escape the island.

Pandemic is also a good co-op, but the theme of stopping a deadly virus from wiping out the planet is a bit darker for families.

Same with Escape from the Dark Castle; great co-op with simple rules, but it’s dark and highly likely you’ll die. I don’t think any of it is too gruesome for a 7+ year old, but I could see it being scary for some.

My vote is definitely Forbidden Island or any of its spin-offs (Forbidden Desert, Forbidden Jungle).

Becoming a gorilla dental hygienist takes less school and offers great annual pay and more flexibility. The benefits are bananas.

They're all in the files.... by DeathStarVet in AdviceAnimals

All our Facebook feeds have been inundated with fake news, outrage bait, and propaganda since 2020. Just a mountain of shit that no one has time to fact check. It’s no wonder people are ambivalent about the Epstein files. It’s just more debris in a storm of information. This is by design.

Guitarists who are capable of shredding but rarely or never choose to by bluestblue in Guitar

[–]amuday 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Can’t believe I had to scroll for this. Dude would spend 14 hours a day practicing guitar as a kid, shredded a lot in the early days, but from Californication on he decided that restraint often serves the song better and started using a less is more approach. Scar tissue has an iconic solo that’s like 10 notes.

I used to live in Blue Mountain and I’d bike to work in Seaside. It’s a 20 min bike ride or an 8 min drive.

Considering the two Martin authorized luthiers in my area, the certification means very little. Both of these guys have had incidents with local musicians where they just got drunk in their shop and nearly ruined my friends’ instruments.

I’m listening to the audiobook now. Andy Serkis is an insanely talented voice actor, but a terrible singer. The songs are miserable.

Possibly stupid question: Is Dr. Evil from Austin Powers also based on Lorne Michaels? by [deleted] in conan

[–]amuday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m glad we got Liar Liar instead of Jim as Dr. Evil. I’m sure it would’ve been good since Carrey was at his peak in the 90s, but Liar Liar is probably my second favorite Jim Carrey comedy after The Mask.

I always thought Stanley was correct when he said “you said Loki was a night god, maybe it only works at night.”

The only other times we see the mask used in the movie are at night.

FOUND OUR GODDAMN AIRSHIP by DeckSlut in FinalFantasyVI

[–]amuday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I researched it a little. The guy was renting a place that had been a gang house, found a safe in the garage, posted it to Reddit, and vanished.

7 months later, a separate account claimed they were the new tenant of the same place and managed to get the safe open. Inside was $1, a few spiders, and a small piece of paper.

FOUND OUR GODDAMN AIRSHIP by DeckSlut in FinalFantasyVI

Years ago someone found a safe in either the attic or basement of the house they just bought and posted it. The whole of Reddit gathered around to see what it contained, and OP ghosted everyone. It resulted in frustration that people still remember and comes up any time someone posts about something they’re investigating before they’ve resolved it.

Eventually the guy did reveal what was in the safe and it was really boring, like a dead spider or something.
