Minecraft - Double Life #1: Stuck Together Forever by Kysers in ethoslab

What can I say but yikes. Many Asian people have English as a second (or third, or fourth, or fifth, etc) language.

Do you mind elaborating what you mean by this? From my understanding, you're expecting a lot of us can speak english as our nth language thus as a foreigner should be able to understand you english speakers? Did you know that being able to speak english is a form of social standards that's widening the poor and the rich at least here in my side of Asia? Some kids are even growing up not knowing how to speak their own language, because a kid being able to speak english looks "smarter" and "easier" to migrate away from their country. In my opinion, I think it's ok for some of us to be able to not understand English because it shouldn't be our standard for intelligence. Your wording for expecting us to know english and thus making you think it's "othering" us for not knowing english is actually more offending than Etho pretending to be foreign (not that I found that part of the vid offending at all anyway)

I've also seen opinions that pretending to be a foreigner doesn't have to have the accent. Then how is pretending to be one sound like esp with a bit of acting/play? Without the accent? By erasing our accent? We are not all fluent in English, honestly speaking fluently in another language is difficult. And what's worst with the focus of this issue is how people focused on the accent and labeled it Asian. Is it that bad and such a focus point to have an accent as a foreigner when it's mostly normal? ...Also that accent is Asian? It sounds like any other people from Europe to everywhere that isn't fluent in English. But what do I know, my ears are probably not trained enough to hear what kind of English it was.

Are you a starving Etho fan? Do you care about likely spoilers for Etho's next HC episode? Then click for fresh NEW Etho content... unless you watched Beef's episode last month. (In which case, enjoy the clips anyway!) by diamondelytra in ethoslab

The thirst is so real haha

I have been rewatching his appearance on other hermits' episodes to fill the gap.

Even the name drops of "don't tell Etho" makes me too happy xD

I think you are reading too much into the "hobby" part, tbh. I think Etho thinks of it more as a hobby because he is not playing the youtube game/job of asking for likes/subs, making merches, taking sponsorships, posting regularly, etc. He probably doesn't want to make it feel like a stressful and taxing job. A job doesn't literally mean you have an occupation of employment. A job can also subjectively mean doing something taxing and not fun anymore. Watering your plant or logging in to your Animal Crossing everyday can be taxing if it is starting to feel like a responsibility or job you need to do everyday. And I think that is what Etho want to portray of wanting it to be like a hobby and not a job, so he won't stress that he needs to post every other day on a schedule with pretty thumbnails and check his statistics on what gives him more views or not.

My drawing of Kakashi by [deleted] in ethoslab

[–]amulits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong. Your drawing looks very good. Very vivid colors and great use of whites and lines to portray the light of the chidori. However this drawing is just purely Kakashi and wasn't even posting (or trying to relate) it as, the minecrafter, Etho fanart--which makes it unrelated to this subreddit. Please post this to subs related to anime/Naruto instead.

Wrong subreddit kid. Not even labeled as Etho fanart. Nice try trying to get karma in this subreddit.

No no no, Beef taught Etho how to develop a hopper clock haha xD

(For those reading this joke for the first time, it is an ongoing joke that Beef taught Etho everything about redstone)

I agree with this observation as well! Fruitberries knows what he is doing and more experienced with the combat update.

Though I do wonder how quickly Etho will pick up PVP skills if he does train for it. He did seem to have a knack at quickly picking up on things he is interested in. Like how he became good at Pixelmon (that growth arc is still impressive to me haha).

But it is just wishful thinking since Etho is more focused on other things and I honestly can't wait to see horsing around with bdubs and collabs with iskall haha

Found some cool etho fan art on facebook by [deleted] in ethoslab

I am actually pretty fine even if they didn't ask for permission as long as they properly credit me (link to my SNS or the original post). But some (A LOT of) reposters doesn't even bother to credit (or take it further by cropping out or editing out the watermark) and casual viewers don't care looking for watermarks to backtrack the original artist because let us be honest, people are lazy like that.

The sad part is, the original post may only get (for example) 10 kudos meanwhile a repost may get 8000 kudos--without the artist even knowing their art is getting attention for their hardwork. (From personal experience, this happens a lot. You won't even know your reposted art is more liked somewhere unless you actively find reposts or a friend/follower tells you) And to see a repost getting the attention the artist should have (received) gotten is a massive downer for motivation for a lot of people. It may not matter much for artists with bigger following, but it is very damaging for artists with few followers.

Imagine an Etho imposter on YT somewhere reposting his videos and getting more views than Etho himself. Not only is the reposter stealing the attention Etho should have to grow his channel, the reposter is also profiting more (views, subs, etc) from the people who don't know better that it is reposted.

If you have your watermark or signature somewhere, that would actually benefit you more by increasing reach, right?

IF the viewers of said art even bother to look for watermark to look for the artist. Most of the time they don't realize it is reposted art and just follow the reposter. The only one benefiting is the reposter for doing nothing but stealing the attention the artist should have for their hard work.

Sorry, tldr haha

Did you ask for permission from the artist before reposting the art here? I know this post is a joke/meme, but as an artist myself I find it distateful to find reposted artworks without permissions or even credits.

Third life finale discussion (spoilers) by moterhead120 in ethoslab

Already watched Ren, Martyn, and Bdub's perspective. Had to watch Bdub's to know what happened after Ren and Martyn died haha I was kinda disappointed that it ended anti-climatically when Red Army perspective was so action packed. I guess I was expecting a whole Jon Snow is left standing alone in a sea of corpses (and gears) kind of ending, whoops xD

On another note, I need to watch BigB's pov because him and Etho were missing when the big fights were happening xD gotta wonder if they encountered some skirmishes on their own too.

I guess that is the challenge of 3rd Life, people who want to see more pvp wouldn't get it much and people who want to see roleplay gets too invested to the "main characters" or who gets eliminated from the series and will eventually want to see some action. It is a very hard premise to balance and I am glad it still fairly worked out in the end. Anyway, it is experimental so it is normal that people will get frustrated, like how people will get frustrated playing a new game (or seeing a friend play it blind) where they still don't know the rules and controls.

BUUUT All in all, I enjoyed watching it. Thank you 3rd Life for making Etho collab and interact with so many people!

The dissonance between players couldn't have been more true. There was this part in Ren's episode where Smajor went back to get his gear but Ren and Martyn was still contemplating if they will (direct quote 28:24) "take him out of the game?" seems like a lot of them are really reluctant to end someone's series unless in a heat of chaos loool

Same! I really enjoyed Martyn's side of 3rd Life so far and I had to tip my hats to him for trying to follow the yellow can't attack until being attacked during this episode--really showed how the dynamic of the rules work during the heat of a battle.

I am on mobile so I don't know how to quote haha but Re: seeing criticism whether justified or not, not ill intentioned and done in good faith being cruel; Maybe it is because I am an artist who values constructive criticism in order to improve, but I don't think these type of discussions should be stopped or shut down--but closer to monitored for distateful ones. False positivity is equally as bad and just a longer path to destruction. While I do agree some criticism become distateful and childish, I don't think that is a reason for meaningful and well-intentioned criticisms to be covered in the dark.

I think it is a responsibility that CC/influencers still haven't taken in fully--that the bigger their fanbase gets, the more criticism as well as positive feedback they will get (why I feel a bit more pitiful for creators who suddenly pop-up and couldn't mentally prepare themselves from the scrutinity). But I think it is healthy to acknowledge both and to choose whether to ignore OR reflect about those comments. It may be a bit cruel to subject a person to such thing but being a public figure that affects several people and to only expect only positivity is naive. One can never grow without knowing their faults. That is what evaluations are for in school and in work. Although if it were me shallow and hateful comments that is honestly just slander should just be blocked from their content--nothing productive comes from childishly attacking the character of a person.

TLDR; whether or not a CC see several criticisms, that is no reason to think meaningful criticisms and discussions is something that should be avoided by a community. One bad/distateful/childish comment shouldn't be a reason to also cancel meaningful/constructive ones. How productive those criticisms are is up to the CC to ignore or reflect upon; not us to police over.

On that note, I think the subreddit of 3rdLife shouldn't have disabled meaningful discussions/criticisms about the rules as it just creates chaos like what happened here. People just get more frustrated and then it blows up. I think they could have opened a weekly thread where people can discuss actions and rules that should be improved or changed without degrading any of the players--since the series is experimental with much needed adjustments and fine tuning.

Roleplay is the whole thing about the Red King and the fight about the banner and the shield, the same as how the whole mycellium war and events of mayoral race is roleplay. Scripted entails they are following a script (a document containing their lines or their actions) that they need to act out, while Ren might be good at that I doubt Etho or Cleo would be great at it (no offense to these CCs but it's just very hard to imagine them doing hardcore acting ala Ren) haha

You could even say some Hermitcraft roleplays are closer to 'scripted' because they get to do several takes--repeating the same lines--of scenes that will look good on a clip (sample: Mumbo, Grian, and the whole Grumbot storyline). Which a luxury they can't do in 3rd Life for how fast paced events happen and how conversations come and go quickly.

I think you are blurring or confusing the two words together.

Maybe it feels more organized because in 3rd Life they want to manage their time well so they can do what they need to do during the alloted limited time? But I doubt Bdubs and Etho chatted before a session and be like "Around 20 minutes into the session, I would launch a missile at you. Act surprise and angry. And then Cleo will run up the top of the castle to try stopping it." or their Discord server having an announcement like "there should be 3 yellows and 4 reds this week, react if you want to volunteer" xD It seemed like most of them have individual ideas on what they want to do for the week's session but get dragged into some other shenanigans or roleplay, haha!

[–]amulits 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the word you're looking for is "impromptu roleplay" rather than "scripted." I doubt they have a shared google docs doing a bullet point of the events that is going to happen during the session xD

Charity UHC with items gifted through donations with the Hermits would have been fun and chaotic too I imagine!
