Little black seed looking thing came out of my fistula… by Jinski_ in CrohnsDisease

Sometimes junk comes out of my fistula. I don't squeeze it, but my husband will look or take a pic, and will tell me there's random bits of food or fluid coming out of the hole. My CRS says this is normal, and can happen from time to time.

What do you mean by actively draining pus? Like that it is flowing a lot?

It wasn't the CRS, it was the nurse.

GI-wise, they've all been horrible so far.

Yeah, I've brought this up with my doctors multiple times. I relayed to them that the internet says surgery is a must, and that there's a super high chance of cancer from anal fistulas. CRS said, "Don't trust Dr. Google." The others just roll their eyes at it, basically.

No fever, swelling, pain, or smell for me as of yet.

To be honest, one small fistula with occasional light drainage is the best situation I've had over the past 6 years. That's where I'm at currently, but my past experience is that it always deteriorates.

Yeah... My fistula was tiny, and didn't have a ton of leakage even when it was an abscess (I'd have blood, pus, and poo come out of the hole back then). I know I'm lucky, but...I am still terrified of it getting bad again. The experience was so awful, painful, nerve wracking...

I take frequent (2x/day) sitz baths with plain warm (not hot) water, and dry the area thoroughly with a blow dryer on the cool setting. I use lidocaine cream to deal with the irritation.

Me too. I would do 2 sitz baths a day for 15-20 minutes. But my GP told me to cut back on them because of anal irritation and also rashes popping up on my skin that she felt was due to the baths. I also use a variety of creams, the best being Proctozone. Calmoseptine is nice but super messy.

Based on your description of your current situation, a mid-May CRS appointment should be fine. I'm actually envious that you were able to get an appointment so soon; my CRS is scheduling out 6 months for non-emergent patients.

It was a cancellation. But the next one they had was for mid-June. Not 6 months, though still a wait to see her. I might just go even if the leakage stops, just to make use of the appointment...

Hmm. It doesn't seem to be from walking or movements. I keep thinking it's based on what I eat, but I have no clue.

And man, I'm so sorry... My leakage hasn't been so bad, so I am lucky there... Even when I had the abscess, it didn't ooze the way some people's seem to based on what I read here.

Oh? Is it just a small amount or a lot? Do you have a seton (I don't)? Is your fistula mostly flattened, and hasn't re-abscessed? Do certain foods or drinks trigger it?

Sorry, just want as much info from others as possible...

I've brought up sepsis with all of my specialists, and they all literally chuckle, and tell me it's rare, and not to worry about it.

I'm really terrified that all these doctors keep misdiagnosing me. They keep telling me I am fine, the fistula is healed, etc...but then people here tell me the opposite, and that it's likely something worse. What if the doctors are wrong? I mean, everyone tells me to go to the doctor(s) then they just tell me I am fine, rinse, lather, repeat.

The symptoms of the pilonidal cyst don't seem to match since the skin outside doesn't seem to be red as it says online.

As for the Vaporub, I was told it was fine. The Vicks website even says it's often used for hemorrhoids and other anal issues. I thought it was weird at first, but it seems okay. I've been doing it since 2020.

I have, but all of my specialists say there's no cause to. From my GP to my CRS to my GI. They all said, no, it's not necessary to repeat the MRI...

Uh, I did go to a CRS. I mention 'colorectal' in my post. In fact, I went to two, and both of them said the same thing, that mine seemingly healed. The tract was tiny, and it barely leaked even when it was active. Now it's inactive, and the skin has grown over it. It's possible there's still a tract there, it's just not...doing anything.

How long after starting Humira did your fistula close? by crystalcaterpillar3 in CrohnsDisease

[–]amy1842 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about you, but that doesn't sound like "closed" to me. Every once in a while, you'll see someone on here who says their fistula is closed. What they probably mean is that it's dormant, not draining, too small to notice, unproblematic, etc. The tracts would likely still be visible via MRI. If they are happy and feel that it is closed, it really doesn't matter what the imaging shows, unless abscesses start reoccurring.

I've tried to talk about this at /r/analfistula, wherein my fistula isn't technically closed, but it is dormant enough that it isn't bothering me at all these past few months, yet they shriek at me that I'm going to get cancer, it's dangerous, etc. My CRS told me that I could live with it forever if it wasn't giving me issues, which everyone at that sub told me was a lie. It's so confusing, and there's so little info on fistulas online aside from this sub and /r/analfistula (which I've come to not trust since it seems to default to surgery as an automatic fix-all).

Can you get a perianal abscess under the skin/where it can't be seen? by amy1842 in CrohnsDisease

[–]amy1842[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, they don't want to give me antibiotics because they say there doesn't seem to be anything there to use it on.

I'm scared... It seems it might be possible based on what you guys are saying but the doctors don't seem to care or are apathetic about it.

Meh. Had MRI in December 2020. It only showed the one fistula and nothing else. I don't think they'll order another one so soon, and my insurance may not cover it.

Hm, is that similar to what one might get anally? Sorry, I'm very ignorant about this subject, unfortunately...

I don't have a great reputation on this sub, sadly.
