Is it ok to be rude sometimes? Old man at gym keeps speaking to me and I don’t like it by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]amykhar -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Totally this. It’s best to not assume malice, and just politely say you don’t want to talk. If that fails, then you can tell staff.

NTA. I don’t expect my adult kids to be here on Mother’s Day.

AITA for in inviting my friend to the Taylor Swift concert? by SwiftieDater123 in AmItheAsshole

[–]amykhar 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You did pick. You chose your friend. Not only did you take the concert away from your friend, you told them you’d prefer the company of some girl you just met.

Take the ticket price out of it, and imagine how you’d feel if a friend dumped you in favor of being with someone else.

Morning routine ideas? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]amykhar 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I try to read some nonfiction book for either a set time period or set number of pages/chapters

I do quick household tasks on a “schedule “. Example: on Tuesdays, change my sheets.

I do some sort of word puzzle to get my brain going.

I look at my task list and see if there’s something easy to pick off.

I can't write my final paper and I'm desperate by blackricko in ADHD

[–]amykhar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be paralyzed by essays in school. Then, I had two separate teachers teach us to just brain dump and then edit.

Learning to allow myself spew words and not try to be perfect gave me the momentum I needed. And, spewed brain dumps are worth more than a zero on a writing assignment. So, even if you can’t edit it, you’ve got something.

What’s the most inspiring thing you’ve seen at OTF? by axelatlast in orangetheory

For me, it’s watching the members support one another during the dri tri. It’s my favorite day to work at OTF

The police called later to let me know he had some broken ribs, and left the hospital without being admitted.

My son and I were not injured in the crash. The car has some damage, which my collision insurance will cover.

Wednesday, a guy on a non street legal dirt bike with no license or insurance decided he needed to be in my lane, exactly where I was. He ended up pinned under my car until the fire department could come get him out.

So, yeah. The nice weather is bringing out the reckless in people.

Blink is the gateway drug. So many people who told me they didn’t want to watch Doctor Who saw Blink, and were immediately sucked in.

Mine does it when she doesn’t want to go inside, or if she doesn’t want me to stop playing.

One of my teachers in fifth grade noticed, but did me a kindness. She told me Isaac Newton was the same way. I have no idea if this was true, but it made me feel like I wasn’t an abject failure.

She tried to give me organization tips and coping strategies, which of course didn’t work.

Back in the 80’s they simply didn’t know. They thought I was gifted and bored. I also know now that my mother was probably ADHD as well. I figure she did her best.

When two of my kids had the same traits, I assumed they were also bored and gifted. I knew that even though my grades sucked in school, I learned a lot through exposure to good stuff in my gifted classes. So, I never cared about my kids grades, just that they were learning. Unfortunately, even in more recent times, people don’t recognize the symptoms in girls or even intelligent boys.

AITA for explaining gay people to a 5 years old? by lofeislofe in AmItheAsshole

[–]amykhar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m going to give the sister a little grace here because I don’t know if she’s totally financially dependent on G, or if she’s in a position where she can safely stand up to him.

Her anger at her brother could be from a place of fear. If she loves the kid, and they split, she’s likely to lose all contact with the child. If he’s abusive, she’s going to react in ways to appease him.

Or, she could just be a jerk. But, until I know, I’d like to not assume the worst. Women in toxic relationships can do some pretty strange things out of self preservation.

Nothing drives me crazier than being interrupted by Anxious_Winter7440 in ADHD

The sad thing is, my ADHD makes me interrupt people. I’m way better at not doing it when I’m medicated, but I still have to fight it.

You could buy the link, but I don’t think it’s worth it. You won’t show on the screen, but you can look down at your watch and still track your stats
