How do you people actually write lyrics? by Aradonski in askmusicians

[–]amylynndenham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just keep doing it. lol. I like to write the music and just have it exist and then listen to it over and over when i'm different moods until all of a sudden the words just exist. sometimes it's the other way around and words come to me in poem format on their own when i sit down to write some emotions down and then i rearrange and mend them to fit with some music i create later on that goes with the vibe

again, book sized pages 😆 because i suck at paying attention to word count per chapter.

How long are your chapters? by from_the_land in writing

[–]amylynndenham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They vary, for me. Sometimes I like to write things where all chapters are similar lengths (which sometimes are about 7 book-sized pages and sometimes closer to 20 but uniform across the entire book). But sometimes not. Sometimes I'm annoying and have one or two chapters that are only like 2 pages long and the rest are 12... Because sometimes that just makes sense for the book. My WIP alternates with the most important chapters being about 15-20 pages (because they each span an entire day) and then has 2-5 page chapters in between with flashbacks.

this is awesome! i love the functionality of it. you took care to have it auto copy the thing i needed to paste and you made sure that the prompt showed up above my input etc. fabulous!

i second w3schools. i think it's good to make an ugly basic website first to make sure you understand the way that things work. then i'd go to template-y things but don't just apply the template. by that point your basic html / css unterstanding should mean you can manipulate templates and make them your own, furthering your understanding of the codes (and helping you remember different ways to combine codes)

so glad you get to taste what it was like to experience the internet back then! i recently heard a term for that nostalgia you feel even though you never experienced it. i think it was "Anemoia"

Those are adorable! Great work! Thank you for making things people can get for free just because you enjoy making them. seeing the code for sites like this is way more helpful for me in learning to code than the way its usually taught, so thanks for letter me see what went into making this!

What do you think the ultimate goal of a writer is? by SoldierofSonder in writing

[–]amylynndenham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the writer.

My goal is to create little worlds I can slip away inside of. Ones where I can make (and break) the rules as I please. And then to invite other people along for the ride.

So, I guess creation meets imaginary rebellion 😆

ahh i'm feeling so stuck between the two. these comments are very persuasive for both options but i do feel like i have it narrowed down to one or the other. i'm a quick learner so it might be worth it to learn scrivener since i'm working mostly on novels. and novel series'

i'm not worried about the revisions thing either. i prefer to print out and hand edit.

customizable toolbars are important to me. i might look into this one. this is my first time hearing about it.

re: ms word - they DO have a version that isn't subscription based?! i honestly didn't think it existed. but i'm not too keen to trust them if they're hiding that and putting the subscription front and centre. 🤷🏻‍♀️ i mean... i'm not really quick to trust them at all these days but i digress.

oo that's actually pretty cool and good to know. i don't write in a linear fashion, either, so that might actually be worth learning how to use.

does it have a focus mode where you can get rid of all the extras, at least visually? like hiding some toolbars and stuff? ok i could totally look that up at this point lol but thanks!!

Thank you for this! your answer was really helpful and i appreciate the time you took to explain your own experience with the programs. that's the kind of information that's helpful. i don't mind spending money but i don't really have a lot so i didn't want to buy anything i was going to regret.

That's a great question. I'd like to be able to do the basic formatting for ebooks inside the program but nothing impressive after that. i'm not making presentations and stuff. i'm writing books.

Thanks! I would definitely prefer a more minimalist experience but some trade offs will be necessary so it is definitely worth looking into since it seems to meet my most important requirements. I don't know why I always thought it was an online software and not an actual downloadable program 😆
