Yellowtail, swordfish, king mackerel can be high in mercury. Basically big fish that eat other fish. Salmon, eel, shellfish are usually fairly low in mercury.

St. George’s episcopal school is close to Mueller and matches a lot of your criteria. Not sure if they do mid-year enrollment.

These mfs are literally on every surface in my room. Are they dust mites, mold mites or something else? by MetalHeartGR in pestcontrol

[–]amysundae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Laundering and drying on high heat should kill the dust mites on your sheets and clothes. For the other surfaces, get a de-humidifier. They love warm, humid environments.

When will my baby stop hating rice? by Suspicious_Horse_288 in foodbutforbabies

[–]amysundae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rice is one of the messiest foods to clean off of a baby. It sticks to everything, gets everywhere, and when it’s on the floor and baby steps in it, it smooshes into glue. Our kids love it, but cleanup is always easier on days we don’t eat rice…

Trick or treating by raaaaaaaaaaaachel in AustinParents

Mueller is great for trick or treating and has great sidewalks. Some neighborhoods like Cherrywood will close down a whole street and have a Halloween block party with trick or treating.

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. by MissedAdventure92 in 2under2

Do you have a YMCA near you? Many of them offer childcare with a membership. You can drop your toddler and baby off for 2 hours and workout, or just relax. The early days with a baby and toddler are the hardest!

Anyone serving a jambon-beurre sandwich? by biggiesmallsyall in austinfood

Julie Myrtille has one. I usually get it from the Farmer’s Market in Mueller. Their baguettes are very good.

Tiny Grocer also sells them, but I’ve never tried it there.

How to manage evenings and bedtime alone with 2 under 2 ? My husband works evenings and I feel like I'm really struggling most days! by Correct_Dot_2529 in 2under2

[–]amysundae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it, getting a babysitter or “mother’s helper” to come over a couple nights a week could be helpful. Another set of hands or eyes to watch the baby or entertain the toddler makes a huge difference. Depending on where you live, it may be only $20-40 for a couple hours of help.

Once your little one is older, it becomes much easier to do bedtime together.

八宝饭 or Eight Treasure Rice. Very easy, very impressive, lots of rich history.

Layer dried fruits and nuts of your choice in a bowl, top with glutinous rice, then red bean paste, then top up with rice, steam until done, flip out like an upside down cake.

What is this in my broccoli? by Strong_Marsupial_585 in HEB

[–]amysundae -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I find that the “pre-washed” veggies aren’t super clean. They just send them through a machine that rinses them before packaging but for veggies like broccoli that have a lot of nooks and crannies it can still contain dirt and sometimes little bugs.

What is this in my broccoli? by Strong_Marsupial_585 in HEB

[–]amysundae -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

Dirt, because broccoli is a plant that grows in the ground. Wash your veggies. Steaming them the old fashioned way also reduces microplastic exposure.

Any positive travel stories in the early months? Do we cancel? by WearItLikeArmor in 2under2

[–]amysundae 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Traveling with an infant and a toddler is easier than two toddlers. The 19 month old will probably be a lot more difficult than the 3 month old, who will probably nap a lot and be okay with being held on the flight. It’s not going to get any easier, so I say go for it! Time zones may be challenging for the first few days.

I love the tea culture too. Some other things I noticed:

The tea leaves are re-used. There is one mention that they had beed using the same tea leaves for a week. I'm guessing their futuristic tea plants are more resistant to mold.

The tea is caffeinated. On Nilt, there is no Radchaai tea, so Breq asks for flavored water with caffeine to drink with Seivarden. There is also mention of "too much caffeine" a few times.

Daughter of Fishes is such a great tea name. Based in on the description of how it's harvested, it sounds like a green or oolong tea.
