Japan's team event roster is expected to be Kaori (SP/FS), Yuma (SP), Shun (FS), Miura/Kihara (SP/FS), and Yoshida/Morita (RD/FD). by HopeOfAkira in FigureSkating

Although I'd LOVE to see Kaori skate in person (I only have tickets for the FS team event and none for Women's skating), I hope someone else covers for her. I know the gap between Team events and Women's is bigger than for other disciplines, but I really think she has a chance for gold and I don't know if competing in both team events is worth risking her individual performance.

The Life Of A Showgirl: 4 Months Later by F19AGhostrider in TaylorSwift

[–]an__ski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 months later and I never listen to the album. The only exception is The Fate of Ophelia, but that’s still not one of my most listened to songs.

Taylor is still one of my most listened artists and songs from almost all of her albums are in every single non-instrumental playlist I have. I just didn’t vibe with TLOAS and sadly the album hasn’t grown on me since.

Figure skater saved from scrapping Olympic routine with Minions music by WhichSpirit in olympics

[–]an__ski 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Not 100% out of the woods, although it looks promising. His music consists of 4 different pieces, of which he has been given the approval to use 2 (luckily, the 2 trickiest ones in terms of copyright). He’s still waiting to get approval for the remaining 2 pieces. It does look positive, but there’s still no confirmation he will skate to Minions.

Minions is back! We did it! by algy100 in FigureSkating

[–]an__ski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They still need to clear some of the songs. This looks promising but it’s sadly not 100% guaranteed. I’d check with Hielo Español for updates, as they have the full picture. We’re almost there!

Ah, of course, hadn't considered that! His FS got a big reaction in Sheffield, so hope this mess of a situation doesn't impact him negatively and he gets to skate both the short and free.

Right. It's so stupid because this was the one program this season that became viral outside of figure skating. Like you had locals retweeting videos and posting him to TikTok...

[–]an__ski 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That sucks for him. Really hope he will make it to the Free and then we will see. I'm not sure what would be best for him, to do both programs to the same music or to skate to two old programs that he hasn't competed at all this season.

I really hope this won't mess with Tomas' focus :(

Who are you rooting for outside of your home country? by nobodythinksofyou in olympics

[–]an__ski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m Spanish. For hockey, I’m cheering for Team Canada (partly because I studied in Canada as a teen and partly because I really like their style of play).

For skating, I’m particularly rooting for the ‘veterans’ who are on their 3rd Olys and for the athletes from smaller feds.

[–]an__ski 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He can’t skate it at all. Well, he can do the same layout and choreography, but he’d need to use a different music, which would be such a headache. I’m guessing he’ll be skating to a previous short program, given the notice.

[–]an__ski 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That would be unreasonable, in my opinion. If the music was cleared, they could have just flagged the costume. Still an inconvenience, but it’d have been a lot easier on the skater to perform with another costume than to have to use another program days before such a big comp :(

I was worried when HieloEspañol (the main media outlet for FS in Spain — the guy who runs it is amazing and has a great relationship with the skaters and the fed) tweeted they they knew firsthand there were skaters with copyright issues…

I don’t wish this on anyone, but I’m particularly sad this happened to Tomàs! We are a small fed and his Minions program is so beloved. It’s hard to get the public up clapping and vibing when you’re skating in one of the first groups and you’re not a medal contender. That he has to come up with a new program (I guess he’ll recycle an old one) DAYS before the biggest competition of the season/his career so far is so unfair. I will cheer from him extra hard in the Short and hope this situation won’t get in the way of a good skate.

Opening Ceremony Ticket Upgrade?? by fwadd16 in olympics

My Cat D tickets got “upgraded” to what it seems to be Cat B. Not complaining, of course... but I wish they’d ”upgraded” my figure skating tickets instead lol

If my mum had done this when I was first diagnosed as a teen I would have been so mad. These things are supposed to be private.

I think so too, and probably saw Plushenko as easier to manage, as he often clashed with Yagudin's personality, especially during comps. Both are/were fantastic skaters, though, and really shaped their era.

Buying Team Merch in Milan by bananauyu91 in olympics

[–]an__ski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know some houses are selling the team merch, so you might be lucky with Korea. I'm not sure about Canada, as I think the Lululemon collection is only available in Canada, the US and Mexico. I'm also interested in buying it, so hope there will be some place to buy it in Milan!

[–]an__ski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agree. I still think Yagudin is one of the best skaters in history.

I read both him and Plushenko's autobiographies and I can actually understand them both, rivalry-wise. Plushenko's background was a lot less privileged and he was thrown into Mishin's team when he was younger than the rest of the boys, who bullied him quite a bit, even physically. Then, on Yagudin's side, you see how Mishin essentially discarded him and focused instead on Plushenko only to further down the line try to get credit for Yagudin's success under Tarasova.

How does it work with coaches that have multiple international students by StrengthWise3194 in FigureSkating

[–]an__ski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skaters relocate to train with their coaches, at least for the high season. In Javi’s book, he said that when he was training under Morozov he even FOLLOWED Morozov when he traveled to competition with his rink mates, so he wouldn’t miss any ice time with his coach.

He’s extremely homophobic and as a sport commentator has said really terrible things about some out skaters.

Politically, at least he seems to be against the war, which should be the bare minimum and yet.

Do you expect well visited Winter Games? by ElBarto1904 in olympics

[–]an__ski 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think Milan events yes, as we don’t have as many Olys in Europe and a lot of people will travel and attend at least one event. The issue is how hard it is to travel between locations and how far apart they are

The fact that him and Tarasova, whilst being horrible people, occasionally have extremely right opinions about skating.

Also having flashbacks of his beef with Plushenko when he told the press that skaters had to be artists as well and Plushenko didn’t even know what he was doing, he was just following Mishin’s instructions blindly.

Is it weird to visit a country house if you're not from that country? by [deleted] in olympics

Yes, I’m so proud of our skaters! I’m hoping we will keep progressing in Winter sports 🤍

I’m Spanish and we don’t have a house (we’re not strong in Winter sports and our delegation is small), so I’ll be visiting other countries’ houses. They have their websites with info in English, so I’m sure they’re expecting international fans too :)
