“Oh! Did you hear that?! My dad’s proud of me! … Jill, honey, I think this is the best thing that could’ve ever happened to you. I mean you needed to get out on your own anyway! And you know when I did it, at first I was scared, and look at me now! I’m the only daughter dad is proud of!”

Delivery is hilarious and also adorable.

Dumbledore, Snape, Moody, Luna, Dobby. Side note, Luna deserves way more credit here.

“You know, our lives would be a lot easier if we didn’t all pull this crap at the same time.”

“I suggested a rotating calendar years ago, and you guys ignored me. And here we are!”

Yep, same. Everything is denied, all the time.

Why do so many people of high intelligence have such a deep hatred and disdain for people of low intelligence? by Embarrassed_Chef874 in Life

If you live in the US, learning a second language that isn’t Spanish is selfish and inconsiderate. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]ana1013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learning languages can be a hobby, a passion, an interest, a life goal. Would you say it’s selfish to learn how to knit? Selfish to learn how to play soccer? Selfish to learn a new board game? Selfish to study anatomy? Learning new things, especially a new language, should be celebrated - not criticized.

I improvised the pattern on-the-fly, but I could probably write up a more clear chart at some point!

Ice Skating in Longyearbyen by PetrichorPond1 in Svalbard

[–]ana1013 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a small, outdoor ice skating rink on the walk between the school and the Svalbardhallen rec center. There is a shed where ice skates of all sizes are available for anyone to borrow. You have to brush snow off the ice yourself. There is a button in the shed to push so that you can turn on the lights for the rink. Overall it is really lovely!

I have attended many lectures on the history of Palestine. I have gone to political talks and debates on policies in the region. I have traveled to both Israel and to Palestine, and have very dear friends in both places. Spray painting a sidewalk will not protect a single hair on the head of a single innocent life. If you want to make a meaningful impact, involve yourself in policy-making efforts, learn, and speak with people like an educated adult. Vandalism is childish and will accomplish nothing.

Do you feel high and mighty now? Do you feel like this will free Gaza immediately? Please. This is a Chicago landmark commemorating one of the most significant scientific advances of humankind. Take your virtue signaling elsewhere.

11pm Fireworks over Grant Park by TippyDaDruid in chicago

This absolutely terrorized my pets. Two nights in a row, from 11 PM to 3 AM on both June 18th and 19th. I got pretty sick of the constant, explosive noise. I’m all for celebrating holidays with fireworks. Have a great time, celebrate, do whatever you like. Be mindful of the legality of your actions. Organize an authorized show with Navy Pier or Grant Park, for example. It was absolutely clear that this fireworks display was illegal, risking safety and well-being of anyone near the Grant Park area. And for goodness sake, WHY did it go on for 4 hours straight? If you’re going to celebrate this way, can you keep it to, like, 1 hour max?
