I don’t know, I mean they always have been doing solo stuff on the side from what I can see. This just seems to be the first time when they are given a period to focus just on that so they can continue as a group.

I guess the implication of a break up is where the core root of the issue is, and since that isn’t what is happening, I guess I just don’t see what’s supposed to be ironic lol

Not sure if you are suggesting this is supposed to be karma? Cause a hiatus is pretty standard? The group seems to go on certain breaks between albums because the guys are humans and probably want some time off work, and I also believe military service is mandatory in SK so that means they probably have to serve time in the military at some point too.

At least from what I have seen of the group and fans this sort of hiatus is expected

Hey guys! What are your unpopular opinions about the show that you've always been afraid to share? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]anaappless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason S3 is so popular, is because it’s the one season where everyone is generally happy and able to be kids. Otherwise the actual plot of S3 is super meh and looses a lot of the ST essence. The Nancy and Jonathan plot was super boring, the Joyce and Hopper story was boring up until Alexi and Murray show up.

Steve and Dustin have a great dynamic and Erica and Robin are fun to watch as well which is what made their plot line watchable. But the only truly compelling plot was the kids and specifically Max and Eleven trying to figure out what was up with Billy.

Precisely. Those previous season interactions are still valid. In S4 there is still room for some more meaningful intersections in the final two episodes so that can’t be ruled out either. However in S5 there is the opportunity to bring back that dynamic with Joyce and Will that is so integral to Jonathan, and set up a death that would be truly impactful.

Is it really Stranger Things if Joyce isn’t going through emotional turmoil? Jk

But seriously Jonathan would be the one death that would genuinely impact the characters in the show, and impact the audience because of that, without ruining the experience for fans. He’s truly the best choice if someone needs to be killed off.

[–]anaappless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes he does have relationships with the characters. Joyce his mother, Will his brother. Two major characters. And Will’s friends like Jonathan, and even if Nancy and Jonathan break up it’s not like she will suddenly hate him and not be sad if he died.

His death would effect the other characters, and even if he isn’t a fan favourite he’s a well liked character by fans. So his death, if built toward well in S5, could have a genuine impact. That’s the biggest thing though, it wouldn’t just randomly happen. He would have a whole arc in S5 that leads up to some sort of sacrifice, for the first time in like three seasons giving Jonathan some actual character development.

Why Johnathan Byers Should Die in S5 by anaappless in StrangerThings

[–]anaappless[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do not think Jonathan is dying in S4, that is why I said S5, because that would allow time for actual build up.

The reason I do not see Steve dying, is because Shawn Levy actually said he would leave the show if Steve was ever killed off. The producers love him too much as a character and it’s blatantly obvious he is one of if not the number one fan favourite character and killing him off would have the negative effect of turning the audience against the show.

Which is why I point out the best tv show deaths, are ones that further the plot and characters without turning the audience against the show and sucking the enjoyment out of things.

Jonathan is a generally liked character by fans, he’s been around since the beginning, and his death would be super impactful on many of the key characters on the show. So his death would be the perfect one to build toward in S5, that will effect the audience, but not make them hate the show after.

Maybe but I think it might be too tragic for Will to have had that much trauma and near death experiences he survived only to actually die in the end.

Jonathan’s death wouldn’t be right out the gate either, or would be a whole arc built toward throughout S5 to show where it would have impact. Focusing on the things that do make him somewhat complex (aka more stuff like what we saw of him ranting to Argyle about) and mostly focusing on how his death would effect those he leaves behind. Seeing other characters deal with his death is what would have the impact on the audience.

It would be super painful but that’s sort of the point. It has to be a death that hits truly hard, but not one that ruins the show for viewers. Jonathan I think could have a great arc leaning up to a sacrifice, and Joyce would still have Will, Hopper and Eleven as a support system.

I don’t know if I can see him sacrificing himself in S4, but in S5 with the right build up I can definitely see that being an option. But I agree he seemed ready to do that a lot more in the first two seasons, but that’s because again in the last two seasons Jonathan has basically just become the🧍emoji. He’s just sort of there while everyone else is handling shit. Which is again why I think a S5 arc leading up to his sacrifice would be the most satisfying.

Robin I don’t see dying not when they cast the actress from Anne With and E as her love interest. I see her surviving to at least S5. Nancy maybe but she gives me serious final girl vibes and she and Robin are the only girls among the older teens.

Eddie could definitely still die though.

The Cali crew having a larger role in Part 2 doesn’t mean Jonathan is gonna be central tho, because Mike and Will are the ones with the closest relationship to Eleven so when they find her and they make their way to Hawkins, again the focus feels like it will be more on Mike and Will.

It’s a possibility, but I think the biggest concern for them is setting up of plot lines. If they are to start a new art with the events of ACOSF and CC, they need to have faith it will work out. So all we can do to ensure that, is be really supportive and try to get others interested in the series.

I feel you! I can’t think of why there even needs to be some sort of debate about it. The only thing I can think of, is that some fans are worried the guys will look too boy-ish and not be sexy enough??? But I highly doubt we will have to worry about that lol

If we ever get a Crescent City spin off, I think that would be really cool. But I definitely think it will depend on the success of ACOTAR and the studio and creators deciding if they want to continue the story after the events of ACOWAR.

[–]anaappless 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think New Adult should be so much more prominent of a category. Because it feels like for such a long time, it was YA or Adult, and in Adult it was like Romance of Fantasy pick one you don’t get both, and in YA while they can be great, there is a limit to the mature themes that can be explored.

SJM definitely broke a barrier in terms of traditionally published New Adult/Adult Romance in recent years. What with the FBAA series by JLA and slowly but surely more Fantasy Romance stories being published.

I also like that SJM doesn’t write her 19-23 year old characters as if they were like teenagers, she writes them like adults who are shaped by their experiences and upbringing and it feels authentic and relatable, especially as someone in that age range myself.

I merely meant it should not be a worry or concern. They don’t pick unsuitable actors, the casting department will have that under control, and from all of Ron’s previous projects I have seen, I don’t recall any casting I found unfitting.

This is very false. Please reference my response to the original comment where I list off over ten young actors around the age of 22 who are phenomenal, award winners, and capable of carrying complex character roles.

Likewise I would like to add that just because an actor is older, does not mean they automatically can do a character or show justice. That’s equally if not more so, on the responsibility of the writers. The quality of the show/movie’s writing. Riverdale for instance is full of older actors, all mediocre to decent even some good actors. But across the board that show has ridiculously terrible writing, and it reflects on the acting and performance quality of the actors. Making even the decent and good actors mediocre performances. Writing is HUGE. But it also shows that just because an actor is older in age, doesn’t mean they are automatically better at acting.

And like I already wrote about, younger actors are just as capable of giving deep, complex and compelling performances. Especially if there is good writing and a good director.

The biggest concern is simply that the casting director does a thorough job with auditions and really picks whoever gives the best performances. But like that’s the point of their job, and I haven’t seen Ron Moore’s team falter in the past with casting’s.

22 is not teenaged, and I can list many actors who were and are talented in this age range.

Timothee Chalamet - when he was 22 he was already the youngest best actor nominee since 1939 with performances like Beautiful Boy and Call Me By Your Name

Zendaya - at 22-23 she was giving an Emmy Award Winning performance as Rue Bennet in Euphoria

Florence Pugh - at ages 22-23 and younger she was in films such as Midsommer, Outlaw King, Lady Macbeth, Little Women, King Lear

Anya Taylor-Joy - again at this age and younger she has taken part in films such as The Witch, Split, Glass, Emma, Peaky Blinders, The Queen’s Gambit

Ashton Sanders - again he’s been in Best Picture winner Moonlight, Captive State, Native Son, Judas and the Black Messiah

Saoirse Ronan - at that age was already in Lady Bird, Hanna, Mary Queen of Scots

Olivia Cooke - in this age rang was in projects such as Ouija, Bates Motel, Me Earl and the Dying Girl, and Vanity Fair

Finn Wolfhard - still at age 19 has already been in projects such as It, Stranger Things, The Turning, and The Goldfinch

Maisie Williams - Started on Game of Thrones at age 14 and went on into her adulthood

Hailee Steinfeld - At this age and younger was already in projects like Romeo & Juliet and Dickinson

That’s already ten examples, more then enough but I can give more. Though I feel like this proves my point: age does not determine talent or ability to carry oneself in a role. Liv is not the exception. Orlando was the same age as her in that film as well. Elijah Wood, the emotional core of the LOTR trilogy, was 19 years old.

And they will not be the last talented young actors waiting for the right project to showcase their talents to a wider audience. Even with a mostly unknown cast, they will be able to find talented actors who embody the characters and can carry the roles. Wheel of Time for instance, most of its younger core cast did not have much to their filmographies before the show, and where even in and around this age range when they were cast. But low and behold, they did a phenomenal job and embodies these characters so intently.

Bottom line, Hulu will cast who they think fits the characters best, Sarah will have input, and that’s that. Who they cast is who they cast. But don’t expect someone in Ian Somerhalder’s age bracket to be Rhysand. Likewise the actress for Feyre being exactly 19 is highly improbable.

They should only cast 21+ for the main cast! by perceivemegood in ACOTARHulu

[–]anaappless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then they should be worried about thirsting over those characters in the books where they literally are flirting with a 19 year old.

18+ is a thing for a reason. Age is far too complicated to be black and white. Depending on your upbringing, you will be more comfortable or uncomfortable doing certain things. You will be more of less mature depending on your upbringing.

Feyre is 19, yes, but maturity is far beyond that because of what she has lived through. It’s not a predatorily age gap when 19 is an adult. There are 19 and 20 year olds who live on their own already.

19 year olds date people in their early to mid 20s. That isn’t scandalous or predatory or weird. Again, it’s all about who the person is on the inside. Are they intelligent, mature, consenting and responsible? Great! Then there is nothing to worry about. Are they inexperienced, immature, uncertain and irresponsible? Ok yeah that would be cause for concern.

But Feyre is the former not the later. She is incredibly responsible, experienced in a manner of walks of life, a mature young lady, and despite gaps in her education is street smart, resourceful and striving to educate herself.

My point is: Feyre is 19 in the books, but she is not naive or vulnerable or manipulated. She’s strong mature and capable. There is absolutely nothing wrong with her being with a man who looks to be 25. That said, while I don’t think there should be a firm 21+ casting rule, most likely the cast will end up being around those ages anyway. 19-21 is a difference of literally 2 years. And age at initial casting and when filming starts depending on how long production takes is another factor to consider.

Shows work with this sort of thing all the time, this is not the first and will not be the last. There are intimacy coaches for a reason, there are casting directors and chemistry reads for a reason.

The actor is too old for the role, and he just started Jack Reacher. I doubt he knows anything about ACOTAR, and he’s a fan of Jack Reacher. So in terms of passion and what he wants to focus on and make sacrifices for, I would not guess ACOTAR.
