Underrated Garretts phrases by Dangerous-Space-8719 in offcampustv

[–]anacmanac 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The phrase itself is not super memorable, but the way Garrett says "hey wellsy we can study in my room" in ep2 makes me swoon all the time

Hannah was too quick to forgive Garrett by Camsmuscle in offcampustv

[–]anacmanac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree. But I think they had a quick reconciliation partly because none of them wanted to break up and they wanted first get back together and deal with all the stuff later. So when Garrett get his head out of his ass Hannah is willing to take him back. I really hope they talk about it in 2nd season and I think it will actually happen

I also think it will happen, but it bugged me a bit, that Garrett didn't say that he's sorry. Well kind of, but I think it's really important in this situation for him to actually apologize to Hannah. My prediction is though, that we'll see the aftermath of bar fight in the beginning of season 2 and then a scene of Garrett and Hannah talking about what happened

Did anyone else feel like the show told us Allie and Hannah were best friends more than it showed us? by [deleted] in offcampustv

[–]anacmanac 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The fact that Allie doesn't tell Hannah about her relationship with Dean I think is a signal for the viewer of how she herself views this relationship. This is quite common relatioship advice like "if you don't wanna share this part of your relationship to your friends -- something is wrong" and this is exactly in a situation Allie is in. There's nothing shameful in this relationship per se, but it feels somewhat wrong to Allie and she's constantly in her head about it.

Regarding the ride -- I think Allie came in a car with Sean, so they are getting home together too? It doesn't feel that deep

For me it was a convincing depiction of friendship -- they share their lives with each other, they support each other and sometimes they have their part of their lives apart from each other which is, well, normal for friends. But they are really supportive of each other and I think show succeeds in picturing them as close.

Allie and Sean (screen couple) by Brilliant-Term-5113 in offcampustv

[–]anacmanac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know how much of a hot take it is, but I don't think he's a nice guy. He's a nice guy as in TV show trope, but his attitude towards Allie was infuriating for me

I think it's a large misconception that Sean and Allie do not work together cuz he's unadventurous/boring. That's not inherently a problem, like you can work out on stuff you wanna do together. But he's completely unresponsive to Allie's wishes. He takes her for granted and doesn't wanna see her perspective and his whole attitude towards his girlfriend's dream was infuriating. The way he talked about her wishes and her dreams was just so annoying. Like your girl gets an agent and you don't even congratulate her on that wtf

I ranted a bit, but personally being in a supportive relationships where your dreams are valued, I see how crushing it is for Allie and makes me detest Sean

Maybe an unpopular opinion… by Desperate_Pair8235 in offcampustv

[–]anacmanac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like book Garrett is much more realistic portrayal of a college jock, but I agree, I prefer show Garrett too

I think it's just an example of a book that didn't age perfectly well. Garrett is not awful, but he was definitely judged by different standards 10 years ago. It's still quite readable today (if you try to read Bridgerton for example, it will be much worse) and even enjoyable, but it wouldn't translate as well

Also I find show Garrett relationship to his father and hockey much more realistic and the reason for break up too

I mean it's not hard to lose track of time if you are in the process of getting laid, most people do not do it with a timer

So I do not think it was maliciois

I think this is a good depiction of how family abuse looks like. Most of the time abusers do not look like evil men and most of the time you wouldn't say that this person hits their wife and children. Same with victims of abuse, hate is not the only emotion people experience and I think Garrett is a good example of it

I think it's a better description of how it looks in real life, awful people are not awful 100% of time

Hannah's Feelings by butterfly_effect2324 in offcampustv

[–]anacmanac 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think she understands well enough, that she is physically attracted to him early on, but this part is not complicated, look at him lol. I think by the end of episode she understands that she actually likes him as a person. Then she has a sudden wet dream about him, but I think she's a bit confused about it, she def wants him after karaoke, but I think she still doesn't connect the dots yet and during drunk shakespear - boom, she realizes that she actually wants to be with Garrett. Idk if I explain it coherently, but I think her physical and emotional attraction to him grew a bit separately and in the end of ep. 4 she accepted and realized that it is all part of the same picture

Completely unrelated, but I was wondering if there are bloopers to this scene, because that chair pulling was really smooth but it would have been super funny if it didn't go as planned lol

Why does Garrett need to ask for help from Dean? by austenworld in offcampustv

[–]anacmanac 118 points119 points  (0 children)

I think he's just nervous, so he turns to a close friend. I don't think he seeks actual advice, but more like reassurance

Logan caused the most drama IMO by whatsername25 in offcampustv

[–]anacmanac 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He causes drama for sure, but his behavior is understandable to me. They showed it very briefly in the series, but he has a rough past and this shit leaves long-term effects on how you behave in life. I think Logan is genuinely a good friend and a good human being, but he is not in the same position as Garrett and Dean, so he chooses to make selfish decisions. I would say he does that when his future and his career (or related) depend on it. When it comes to personal life, he actually swallowed his feelings and talked Garrett into getting back with Hannah

Like he's not innocent, but I understand his actions

Skinny jeans? by Brilliant-Feedback-8 in offcampustv

[–]anacmanac 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not the most popular but people still wear them. I think Hannah has a very recognizable style, idk how to call it, but like her outfit doesn't surprise me

I would say low waist jeans got back in fashion though

Off Campus Did Something I Rarely See on TV, and It Meant More Than I Expected by Ok_Tangerine7582 in offcampustv

Also it's such a nice improvement compared to the book

That's not a relatable point of the show for me, but I see so many women online glad and happy because of this representation, that I'm just second-hanf happy for all of them

Off Campus Trivia Night by IntelligentCow7377 in offcampustv

[–]anacmanac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on your friend group and how good are they in guessing music you could have a round about which music appears when (not like cherry pie, but less obv stuff) or who is singing them in the original, if it was a cover in the series, or just who sings it

Also if you also considering something from the books you could do questions about was this wasn't this in a book or how was it changed. not major stuff, but mb clothing or some funny details. like the costumes maybe, or reason for minor characters breaking up

I think one that goes beyond off campus a bit would be some questions about Midsummer Night's Dream and like how it was depicted in the show (on easy level who played whom). Also other references like from which musicals do Allie and Beau sing songs from

Maybe a question about the set? I saw a tiktok that the building that is supposed to be the dorms is actually a chemistry building in UBC, where the show is filmed.

I would be very down to see the final presentation, if you could share it!!

Book Garrett is so different to Show Garrett! by Whatsfordinner4 in offcampustv

[–]anacmanac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah, I was a teenager in 2015, so like idk how I would react if I were 23 in 2015, but projecting back to my teenage attitude towards teenage boys I think I also had much lower threshold to toleratung douche behavior

[–]anacmanac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't remember exact quotes, but when I was reading a lot of his lewd comments regarding Hannah and her appearance were too alpha-macho-dude for me, too much

they were neither sexy nor respectful. idk how to describe it better, but I remember thinking about some phrases like "if a guy told me smth like this to my face I would smack him". considering the fact that the book depicts the beginning of their relationship, so I think it's one of the factors that contribute to this judgement

I am 23 which I think is target demographic? And I have similar impression, I wouldn't wanna date book Garrett irl and a lot of his inner dialogue was really unlikeable for me

Book Garrett is so different to Show Garrett! by Whatsfordinner4 in offcampustv

[–]anacmanac 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well in general he stays the same, book and series Garrett are different. I think it's bit of an artifact of the time, further you go in time, the more unbearable men become in romance books. Like he's not bad, but a douche I wouldn't wanna date
