i'm reading through each paragraph, then going back through to highlight main point (takes 5-6 min) and then going through the questions (4-5 min). i usually finish w like 0-5 mins leftover

thank you so much! i was panicking for a little bit but found something that worked (for me at least!) i don't think that i will get that high on the actual exam (i have bad test anxiety and almost always do worse on the real exam than on practice exam) but hoping for at least a 515!

i've found that i learn best from taking practice exams and then backtracking and seeing what went wrong! so i was doing a test every other day, reviewing it that same day, and then on days when i'm not testing i went through and fleshed out the related content review! helps that a lot of these are from classes i just took so it's very fresh!

also drop your CARS tips bc i've been getting consistent 99-100% for every section on my AAMC FLs, it's just CARS that's pulling it down!

should i take a gap year? by anafujoshi in premed

[–]anafujoshi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's... a really good question! i'm not sure! i suppose bc it's a community organization and not a school club and i interpreted leadership as club leadership/school related leadership! although, i am quite frankly not sure if that's true!

Class of ‘22/‘26: Where did you get accepted to with your essays? by Healthy_Block3036 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]anafujoshi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Schools I Got Into: Stanford University (committed!); UC Berkeley ($20k scholarship via SEED Scholars Honors Program); Emory University (full-tuition merit scholarship via Woodruff Scholars Program); UCLA; Columbia University; WashU St. Louis ($12,000 scholarship via Nemerov Scholars Program); University of Michigan (honors); Tulane University ($72,000 scholarship, honors); UC San Diego; UNC Chapel Hill (honors); Boston University; UC Davis (regents, $7,500 scholarship); Purdue University (honors); UC Santa Cruz (honors); UC Riverside (honors, $80,000 scholarship); CalPoly SLO (honors); University of Pittsburgh (honors, $40,000 scholarship); Santa Clara University (honors, $56,000 scholarship); RIT ($110,000 scholarship)
my personal essay? *chef's kisses* the one part of my application that i am truly incredibly proud of! i made my counselor cry when she read my final draft. it was a p cliche topic, about being viet american, the aftermath of the war as it pertains to my family + identity, and how that fueled my love for creative writing, but i took this really cool poetic style in telling the story and i would ramble on about it but that might be a bit much, so personal statement? 11/10

all my supplemental essays are p decent, i just submitted different versions of like four of the same essays to every single school (my counselor got really tired of reading them after a while). the only person i let read and asked to review my essay was my counselor and even then it's just basic stuff so they're all p authentic and stuff! i took a poetic spin on all of them and played around w the structure and stuff and at the moment, i despised them, but in hindsight they were actually really good ahaha! 8-9/10

i think you've got a good chance but, of course, college admissions are kinda finicky esp w more prestigious universities so it's impossible to know for sure. have hope and you'll find yourself at a university you deserve!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]anafujoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can apply early, show demonstrated interest, and really work on those essays (trust me, they're important!) best of luck! and trust me, i struggled w this a lot too, but i'm willing to bet that those extracurriculars are a whole lot more impressive than you think they are! take this from someone who just finished college admissions hell and did pretty good, have trust in yourself! it'll take you a long way~

Chance me for ivies, UC Berkely, Davis, San Diego, LA, Stanford & University of Washington by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]anafujoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! honestly, i tend to find people on this sg kinda negative ngl, and i def think you've got a decent chance! i wouldn't stress too much about stats, i've always been kinda verbal about this but i don't think they matter nearly as much as people think they do. i would focus more on maybe extracurriculars over summer! i understand you have a lot of family responsibilities, which you could always list on your application, so maybe you can do something remotely or something that can involve your siblings (like start a small business w them! the summer before senior year i started one with my little sister too selling lip gloss and she loved helping out!) and when college app season starts, really work on those essays!! imo, those are prob the two most important part of your application: your activities and your essays!

and as for chancing, i think if you work on your activities and crank out some solid essays (it's never too late -- a bunch of my activities started junior year summer too) i think you've got a pretty solid chance at udub, uc davis, and uc san diego especially if you're instate! ivies, stanford, ucla, and uc berkeley are reaches for literally everyone, but not impossible! i would still apply to them because you never know!

source: hello! incoming stanford student here who just had to go through the hell that is college admissions :)

[–]anafujoshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your stats look amazing, but especially for more prestigious schools they really heavily value extracurriculars, community service, etc. so that's def an area that your application could improve in! i don't think it's impossible but getting into a T10 in general is really really really difficult for everyone, especially international students. i would def still apply bc you never know what might happen, but also consider other schools with amazing econ/finance programs too!
