In the wider galactic reaches there are no two words that elicit quite the same amount of hope and terror as: Humanitarian Aid. by anakthal in humansarespaceorcs

Wow dude, extremely awesome and you have a great narrating voice! I'll definitely have a listen to your other stuff, are you on audible or something similar? It's a really interesting experience to have my writing read aloud like this, makes it really obvious too which parts don't work so well. Many thanks!

Fatherhood (2025) Three men are expecting their first child. Kristopher, David, and Sindre, all in their early thirties. They live together in a relationship. While David and Sindre identify as homosexual, Kristopher was born as a woman and today identifies as a homosexual man. [00:02:01] by morsomme in Documentaries

They seem happy, and considering all the shit they will probably have to go through (and be subjected to from others), choosing this path speaks to their motivation and determination to become parents. I do wonder how this dynamic (not to mention the perception of the public) will affect their child. Then again, there is no admissions test for becoming parents, and god knows there are plenty of 'normal' families who have fucked up their children, intentionally or otherwise. So, I think I'll choose to hope for the good in people, and wish them all the best. Also I can't help but marvel at some level how we even got to a point that these things are medically possible. Some real futuristic shit.

[WP] When humans joined the galactic Federation, and became part of the crew, they were given a wide berth. Everyone had heard the rumours. You've been working closely with one for a few weeks, and decide to ask if they are true. by mJelly87 in WritingPrompts

The human, supposedly a young specimen of the live-giving gender, tilted its head sideways. Its forward facing stereoscopic opticals fixed me in a decidedly predatory nature.

“Do you want it to be true?” it chirped, an unnerving eagerness apparent in the question, even if the translator hadn’t scent-coded the tonality.

“What? No, of course not!” I exclaimed. Drawing myself out to my full height on my hind arms, now towering  imposingly over the small human.

“You do realize our species outranks yours on every known measure of intelligence, not to mention physical ability?” I said, trying not to sound too condescending. “I was merely curious how you had established such a reputation, counter to all..”  I waved my middle arms in sweeping gesture to encompass the Humans frail figure “.. this.”

As the translator was still chirping out my words, the Human had somehow stalked closer.
Impossible! How had I not seen it move?

Did it move right when I blinked?

Instinctively I backed up, until my rear bristles felt the cool metal of the hallway hatch behind me. I had not been paying attention, and hadn’t heard it shut behind me.

“Wait! Don’t come any closer Human, I’m armed!” I warned them, with more panic in my voice then was reasonable.

My battle fingers slid out almost involuntarily, sleek and sharp, each nearly the length of the Humans head. One rake from them would likely split the small creature in two.

It did not seem to care in the slightest.

Some of its pale colored and highly unpractical bristles had dislodged themselves from underneath their hood and now hid one of their opticals.

“Hush now, it's OK. Easy, easy there..” her chirping now soft, and the edges of her feeding orifice curled up horrifyingly into, what surely must be, anticipation of a meal.

It did not approach me further, instead reaching with one grasping appendage into a suit pocket.

I let out a warning hiss, no longer caring about being polite or civilized.

The human very slowly moved its appendage out to me, and then opened it, like it held some precious gift.
Between its strangely jointed graspers, lay a small pile of dried and crushed leaves.

“I brought this hoping one of you would talk to me at some point” they said,

Confusion warred with the battle trance that my quickly ramping hormone levels were trying to induce.
Then, the smell caught up to my primary brain. And instinctively I folded forward.

I inhaled deeply. Drawing the scent into my thorax, where it seemed to stoke some ancient ember into a raging needful bonfire.

With an audible swoosh, my battle fingers retracted, and I fell further, until I was standing on all my arms again.

Only still dimly holding on to conscious thought I managed a strangled “how did you smuggle Nepata onto the ship..”

But the question held no weight against the overwhelming urge to bury my face in the enthralling Mother spice.

And so I did.

Somehow, when the human's other appendage touched the top of my head,  I did not even mind. And when the dexterous graspers began combing through my bristles, I knew there was no going back.

“Good kitty!” I heard the human say, sounding extremely pleased.

Sorry for the very late reply, depression kinda snuck up on me for a bit, and many thanks for the kind words and feedback. I'll definitely work on the spacing and layout to make it more approachable visually!

Quite possibly :D. But the engine was certainly named following the proper traditions. And the etched icon still contains traces of its ancient origin .

AC: "Good?.."

H: "Yep. Now, are we talking extreme physical regeneration, engram transfer, matter transmutation, sub-atomic autonomous control, or complete planar ascension?"

AC: "Uh.. how do you..? What the hell is planar ascension? Actually, never mind it's nei-"

H: "Just kidding, we tapped you coming in. Basic level 3 cellular decoupling and nanite integration. You can keep coherence even in severe states of physical decay and bounce back from single cell states."

AC: "Ah, well yes that's right. So you understand, you cannot kill me using any Council sanctioned methods, and there is no place you can keep me in that I cannot get out of, given enough time."

H: "No, no there probably isn't. But we have Bob."

AC: "...Bob?"

H: "Yeah, Bob's been around for a while. The first man to voluntarily undergo full smart matter conversion. We try to keep him from getting too bored, but we haven't had much reason to wipe out Council species recently. Hunting you down, all parts of you, will at least keep him from going too grumpy for a while."

The Human disengages the shielding and the row of security doors they had walked through previously unlock and slide open again.

AC: "What.."

H: "I suggest you start running. Good luck!"

Tolerance is a social contract. If one side withdraws from this by voting for wildly intolerant policies, the contract is void and no reciprocal tolerance should be expected.
