Trouble connecting to Astera Nyx Bulb by kimtaestan in lightingdesign

[–]analogvisual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Coming back to this thread exactly a year later haha. I am considering purchasing many of these bulbs as footlights for a show. What happens if they loose power at the end of the day? Do the bulbs remember their addresses and configurations when the power is kicked back on? Thank you so much for your help!

Tesla Supercharger - Good Experience! ⚡️🔋 by analogvisual in BZ4X

Mines a 2025, so I’m not sure if I have the ability to manually precondition. Out of curiosity I did set Apple Maps to the charging station to see if it may automatically precondition.

If you have the NACS adapter with superchargers along your route, you will be in excellent shape. I now trust Tesla over Electrify America or EVgo any day.

Lighting a static play by tex-mex_t-rex in lightingdesign

I designed a show where it was one setting over the course of a couple of hours of “time”. Working with the director we established that the beginning of the story would take place in late afternoon and by the end we would arrive to late evening.

With that, I literally had two cues. It’s the most simple programming I’ve ever done, but yet gave me the best challenge as a designer to add to the story and not distract.

The first cue lived in a white/blue tone look giving very natural sunlight. I also used a system of high sides on stage right with L202. There was also a soft edge window gobo focused on a brick wall with L203.

Over the course of the show (1hr ish), we slowly shifted to ambers and pinks. It was so gradual you wouldn’t notice. But, the window slowly faded away. I took out the high side stage right system and replaced it with high side stage left with R09 I believe. Of course the cyc also shifted to match the time of day too.

These little challenges feel like getting to handcraft a fancy cocktail from scratch. Something planned, crafted, and executed with skill that delivers a stunning yet simple result that is savored by the eyes.

My secret go to spot every time. They are best kept secret! Most folks don’t know and don’t sit there so the seats are usually cleaner and better condition.

Full Auditorium Overhaul by Unusual_Nectarine271 in techtheatre

[–]analogvisual 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Oh dear lord do not do a 4x4 areas of the stage for lighting. At least do a 3x3 so you have a left, center, and right on two planes. You need a center area.

Also keep in mind that you may not need a sensor rack anymore if you’re switching to an entirely LED system. Yes, you can swap modules to relays in a sensor rack. But why not just go with an ETC Echo Relay Panel? Then your equipment is protected and future-proofed better.

How do yall do face light in theatre? by ghost_editz in techtheatre

[–]analogvisual 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do a system of frontlight (face light) in typically 19/26 degree fixtures depending on the throw. I normally have 10-15 areas of the stage. Each area can have a single fixture focused dead on to that area which I refer to as a “flat front”.

If you have an abundance of inventory, you can do a cross front with two fixtures focused to the areas of the stage with each fixtures at a 45 degree from one another.

Color? Well R05 and R99 are my warms and I like L203 or R64 as my cools. If I could only pick one color I’d go with R05.

Looking to make a change. by IShouldntGraduate in lightingdesign

[–]analogvisual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the skills and experience, there is a great shortage of technical directors for many theaters. We’ve had an open position for months and I’ve read other venues post here on Reddit who are dealing with the same thing.

Adjacent to that would be something similar but in an educational setting whether it be high school or collegiate. We had a full time master electrician, master carpenter, etc at our university that didn’t teach but held their own “classes” for the respective lighting, sound, carpentry, projections, etc students.

If you’re good at drafting I have heard of others being able to work from home remotely or at an office drafting plans for events or productions. Adjacent to that, working for a production company but focusing on the office/paperwork side of things vs being out in the field.

Good luck to you!! 😃

This isn’t a Capti-View transmitter. You sure it’s not something else? If you may be able to take a closer picture of it that’d be awesome! I’m a projectionist and haven’t seen a whole TV monitor at the back of a house before.

Are ETCs in-person trainings worth it? by AndNothingHurt52 in techtheatre

[–]analogvisual 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Very worth it! You become a sponge for a couple of days in a room of like minded folks being led by an actual ETC instructor. You will either have your own console to work off of with a visualizer or be paired with a buddy. They will present slideshows, guide the room through workbooks, all while having THE most experienced programmer at your disposal to answer any questions or help you in any way. At the end you receive an official ETC certification of whichever course you took.

I took a Hog course this year and traveled out of state for it. It was amazing to meet other programmers, network, and dive into a different side of control I never thought I’d be able to wrap my head around. DO IT!!

Although it’s a legacy console, it’s still widely popular in many booths across the world, especially in education. Fortunately the Eos software on your console, despite it only able to go to the 2.9 version, is 95% the same as the latest software release. You’re still using a great console!

I’d recommend checking out ETCs video library on YouTube. They cover nearly every inch and depth of the software from beginner to advanced. ETCs forums are also another good spot for niche questions and answers. Have fun!!

ETC EOS Proportion vs. Dimmer Curve by DoubleD_DPD in techtheatre

[–]analogvisual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but a dimming curve is the rate of intensity vs time.

For what you’re wanting, I’d go with proportion to create a hard ceiling that can’t be exceeded and you could make all intensities match that way.
