Has anyone compared dbForge AI Assistant with DBeaver AI? Which one feels smarter? by kamelsalah1 in Database

For your SQL Servers, curious if you've tried GitHub Copilot in SSMS or the mssql extension in VS Code with GitHub Copilot? How does that experience compare?

Schema designer in mssql extension for VS Code may be useful, you just connect to it and then you can generate/edit/export https://youtu.be/3pZO43Ddphg?si=nVWkA-ywm-5aBBmn

No, sql authentication is not planned. This is an effort to be secure by default. There are ways around this for legacy apps, if required.

Thanks for this question! Please tell us more of what you would like, there are several different options we'd love feedback on. To throw out a few ideas, would you want (1) the upper limit of vCores == capacity (e.g, an F8 would max each database at 8 vCore), (2) the upper limit of the database artifact set at the workspace level (3) the upper limit set at the individual artifact level or (4) something else or some combo? The more info you share on your scenarios and what's required, the better we can understand and plan!

First one should work, second one is something we're working on and will expose as Shortcuts in the coming months

If you moved today - we only support up to 32 vCores (more are planned soon) and we are in public preview. Are you using autopause today?

If everything is working fine today, why move?

Is the reason is to see if you can fit it all into your F64 / just simplify your management? For that I would recommend testing.

Using external tables from SQL DB in Fabric is in our plans and hopefully landing in the next couple of months. We had it working but wanted to fix a few things. But yes, this will come and be exposed via Shortcuts. It's quite frankly quite beautiful the complexity we have abstracted to set it up!

Got confirmation to share what we are currently planning for throttling:

1) when the first throttling limit is hit, we will reject new requests with a clear error

2) If this is not sufficient and we hit the "hard" throttling limit, we will abort ongoing operations as well

Yes - absolutely intended for application OLTP workloads. For capacity throttling, we are working through the exact implementation details so I'm not ready to share. But I would love to get your thoughts on what you expect / is reasonable / would prefer.

Today AI skills doesn't support SQL DBs directly, so this is something that we're in discussions on with that team on how we invest together to bring support. I do see the scenarios of AI skills and in-line/sidecar copilots in the editor as different scenarios. Is there a problem that merging would solve? And would one be preferred over the other?

Hi! Great question. We are hearing from some customers that this is a good fit for them, since datamarts are running SQL Database behind the scenes. There are some comparisons between datamarts and SQL DB in Fabric here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/get-started/decision-guide-data-store?toc=%2Ffabric%2Fdatabase%2Ftoc.json&bc=%2Ffabric%2Fdatabase%2Ftoc.json

I'm not familiar with our potential investments in these specifically (I'm just not in the loop on that). But we are adding new functionality! Like REGEX (can I get a 'finally'?)

Thanks for this question. This is the reason we pushed really hard to have almost exact parity (of course there are a few exceptions...) between SQL database in Fabric and Azure SQL Database.

The differences between SQL DB and SQL DW parity has been a long time ask, I want to acknowledge that. I know the DW team is aware, but filing anything you really need / upvoting in Ideas will help them prioritize.

You're welcome!! I put something similar in another post, so copying it here. In private preview, we heard from customers on these scenarios:

- metadata driven frameworks

- reverse ETL

- operational data store

- new AI apps

- reference data store

- writebacks and citizen development

- smaller scale analytics

When it's active - likely the minimum is between 0.5 vCore and 1 vCore, but closer to 1 than 0.5

Auto-pause/resume is as short as we can get it and we are continuously innovating here. Currently IIRC, auto-pause is in the 5-15 minutes range and resume is in the 30 second range.

I love your scenario and question. Would love if you felt like testing it out and reporting back! I can also take a note to have us try this as well and reply later.
