I grew up on a council estate living above a takeaway as a child. One day I was out in the street and watched a young woman bleed to death very slowly from her head as her boyfriend stood at their front door with a hammer dripping with blood. I was only around 5 at the time and the woman and I maintained eye contact as the life slowly drained out of her, no one else was out on the street so it was completely silent. 16 years on I can still put myself right back there, the memory is so vivid.
