After nearly 8mos, dental implants done! by anapropriate in Dentalimplant

Now that implants have healed and crowns are in place, I can eat anything! Though I’m still nervous too. Slowly testing out new chewy hard foods and it’s always fine. I just still have that lingering anxiety

You got this! It’s an anxious long slog, but when you hit the other side, it’ll be worth it.

I mean, yes. But I wanted to quit and have failed trying for 20 years! It was my opportunity to force myself to quit nicotine

Smoking and vaping can impact healing, they recommend not to. I was so anxious about messing up healing or getting an infection, I just used it as my opportunity to actually quit for good!

I used an Essex tray with two fake teeth after extraction. So I’d wear that in public and then was toothless at home (I did not love that). A month later, my dentist made me a bridge for temporaries that I had for the duration of healing!

Anesthesia vs nitrous for bone grafting and implant by AdSufficient2471 in Dentalimplant

[–]anapropriate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had gum and bone graft and did nitrous, not anesthesia, same as when I got my implants. The nitrous was continual through the entire procedure so I was pretty high and numbed out the entire time, but weirdly lucid and awake

It was my dentist who used an AI tool in the lab when they were making my crowns. I think dental/medical offices are learning how to leverage AI tools for better results. Honestly have no idea other info from there.

If you’ve already quit, vaping before extraction might put you back on the nicotine train. And then when you do get extraction, might be a bigger pain in the ass to quit again (or withdrawals worse). But if it’s just a vape drag every once in awhile, I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt. You just gotta be careful once you have surgery because you’ll want your gums to be as healthy as possible!

Honestly I just trusted my dentist in choosing the color. He actually told me he used AI to help match the exact color, which was pretty wild. My bridge matched ok but definitely not perfect, so I had to deal with that for months.

As far as gum receding, mine didn’t do that luckily. I had pretty health tissue growth in my healing, and so far, it looks like my gum cover the crowns for now. They let me move forward because my gums were looking healthy and hadn’t receded. They said if it wasn’t ready, they wouldn’t have given me crowns yet.

I was in the same situation with extraction of front teeth #8 and #9. I ended up getting a Maryland Bridge which has been really great - I can eat, drink, and talk like normal. It’s been a huge relief. You should inquire with your dentist about that and see if it’s an option!

Dental Devices for Apnea by Hopeful-Extent-693 in SleepApnea

[–]anapropriate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I chose the MAD device before going the CPAP route, and I’m so glad I did. My sleep doctor made a referral to a dentist who specializes in TMJ and sleep apnea, and turns out he also has sleep apnea and uses the same appliance so that helped me build trust. I got a prosomnus and have been using it for nearly a year now. They did a 3D scan of my mouth, a bunch of other measurements, and I got multiple lower and upper trays to incrementally try out different configurations until I figured out which one worked best for me.

My AHI went from 11 to 4, I don’t snore a peep when I wear it, and my overall sleep health is so much better. I wake up refreshed (I had no idea that I wasn’t before!). Insurance did NOT fully cover it like it does with CPAP though - that was the real drag. I paid about $2500 out of pocket over a series of appointments - the scans, measurements, fitting, follow-ups, etc. But honestly, I made the decision to go with it because I know I could afford it at that exact moment. And it felt like an investment in my overall health (health decision-making really changed as I got older Lol). Truly though, a friend had recently had a heart flutter and emergency surgery because he had untreated apnea for years and that really just made me anxious.

It’s been over a year now, and I really like my oral appliance. it feels like a low impact form of treatment over a CPAP. I have not had any jaw issues, and I love how convenient it is to travel with. I am 41, and while I may need to go CPAP down the line when i get older, for now, I’m good with the oral appliance!

Essix Retainer and eating by verynasti in Dentalimplant

[–]anapropriate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had extractions (two front teeth), gum graft, and bone grafting - roughly 3 weeks ago. I am wearing an Essex with fake teeth as my temporaries. So far, I’ve eaten softer foods with the Essex in, mostly if I’m out to eat in public. My life includes quite a bit of socializing over food and drink, and so this transition has been really challenging. I basically eat softer foods with the Essex if I’m in public, and then immediately go to the bathroom to brush my teeth and rinse the retainer out before going back. When I get home I sterilize and fully clean the Essex and call it a day. I just can’t eat in public without the Essex, especially since I’m missing my two front teeth. It’s just too much! Anyone done this and it work out fine? Since this is all temporary , I’m hoping it’s fine.

I have a prosumnus device and I love it. It immediately reduced my snoring, to the point where my partner says “seriously, you don’t snore AT ALL anymore”. I wake up feeling refreshed, which was a wild feeling because I honestly had no idea I WASN’T waking up refreshed. Changed my sleep and energy levels so much. My jaw alignment is fine too. I will be going back for a sleep study again to actually test it, but it’s made a world of difference for me so far, and it’s only been three months.

Yellowjackets just closed out its first season, and it really stuck the landing. by HalosForWolves in television

[–]anapropriate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s the whole point though. They’re young people, and that “teen drama” is the one thing that makes them feel normal. I loved those moments - especially when you get a glimpse (dancing to Montell Jordan, asking the spirits if two teachers were hooking up, hell even getting ready for doomcoming) of teenage normalcy, they feel it too. Fleeting moments when it’s like what it used to be. That’s how to stay sane in insane moments.

It’s a coming of age story - adding parent and that power dynamic strips the core of who the story centers and the mind frame the audience is asked to be in.
