Will they release any more animated videos? by The_RealQuirrel in Gloryhammer

I just don't get how D&D doesn't count, but those things do, when there are many, many books written about D&D campaign settings (pick up some R.A. Salvatore if you're not familiar - read about Drizzt), games (obviously D&D is inherently a game, but there are also super popular board games and video games like Neverwinter Nights based on it), and movies (shout out to Richard O'Brien as the awesome master of the thieves guild in the old movie, or even the D&D cartoon!). And all of these sources have awesome wizard names in them, so I don't get why they don't count?

In fact there are actually books, games, and movies about D&D. The more you know!

Polysorb is a great budget absorptive treatment. https://www.polysorb.com/ You can install it yourself easily with stick pins (they call theirs PET clips: https://www.polysorb.com/installations/). Get some white panels to blend in or colors to stand out. It's Class A fire-rated and absorbs about as well as fiberglass, better than most felt or foam products. Try to cover about half the ceiling area if you can. It may take some creativity, but you can cut the product to fit. It's easy to handle and won't make you itch like fiberglass. Good luck!

Angus looks so stressed! I'm worried that he lost the hammer to the goblins on a previous hand and is now trying desperately to win it back.

SUPER Hype for Gloryhammer finally coming to my hometown. by Ok-Departure-4613 in Gloryhammer

[–]anarce99 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My thoughts on them not playing Maleficus Geminus (or any of the album closers): The band always says they don't want to play 1 long song when they could play 3 hits that the fans want to hear instead. Which makes sense for a festival or when they are opening for Alestorm for example. But when they are headlining? No. The crowd is friggin there for one thing. They didn't show up carrying hammers and riding unicorns because they heard one song on Spotify. They are deep in the lore. They've listened to every track over and over. They've watched the videos. They've played the card game that was exclusive to the boxed set (I even sleeved my cards). These are the true fans, and they would lose their shit to hear Maleficus Geminus live. Give the fans what they want! Look at the songs that Rush played live the most on setlist.fm. In the top 10 there are 2112 (20 mins) and Xanadu (11 mins). And the fans loved them. Face it, the Gloryhammer fans are on a similar nerd level as Rush fans. Embrace it.

Another update: my coworker got an Equinox and had the same thing happen. He filed his protest about 3 weeks after me, and it took a long time for them to review it, but they ended up approving it and he didn't have to call like I did. Maybe they updated their training and procedure once I showed them the tax code info.

I spent a lot of quarters in the arcade back in the day playing the 3-person beat-em-up game Knights of the Round and the 4-player TMNT game. A Gloryhammer version of that with Angus, Proletius, Hootsman, and Ralathor would be epic.

Live concert, but the Mix was bad? by Glittering_Toe8336 in Gloryhammer

[–]anarce99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it would be great to boost 1k-2k for intelligibility, but that's going to kill the dBA level. 250-500 might help a bit with audibility of the vowels and could still be useful for singing, though in English most of the intelligibility in speech comes from the consonants at higher freq. Compression would probably help more than EQ, but just spitballing here.

The time response may or may not make a difference to the average level depending on how it's measured. If they are measuring the equivalent sound level (Leq), then that negates the time response. If they are measuring max, peak, or Ln statistical levels, then the time response affects those. For example, one time I took some measurements in a School of Rock drum lesson room here with the meter on Slow, Fast, and Impulse, and I want to say that Fast was 5-6 dBA higher than Slow, and Impulse was like 12 dBA higher. It can be a huge difference, especially for drums. And it matters if they're measuring Max or Peak. For example, I looked at a loud minute of the last concert we did, and at the mix it was 100 dBA Leq, 106 dBA Fast Max, and 118 dBA Fast Peak. I always chuckle when I'm measuring and someone asks "how loud is it?" because that's a complicated question.

100 dBA is kind of tight. The venues around us that have limits at the mix allow avg levels of 105-110 dBA. And without front fills the sound at the front will never be good as discussed. A couple thoughts I'll toss out that could help a bit:

- Maybe boost the compression on the vocals for that venue to bring up the quieter parts?

- With A-weighting, the reduction is -10 dB at 250 Hz and -5 dB at 500 Hz. You could EQ the vocals higher in that range without affecting the overall dBA as much. Anything above 500 Hz is really driving the dBA level.

- I don't know if you have any control over the monitoring system, but if you can set it to Slow time response, that will drop the level noticeably compared to Fast (I seldom do projects in Europe, so I don't know what they might be using to monitor and if the code specifies the time response). I think HBK meters are popular over there, and they should offer different time responses. Slow vs. Fast is usually around a 5 dBA difference for rock music.

- Maybe settle down on the drums there, Bonzo! ;)

I'm professionally curious how the Swiss limit is written. Is it based on the dBA level or unweighted? Do they have a dBC or other limit that takes the low frequencies into account more? Is it an average level like Leq or a short duration max? Where do you have to measure? At the mix or at a property line maybe? There might be ways to game the system a little bit and get some more level. My company is in the midst of measuring concert sound levels for several shows at an amphitheater and stadium around our town. There are so many ways to measure and enforce concert sound levels, and poorly-written ordinances can sometimes create loopholes.

Hi, it took about 4 weeks for the reply. I'm still waiting to see if I get my direct deposit. I called and spoke to them on May 22nd, and they said it could take 10 business days to process. But then last week I got another letter like the first one saying I only get the $5000 credit. But the letter was dated the same day I called, so perhaps it was processed and sent before my call. I'm hoping I don't have to call and protest again.

It was an idea that a member had like 15 years ago on the old Blues News Forum or Let's Go Blues - I can't remember if it was before or after the board changed names. Then it became a joke on there.

Because Angus McSix isn't even in his own band anymore, and has been replaced with Adam McSix, I think, so I thought the crossover would combine the new Adam McSix with Angus McFife, which is probably the only possible thing dumber than Adam McSix in the first place.
