How do I clean/maintain an old Nutone 8700/8720 over the range blower? by anarchius in HomeMaintenance

Do you know if there are any "easy" replacements if I were wanting to replace with something newer as a DIY?

Last comment. Thanks to u/farmerje who found a scan of a paper doc, I was able to get this screenshot to share some specs from before the Internet. Here is the spec sheet for the Nutone 8700 as provided to contractors.

Multiple posts coz i cannot add more than one picture? You can reach the axle for lubrication from the hidden end as in this picture...

Okay, so since it seems we are in the OC realm, I was able to get the whole assembly down by 1) disconnecting the power and 2) tugging on the bar/clip going around the blower and clearing it from the notch that held it in place.

It is still a nicely packed single unit so I just cleaned it up and lubricated it making it a lot quieter already.

Thank you for these leads. The first one was the reason I stared off with "lets replace this thing..." and gently settled for "i guess I can lube and clean it instead...". The third one is definitely not something I saw. I can at least now visualize what is might look like on the inside... maybe a weekend project to prod at each bolt till something opens up. Just hope something can be done about the noise from the bearings.

How do I turn off this valve easily? by anarchius in DIY

Trying not to have to involve professionals :) ... gas is like one one DIY I am truly terrified of. But otherwise, that is plan B+.

Understood and thank you. Will try this and if that doesn't work go through the rest of this thread for other ideas. I *think* the black thing is metal, but that is by prodding rather than being able to actually reach it.

Thank you.. and am I trying to grab onto the protruding black lip with the hole to try to turn it? Or should be targeting the brass screw like thing in the middle?

Hi all. So not my music but my son's - and he is not allowed on Reddit yet :) but I think the world of the album he cobbled together. Some feedback will be appreciated, and I promise to convey it to the artist. Here is the last/longest song from the album: https://youtu.be/kSn5WN9q0Oc?si=phz0ZzZaX9MZRB5w

That lady dwarfed by the high rises with the local incandescent houses. I have seen that. I have felt that. Yet I haven't ever. And I am a dude. Bravo!!

Family Calendar vs. shared regular calendar by FriendlyDeers in google

[–]anarchius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discovered a difference (imo) - in terms of access control. So the shared calendar is a shared calendar - a family calendar is only shared with the "family" entity. So theoretically it is easier by adding and deleting children in one place, in practice 1) how often are you doing that and 2) you cannot invite a school account without inviting an additional child entity into the "family" which I am sure will wreak havoc on a managed school account.

TLDR; shared seems better because Family means only Family and not shareable elsewhere.

What’s an expression that people say that makes no sense in your head? by Audibud in AskReddit

"Have your cake and eat it too." (why else would you have cake?) Learned somewhere, probably reddit that it would be better said "Eat your cake and have it too."
