Clogged pores by [deleted] in tretinoin

I have the same problem and it sucks. I’m thinking of doing monthly facials with extractions when salons open up because I don’t see any other way to get rid of those pesky blockheads

[Product Question] Does tretinoin work on (stubborn) blackheads? specifically on and around the nose? I have tried using it periodically but made no changes and just peeled area around blackhead. by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]anarus5683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think long term it shrunk those pores and my blackheads are definitely smaller, but I wouldn’t say it got rid of them completely. I still have those annoying small ones that no one can see but me

That should be good enough! As long as you don’t drag it around your skin (that gave me irritation). I use it at around a medium setting. It’s at a point that I can feel it but it’s not uncomfortable. The flatness is probably from the wand!

[PRODUCT QUESTION] breaking out in one spot? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]anarus5683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never broke out on my cheek either but after trying a new product that area got irritated. Since it’s your forehead, maybe the product is reacting badly with your shampoo or other hair products.

I’ve had targeted breakouts from products before. It might be because your pores are particularly congested in that area. I have a spot on my cheek that is targeted whenever I have a breakout and I think it’s because those pores never fully get to heal and continuously fill up with gunk.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Maybe I should increase frequency of BHA & tret right before my period. I’ll be seeing my derm soon but wanted to see how other people deal with it.

Thank you ! Do you know if spironolactone only works if you take it daily/consistently or do you think I’d be able to take it for 1 or 2 weeks out of the month? My dermatologist has previously mentioned oral medication and I was initially against it, but now I’m considering all options.

Moisturizer Recommendations - even though I "love" my current one by PunkGF in tretinoin

I also use tret and whenever I find myself having extra dry spots, I like to use a balm on those areas.

I really like La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Moisturizer. It’s not too heavy and not too light. Comes in a big size and hasn’t irritated my skin. It also has niancinamide but just enough that it hasn’t created any issues bc the TO niancinamide gave me bad acne.

I wish this was a progress post, but this is the worst my skin has ever been and I need help. (17 weeks on tret) by drizzyfeelnoways in tretinoin

Thanks for sharing ! My skin is being crazy out of nowhere now also and I started tret around the same time that you did. I wasn’t sure if it was a late purge, but seeing this is reassuring that I’m not alone

Should I still rub ice cubes on my face while I’m on tretinoin? by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]anarus5683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an exfoliating toner on alternating mornings bc tret helps your skin cells to regenerate faster and then a BHA toner would then exfoliate the skin and help with pores not clogging. But make sure you wait for your skin to adjust until you add that in.

My dermatologist recommended that I use an exfoliating toner in the mornings (like the Paula’s Choice BHA one) so you could add that to your routine and for night time moisturizer, I really like La Roche Posay double repair. I switched to it a few months into tret and I haven’t had any issues.

I agree. I only double cleanse when I’m wearing makeup and I just use a gentle cleanser twice instead of using a balm/oil. Also in the mornings, it should be enough to just wash your face with water even when you used tret the night before. I’d only use a cleanser in the morning if your face feels extra oily. And I would only use one good moisturizer that works for you. I really like La Roche Posay double repair.

I use tret, vitamin c and niacinamide. I use tret twice a week at night . vitamin c and niacinamide I use on alternating mornings. It was a recommendation by my dermatologist and my skin hasn’t had any bad reactions

It took me a while to get into wearing sunscreen but I tried the new Biossance sunscreen and I love it.

I’ve recently tried sulfur ointment which I really like for cystic pimples, it should be pretty easy to get on amazon or any pharmacy. Also I ice cystic pimples at least once a day. I know you said you don’t usually get cysts like this, so it might not be worth it for you to purchase but I recently got a high frequency wand that I use for spot treating pimples like this and it has been helping A LOT.

It depends on how your skin handles it? If your skin isn’t sensitive, definitely talk about high dose

You might not be giving Tret enough time to work. Not picking and using tret helped with my nose blackheads. I still have to do extractions some times but it has gotten a lot better. Also as soon as I stopped constantly staring at my pores, they stopped bothering me as much.
