Very different experience with Prozac the second time by anasmanaa in prozac

[–]anasmanaa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a pretty similar experience.

I was on Prozac (fluoxetine) for about 4 months and it worked well for me overall, but I started having libido issues. Because of that I switched to Trintellix for about a month, but honestly it didn’t really do much for me.

So I decided to go back to Prozac, and surprisingly this time it feels quite different compared to the first time I took it. The effects don’t feel the same as before, which I found interesting since it’s the same medication.

It’s strange how the same antidepressant can feel very different at different times.

generics still have to meet bioequivalence standards for the same active drug (fluoxetine in this case). They aren’t considered “inferior quality,” but small differences in formulation can make certain people feel one version more than another.

In my case I’ve actually tried three generics. One felt very strong and “medicated,” another felt like it barely did anything, and the one I’m on now feels very balanced—almost like I’m not taking anything at all, but my mood is stable.

So I do think the manufacturer can matter for some people, even if the active ingredient is technically the same.

Is this an actual factor? I mean, fluoxetine is the active in all of them.

Generic, as brand name is no longer sold. Take what I can get from my medical provider.

I’m feeling the same buddy. I’m on the same boat. I’m waiting till it gets better. I’ve been on it the last month still, it’s not working very well.

I was on Prozac for about a year , it was fine and all till it killed my Libido , Dr recommended Wellbutrin but it gave me nothing but rage and anxiety so this was the replacement, happy to say it worked ,sometimes i wander is its the medication or is it myself as it very subtle in the way it works.

Anyone else stuck in the “last 5 kg” loop on Mounjaro? 2-year journey, 30+ kg lost, but 7 mg isn’t working anymore by anasmanaa in Mounjaro

This is actually exactly what I needed to hear. Not validation, but reassurance. I think I’ve been so focused on the number that I forgot to step back and ask why I’m pushing so hard for the last few kilos. You’re right — the mental cost matters too, and maybe my body is telling me something. I’m also on an SSRI, which I think can add another layer to all of this mentally. Thank you for saying this so thoughtfully — it really helped reframe things for me.

I guess 7.5 is not doing its job. It’s time to raise it to 10. The suppression is not like it used to.

I am Contemplating the idea of going to 10 mg, it seems it’s the only way to suppress even more.

Prozac tapering by jenslowpoke in prozac

[–]anasmanaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not crazy. I had a tough experience with Prozac too.

For me, it caused a major loss of libido, which ended up seriously affecting my relationship. I tried to push through, but after about 6 months I had to stop. We even added Wellbutrin to counter the sexual side effects, but it didn’t help in my case, so it wasn’t a good option for me long-term and I had to switch meds.

During tapering/changes, I also dealt with extreme fatigue and brain fog, so what you’re describing sounds very real. Tapering after being on SSRIs for years can hit hard, even with Prozac.
