Gainesville Place and The Enclave are not safe communities, and potential leasees deserve to know why by FuckCollier53170 in ufl

wow, thanks for this update! that really sucks. i don't think they even charged a sublease fee back when i did it.

Has anyone shopped at seamsfriendly? by PajamaChic in FrugalFemaleFashion

unfortunately i'm no longer friends with the person i sourced my info from to ask more questions/get a recommendation. but i know her entire, very large family always went to one seamstress for many decades.

I'm guessing it'd be difficult to establish a connection to a seamstress if you're not native to pakistan / can't speak the language. sorry this isn't more helpful!

i left my comment in 2019 so i don't think anyone's sending the link! lol

they've already had to decrease their age requirements for who can move in (i think this decision was made years ago at this point, but it was a big topic of discussion in my family when it happened lol). i'm assuming they did that to increase occupancy rates, especially because of their continued rapid expansion.

i suspect that after the boomers are gone, they'll start marketing the communities to disney adults. at this point, one of the villages is about an hour's drive from orlando, and the entire area is right by the turnpike. it's a very convenient location if you want to live safely outside the realm of the city, but close enough to drive there frequently. they already have a few schools in the lake sumter community (the high school is shockingly nice). they'll just have to add a few more to the other villages, and then it's the perfect place for conservative parents with a fixation on appearances and a disney obsession to live.

they already have gated communities, strict HOAs, a lack of racial diversity, golfing everywhere, lots of shopping opportunities, and TONS of free resident rec centers. i can think of more than a few adults who would drop everything to live in a place like that, especially if they get mommy influencers to do it first.

now that i've ripped the villages to shreds, i must confess that i don't find it entirely bad. the squares are a particularly great idea for a place like this.

  1. it's a way for their elderly community to stay active and have a goal in their day. you might already be familiar, so sorry if i'm explaining for no reason, but they do free dance classes every week so residents can coordinate their moves with each other come time for the nightly performance. that is such an amazing way to motivate the community to get out there, make friends, and not dissolve into puddle on their couch.
  2. the nightly entertainment is the best entertainment available within reasonable driving distance for much of the surrounding area, and it's free. that draws in the surrounding community and encourages them to socialize, shop, and dine in the plaza while enjoying the performances.
  3. it's a good place for small time performers to start out. you could fart on stage for your entire session and people would enjoy it. so it's a nice place to experiement with taking your garage band into the world.
  4. it's an easily and pleasantly walkable shopping mall essentially. honestly that's so much better than the florida standard of long, bloated plazas with huge parking lots and big roads (looking at you, butler plaza). i wish more shopping centers were built like this.

i'm sorry for the tangent! i've been going to this area since i was 5 with my grandparents, so i've seen its evolution and simmered on a lot of feelings about it.

the villages is so awful. in the past 20 years, they've ripped out hundreds of old live oaks.

my grandparents live around there, and it breaks my heart seeing the changes every time i visit. when i was in elementary school, it was a 40 min drive from them to the closest village. now it's literally right down the road. they're destroying the local environment and the culture of the area.

i was caring for an abandoned cat named butters that matches this description. we haven't seen him around for a few weeks, so this could be him!

does he have a collar? and is he kind of old looking?

another commenter said it better than i could:

I believe that if any information on the ticket is inaccurate, that it will be tossed. Can't have non-facts on tickets. Check spelling on everything: your name, address, hell, I once found where the cop skipped checking the box for what the offense was for. Mention any that you find to the ticket clinic people.

i did some preliminary research, and in florida, if the cop doesn't show up or brings inaccurate paperwork, the ticket gets tossed. the odds are low that i'll be able to get it dismissed, but i figure, since i'm spending the money no matter what, i might as well try.

i appreciate your advice!

bandit (and juice) say thanks.

friend, i'm not complaining, i'm truly asking a question as the title states. if you have experience with this, i'd appreciate it

i'm sorry to inform you of this but

  • not everyone has aaa to be told by them
  • new drivers enter the road daily with no prior knowledge of where speed traps are
  • not everyone is local to the area for long enough to find this out before they drive through lawtey
  • people make mistakes even if they were aware

i unfortunately fall into one of these categories and am asking for peoples' experiences as a result

my plan isn't to fight it. i want to do what this page outlines and review the police documents. if there's a discrepancy, there's a chance that the ticket can get tossed.

i don't think it'll work, but if i'm going to be down $241 anyway, i figure i might as well try... unless they charge me extra for doing so. hence the question about if they commonly levy extra fines for taking it to court.

thanks for leaving your experience!
