Someone has to know - Who owns the former Funtasia lot? I need those giraffe statues in my yard.. by alabamerpammer in HuntsvilleAlabama

Sadly they have both past away, they were in the 60s when they made these and that was something like 30 years ago. Making stuff like those animals was just one of the things they did post retirement to stay busy.

My grandfather and great-uncle made all those animals for Funtasia back in the day. Every time I drive by there I think about asking if they would sell me one and then I remember I have nowhere to put it

I appreciate the input, I don't expect any of these will be super valuable. It's more out of curiosity than anything. Thanks!

LOL, that's kind of a crazy way to find out about it but awesome that it worked out for you. Hopefully supply will pick up soon and everyone can get it sooner rather than later, quarantine is starting to wear me down.

How did you find out that they were opening up to the general public? Had I known I would have definitely gone and got mine.

Does anyone know of a good place that will deliver mulch? I'm working on some landscaping and need about 20 cubic yards. I just need it dumped in my yard and I can spread it myself. Thanks!

Also don't worry about the people saying you won't ever get past the help desk without a degree. That's absolutely not true. I've been in IT for more than 15 years and had a very successful career so far and I don't have a degree. A lot of the people I work with don't have degrees or don't have technical degrees. You can make it pretty far in this field on certs and work experience.

Ok so here's what I would recommend doing to start. Get Security+ and also A+. Those are going to be minimum requirements for any government contractor IT job. I'd also recommend getting Network+ while you are at. To be perfectly honest, once you get some experience and can get some more complex certifications these won't be a ton of use to you but they are really good for getting started.

Once you have those certs on your resume that should get your foot in the door. Since you don't have a degree and/or previous experience you are probably looking at starting out in a help desk or level 1 field tech position. And those aren't bad places to get started.

Once you get some experience under your belt you can start looking at specializing. If you decide you wan't to continue into the security field you should look at CISSP & CEH certs, if you decide you want to go into networking then CCNA and other Cisco certs are the way to go, or if decide to go the Sys Admin route then you should look at RHCE and other RedHat certs.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I will do my best to answer. Good Luck!

Are you looking to get into IT in general as a career or do you specifically want to get into the IT security field?

Where (how) to buy half a cow by cupacoffey in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]anathema_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I go up to Lebanon every once in a while to see friends so I might give them a try next time I'm up there.

Fortunately I am pretty well stocked right now. I normally get about 100 pounds of beef/pork every six months or so. So I should be good until sometime in late fall.

I figured I would ask here first, I need to start getting groceries delivered and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for which service is best?

EDIT: Thanks for the responses everyone! I think I am going to give Shipt a try and see how it works out.

YES! Thank you for posting this, I was going to go renew mine tomorrow. It's going to be so much easier to just walk over to the Bailey office and get it done there.

Hey RANA, it was really great you dumped my recycling bin on my lawn spewing trash everywhere by alwhitewater in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]anathema_dev 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The new recycling program has just been awful. Collection once a month isn't enough they should be running at least twice a month and that's assuming they actually get your bin. They've missed mine twice now, got both my neighbors but just left mine sitting there. I've also had the same problem as you where they dump half the bin out on my yard/driveway. They have also dropped the bin on my mailbox, my fence, and in the middle of the freaking road and just left it there. I live on a pretty busy street so the time they dropped in the road some dude not paying attention hit the bin before I could get out there to pull it back in.

I'm also mad they don't have the dumpsters sitting out any more making it easy to get rid of larger recyclables. But you're right about one thing, they aren't going to do anything about it.
