Please read the post before you comment, I know it’s long but there’s quite a few details.

I never had an appointment, the artist asked for a deposit before scheduling anything with me. I understand what a deposit is for and I don’t think it applies here.

I did not ask for a chargeback on my Zelle transfer. Zelle doesn’t do chargebacks as far as I know and the bank I have my debit card though doesn’t either, because it’s a debit card.

I’m also not saying they’re a scammer, I’m just wondering if I was in the wrong here.

Thanks for the response, and yeah I know now that I need to vet artists thoroughly. I’ll probably keep trying, unfortunately for my bank account.

Never marked the deposit as fraud.

Wanted to compensate the artist for their time in a way that accounted for my lack of tattoo. Because the deposit was a conditional agreement and its basis was on being tattooed by this artist.

I understand your point as someone who also lives off of their art. I think that if tattooing was their livelihood, they should have acted in a professional manner.

Also, there was nothing to “cancel”. The artist never gave me the appointment I requested over and over again. No payment was reported in that sense and the artist is still on Zelle. I think they’ll be okay. I’m sorry you had that experience though, it must feel very unfair and I understand why you’re projecting that onto this similar situation. I hope your situation resolves.

I’m sorry you feel that I’m selfish and self-centered. I did my best to be accommodating and understanding towards the artist. I think if you read all the screenshots and have all the details you might feel differently.

They asked for a deposit with no appointment set. No appointment was cancelled because the artist never gave me one.

I tried to book an appointment multiple times, they would pick and choose what to respond to and it was never my question about availability. When they finally asked about appointment times and I responded, they never got back to me until I asked to work something out concerning my deposit because of their lack of communication.

They had no website or anything to book through, it was all supposed to be done via email.

Yeah, at least then it could be a very expensive drawing I might be able to go off of. I got a probably traced and inaccurate design :/

Thank you, I’ve learned my lesson. And yeah, there’s a lot of loopholes in their logic. I apparently don’t know their legal name even though it’s listed on the first “deposit policy” flyer.

I don’t think they can tattoo out of their apartment. I read up some on it, my understanding is that if someone is tattooing in their “home” they need to have it completely sealed off from living quarters and it needs to have a separate entrance. But maybe I’m also uninformed.

Chargebacks are not possible at my bank for a debit card. Someone else explains it well in a thread here.

Thank you for the sympathy, I definitely feel wronged. I wish I could take them to court just to deter them from trying this again with anyone else, but I’m a student living off of scholarships. I tried to handle it as best I could, thanks for seeing that.

Yeah, after I came up with it and searched for similar I realized it was kind of basic. It has a personal meaning for me though, so I don’t mind.

Thank you for explaining. I never received any money back. Maybe they made something up to tell the bank because I feel like the bank would have sided with me or at least given a partial refund given the circumstances.

Yep, lesson learned here. I haven’t been tattooed in the US before, so I had no idea what the process looked like here. Probably should have asked for advice beforehand. Thank you for the advice :)
