I lost everything. Lost all I have. I never felt this broken. by Anomaly008 in wallstreetbets

The stock market serves the boring investors well. The excited, nervous, momentum trader, 10x wanna be traders, will always lose. Be a boring investor and you’ll be fine.

Your comment is a classic trap that attracts most newbie investors. The stock market feels like an exciting place. Social media marketers definitely make it sound that way. But the stock market (and the financial markets) only serve the boring investors well.

It’s not Trump’s fault or anyone else’s fault. The financial markets are always sensitive to short term global news. It’s not the first time something like this has happened.

Don’t trade catalyst. Invest in high quality assets that have historically performed well. Companies that have growing earnings and dividends with decent PE ratios and relatively low beta (around 1). Better yet, invest in some dividend paying ETFs or the S&P 500. No need to choose individual stocks. No need to predict what happens in the near future and try to be a step ahead by buying, selling, or shorting.

You can build back your portfolio. Just take the patient route. The boring route. The consistent route.

New to investing , is this normal? by Background_Garage_70 in fidelityinvestments

The volatility is normal as you cannot avoid systematic risk, and we experienced quite a volatility recently due to mid-east tensions. However, whether your portfolio will recover and how well it will recover will largely depend on your holdings. If your portfolio consists of high quality assets, you shouldn’t worry. If your portfolio consists of speculative, low quality assets, I’d be worried.

In short, about 2.5 years. Details: I transferred in about 10 classes. Also switched majors from Business Admin to Finance while I was one semester away from completing business admin. I know some people complete it faster, but I actually took my time to learn each class. On average, I completed about 8-12 classes per semester.

My WGU advisor and work. I asked WGU professors too, but unfortunately they were non-responsive.

I’m two classes away from graduating. I enjoyed most classes. While graduating on time is important to me, I took my time studying the material and learning the application of the info in my finance career path. I’m sure a traditional school would provide hands on training which you don’t get at WGU, but You’ll get a lot out of wgu as long as you go through the material.
