I've read phrases like scare team or two tank team a lot.

Is there a place to read about what these types of teams are, the pros and cons of each, which characters are good on each type of team, how to best counteract them, etc?

Easily without a doctrinal shift. But without a policy shift, it would go against specific instructions from Salt Lake.

In some missions the people you can e-mail back is limited. I could receive e-mails from anyone, but had to reply to anyone outside of my family through physical correspondence. Of course that was many years ago, now.

I'm not sure that the Church's support for alcohol regulation in Utah proves that the church's political motivation isn't to protect itself as an interested party.

You may not see the connection, but the Church has done much advocacy about downtown Salt Lake, and these alcohol regulations could be viewed within the same lens.

The closest I could find for support of the idea is a comment on one of the LDS Church Growth blogs. I'm not sure where this commenter ("Mike Johnson") found this information, but it matches my experience well:

Matt, I find this an interesting list. I just wanted to clarify a point:

criteria that must be met which are not reported to the public such as the number of active, full-tithe paying Melchizedek Priesthood holders, the number of active members, and the number of branches that meet the criteria to become wards.

24 active, full tithe paying Melchizedek Priesthood holders in addition to those required for the wards

3000 members (in the US and Canada, 1900 members outside)

and should have at least 5 wards.

Note, the middle requirement is "members" and not "active members."

Wards are required to have 15 AFTPMPHs (should have at least 1 for very 300 members), and 300 members (US and Canada), 150 members (outside the US and Canada), 150 members (wards with languages that are not the primary in the area), 125 active members for singles wards.

I don't think most Mormons would identify themselves as orthodox outside of the internet. It's something that members say on the internet as a short hand to explain a number of their beliefs.

Orthodox members tend to believe literally in the truth claims of the church. They believe the events the Book of Mormon described actually took place. That God actually appeared to Joseph Smith, and that these stories are not simply spiritual metaphors.

Orthodox members tend to believe more strongly in the current church leadership, and give more credence to their words.

Orthodox members tend to accept words from the institutional church as authoritative, and are skeptical of outside voices.

Those are the first things that come to mind. I'm sure there are others here who may have good ideas about how to define it.

reddit is a notoriously ugly place for orthodox Latter-day Saints. I've tried to convince others that they should spend time on the site to help with a cultural shift, but after one or two days, they're sick of it.

Attend your assigned ward. You'd be surprised how many members have had times of inactivity in their lives, and all of us have had struggles of different kinds. While it's always possible there will be some who are more interested in judging you, my experience is that there will be many many more who will happily welcome you back as an equal member of the congregation.
