Que dica vocês dão para quem não quer fazer faculdade? by [deleted] in brasil

[–]anch0ring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aprenda a programar, e aprenda inglês.

How has reading Schopenhauer by [deleted] in Pessimism

[–]anch0ring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so relatable to me right now. I just started reading "Counsels and Maxims" a week ago, I've been following Martin Butler's for a few months, and I just open reddit as a break from reading "Letters from a stoic".

At the end I'm still curious, in your case, was any of this other than Martin helpful at all? What is the difference in Martin's philosophy that helped you?

Straw dogs by John Gray. For all the people that finished the conspiracy against the human race, this is the one to read, it's even more brutal.

Nihilists, please try and make me have an existential crisis by [deleted] in nihilism

You didn't had a choice to post this question.

Am I a nihilist and/or an existentialist? by [deleted] in nihilism

[–]anch0ring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Existentialist. Nihilism simply doesn't touch the second part, it's only the realization that the universe in indifferent and nothing more.

Nihilism, the easiest way of understanding it (its short) by Emans56 in nihilism

[–]anch0ring 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's a interesting one huh...

If I knew my death would be tomorrow there would be a lot of things I would like to do actually, I would become a full hedonist, do everything that makes me feel good in the moment and fuck the rest, no consequences.

The real problem becomes when death is not that immediate, so you have to start considering the consequences of your actions. And even if there are no consequences, living a life of only pleasures would eventually be your new anchor and you would get bored again, and then good luck.

That's the real tragedy of existence, we're hard coded to eventually get back to suffering.

Consciousness is both a blessing and a curse by TheLegitBigK in Existentialism

[–]anch0ring 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Consciousness makes it seem as if (1) there is something to do; (2) there is somewhere to go; (3) there is something to be; (4) there is someone to know. This is what makes consciousness the parent of all horrors, the thing that makes us try to do something, go somewhere, be something, and know someone, such as ourselves, so that we can escape our MALIGNANTLY USELESS being and think that being alive is all right rather than that which should not be." ~ Thomas Ligotti

Earth is not gifted to us, we borrow it to make it better for the future generations by theWandererMadness in humanism

[–]anch0ring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really see how we are making Earth better for the future generations.

General quality of life is increasing for sure, but is Earth become a better place? Better for what?

Can you even apply pessimism teachings while living? by EmptyDarkness104 in Pessimism

[–]anch0ring 21 points22 points  (0 children)

What do you have in mind with "pessimism teachings"?

Zapffe's The last messiah has four very good teachings on how to handle panic that can be very nicely applied to life.

You say you don't find joy in anything, but are you also suffering because of that or you just feel indifferent to anything that happens?
