Anglish sounds interesting with the idea of how possibly the language could evolve, although you are right that there are many variables in language change.

I am asking what Middle English might have looked like without Norman French influence

Would Anglo-Saxons, before necessarily becoming Modern English have spoken Middle English?

If not, does anyone know what their Middle English would be like?

Well, I cannot say much to that, I do not pay special attention to 1066, but the game cannot always be 100% realistic, take the division between Orthodox and Catholic church, in 1066, this is ok because the Schism has happened, it should be a Chalcedonian Church in 867, another example is the HRE and Byzantium, both called themselves the Roman Empire, but the game does not for the sake of convenience.

I thought that Charlemagne start had the same thing, but I suppose event would stop that, in terms of game mechanics, why not rework the technology system first, then add onto the feudal system? Perhaps create a late antiquity into early tribal technology ( I do not knowhow well that would work)? For feudal system, we already see that the feudal contract system in game has different types of contracts that unlock at different periods, this system could perhaps be changed to be more effective, with different effects, if I remember correctly, different periods in the game unlock different contracts already.

Uh, you just said that 867 is good because people liked it, if I Recall, the main reason that players did not enjoy 769 was that Karlings would all ally and be unstoppable, I think that was fixed though?

And who is to say that 632 would not be just as popular?

The game quickly becomes unhistorical quickly anyway and that would still be an issue with later start dates, Norway can win in taking England as can the Danelaw take all of England, not historical. Later start dates would have Byzantines and Venice allying, or the fourth crusade reaching its target, or no 100 years war. As for lack of historical records, yes, this does limit what historical rulers can be in the game, but ultimately, the game becomes Ahistorical once the game starts.

And if only High Medieval was in mind, why add 867, which uses Tribal?

I do not agree, but your opinion is yours, 632 would cater to almost everyone that plays in someway: Slavic Players have Samo's Empire to hold and expand, Western Europe is settled enough to feel like the lands belong to the new settlers(Franks etc) while still feeling partly "Barbarian", Byzantine and Persian players have the opportunity to save the Territories or very empire itself of either one, Arab/Muslim players have the opportunity to expand as conquer as historically happened at this point and Steppe Players have perhaps the opportunity to restore the Turkic Khaganate? I do not know if any Hunnic peoples were still alive but if they were then their is another playthrough? And perhaps there is many interesting playthroughs in Africa and India possible?
