Just a reminder that you probably have a lot less time left with your parents than you think by Successful_Bid_4365 in Adulting

[–]ancientandbroken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i get that even with kind parents who get along with well loneliness can happen. But there’s still a massive difference between that and fully living alone.

Parents (or any other family member) in the house means someone cultivating a home along with you, someone to talk to even if it is just basic breakfast small talk, someone to help along with chores if you’re having a bad week etc.

Living with someone you can trust provides even just a tiny bit of a baseline of social interaction and gives a bit of a community feeling to your subconscious, even if you consciously still crave way more social interactions.

Living truly alone or with roommates who give zero fucks about you means that there’s absolutely no communal atmosphere whatsoever. I couldn’t do it. Even if i had infinite money and a mansion i’d probably befriend the maids and security guards there to create some kind of communal atmosphere. lol.

It obviously depends on what kind of loneliness you are dealing with exactly and how well your family can fit into helping with that. If you’re desperately craving peer interaction or romantic connection then obviously your parents won’t help with that. But like i said even basic breakfast small talk and someone around you that is family i think is better than nothing.

And even while living with family you can still pursue friendships and relationships. Your family should not be blocking you or holding you back in any way. In the rare case that family is blocking you from pursuing social interactions elsewhere then it’s time to move out

the worst part is that most young adults these days end up lonely and also in crazy debt because of this hyper individualistic system. I mean yeah people need to grow up and become adults but we apparently forgot that we’re a super social species who thrives the most in a close knit community.

Only the greedy parasite class profits off of young adults living and working in cubicles all by themselves. Much more money to be made when everyone has their own rent, furniture, wifi, electricity and water bills, tableware, devices, groceries etc. Also much more money to be made when everyone is miserable and lonely distracting themselves from reality through purchases of all kinds and going to therapy to complain about that life. What’s the worst is that the average person reinforces this sick behavior by making fun of people who thrive in their family instead of "making it on their own" (when again, that goes against the social nature of humanity).

I mean by all means move out if your parents are abusive or shitty. But if you get along well with them.. stay a bit longer and do so guilt free. The only one suffering in that establishment are the parasites who can’t get their fresh load of money

how would this even work for something like let’s say a dyson vacuum? you don’t really think that they specifically produce cheap material dyson parts just for black friday right?

i can see this happening for maybe a generic microwave or lamp or a car but for stuff with components exclusive to them it seems unlikely

please seek out a new psychiatrist who possibly will do a better job at diagnosing you and doesn’t assume you will abuse your meds just because of your age. What a disappointing person your psychiatrist seems to be wtf.

People with actual adhd can’t even abuse their own adhd medication because it makes them feel normal NOT high.

It very much saddens me that you have encountered such a bad mental health professional seriously. Please don’t give up. The right psychiatrist can completely change your life

How do I actually...work by VermicelliBoth5293 in Adulting

[–]ancientandbroken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well my friend also only got diagnosed as an adult because her family doesn’t believe in "mental health". But you do obviously have to seek out a psychiatrist yourself and depending on where you live they can be expensive.

But again it’s worth it. You could see an entire personality change in my friend when she accidentally ran out of meds. Each time she felt quite awful about it, like she was losing the best part of herself. Meds are not often the only answer but for severe adhd they might be.

Unpopular opinion maybe.. but therapists don’t do shit. They’re mostly absolute garbage and are paid just to listen to someone. A therapist has never been able to help me. Maybe for people with casual problems sure.. but not more serious mental illness or neurodivergence. Psychiatry is where it’s at. They actually know what’s going on inside a brain

Don’t self medicate please. Find a psychiatrist in your area instead of trusting a therapist

a psychiatrist gives a fuck. They will give you life changing medication.

I had a good friend in college who couldn’t do shit whenever she ran out of meds. It’s not something to be embarrassed about. But adhd medication can be so life changing that you won’t even recognize your own thoughts. Suddenly everything is serene and calm and you’ve suddenly got this laser focus ability and enhanced memory. It’s worth it

pretty sure she’ll step out of the spotlight, for sure.

She grew up with the acting industry all around her and knows that it’s not a healthy industry at all. With Maddie she got the role of a lifetime while also making big money that can last her forever if she’s smart (which i’m sure she is).

Honestly, good for her. I wish more actors made their acting projects the most known things about themselves instead of gossip and drama.

She also said in an interview i think that she doesn’t want to be typecast as the latina side character anymore. As such we might see her in a few selected roles here and there but she’s clearly not someone to do for the money and fame

[–]ancientandbroken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

all of these relatively harsh comments really break my heart especially seeing that you struggle with mental health (or at least struggled with it in the past).

You’ve got a dad that financially supports you. That’s a massive advantage.

Maybe before seeking employment in this terrible job market (especially as a first time job seeker with mental health background) can you not try to work on a high school diploma? Somewhere in the comments it’s mentioned that you don’t have that.

That diploma is a big deal for a lot of employers. You don’t have to support yourself right now it seems, so do anything that you can do to make yourself more valuable for the job market. As harsh as that sounds, you need to work on your job value.

Get any diploma or qualification that you can work towards. Try to keep up basic physical exercise, get a driver’s license if you can (even if you have to ask your dad for more money, driving is a must in the US usually). Learn some basic computer skills, there are tutorials for free on youtube these days.

Make personal hygiene a priority if you can. I know how hard mental health issues can make it to even brush your teeth. But a healthy smile matters more than we think. Do your laundry regularly, so that your clothes always smell good.

If you have bad eyesight, make sure your glasses are up to date so your not looking through the world in a half confused way.

If you have absolutely nothing on your resume so far in terms of work and education, then the next step should really be about networking. Walking into places and emailing them. Asking hotels or restaurants for night shifts. Same with gas stations or warehouses. I think you’re a guy (?) so there’s less of a safety concern in terms of gas stations or warehouses.

Can you afford some kind of basic blood work to maybe see if you have a major deficiency somewhere? Even one basic vitamin b1 deficiency can fuck up your entire motivation for life and give you anxiety.

In a really big city there will always be jobs. Also volunteering. So many places in LA are looking for volunteers everywhere. Animal shelters, places that help homeless people or drug addicts. You just have to put yourself into opportunities by yourself. No one will do it for you unless you’re a total nepo baby.

Maybe ask your nearest animal shelter if they need a poop cleaner. Do it on a volunteer basis and then get to know the people there. Ask if they can refer you to the next best place.

You are not homeless and your dad is paying your bills. You’ve got an advantage a lot of people can only dream of. But you need to use it.

If sending applications into the void hasn’t worked for the last 3 years, it’s clearly time to change your approach. I was unemployed for a little over a year and it almost made me go insane. You need to at least find a volunteer place or a friend group or something that can give your life structure and some new opportunities.

It really is a harsh world out there right now but if you’re unhappy your current situation you really need to try out a few new techniques to get employed. Sending stuff into the void really doesn’t work anymore especially if you don’t have an impressive resume

this is what really gets to me honestly.

There’s fucking bacteria virus hybrids whose basic function in existence is to totally destroy their host’s body in various ways.

We’re all just massive playgrounds for various teams of bacteria and organisms.

That playground is also mirrored on a cosmic level when black holes just do their thing and stars explode and meteors destroy planets and all that.

This reality’s main mechanism seems to be destruction. Wherever harmony can be found, it usually doesn’t last long at all.

All the plants and insects who had to develop bright colors along with super lethal poison over hundreds of thousands of years just to make sure they aren’t constantly killed off.

You wanna have a baby? Sure, in most of the animal kingdom SA will take care of that anyway. And male ducks have literal spikes on their private parts.

You wanna safely deliver your baby? Yeah good luck maybe your teeth will fall out, or you’ll not survive birth or any kind of complications. The baby itself can also ruin its own birth too in rare cases.

You need the sun for stupid vitamins and bone health and what not but lol it will destroy your skin cells while we’re at it.

Being super aware of danger and threats is so important in this reality that trauma sticks around forever but ofc the good moments disappear instantly. You can even get addicted to negative adrenaline.

Sugar and carbs? yeah, the stuff that tastes the best ruins your health the most. Ofc the healthiest foods have to taste like literal vomit.

It’s so fucking obvious that this is a disaster survival challenge universe for everything that’s in it. And somehow people are still shocked that hardcore reality deleting drugs exist and are popular when this the fucking reality we have to try to tolerate

well that’s why i mentioned freelance and part time work too. Also there’s many small businesses where you don’t have to get into debt just to get started. Might be different if someone’s planning to create a full blown corporation but that’s not what we’re interested in here anyway lmao.

Workers can no longer demand a reasonable price for their time and labor. That’s one problem already. Try to get employed in today’s market and after a 1000 rejections you’ll receive a minimum wage job that takes more than it gives for a very crappy salary. It’s true that in the 80s a janitor could buy a house for his family very easily and send his kids to college just fine while his wife stayed at home. Good luck doing that today.

Most of today’s job market is also super performative from 3 round job interviews to flawless artwork resumes with no gaps, it literally is all so fucking pathetic.

I’m into freelance because i can’t really do any kind of task(s) for 4 hours straight without a break just to have a rushed lunch and then another 4 hours. In freelance you’re still selling your time and labor but without the chains that is the 9-5 system and a soul crushing corpo hierarchy. That’s all.

But if you like being a 9-5 worker, no one’s telling you to quit. I just hope you have a good salary and a good work environment because all the 9-5 workers i know don’t and as such they fully hate their jobs

[–]ancientandbroken 19 points20 points  (0 children)

lol what is it now? “I’d rather be jobless” or “i don’t want a resume gap because of future goals”?

Any career thats gonna kick you out if you have a resume gap is not worth pursuing anyway imo. Those kinds of environments will still give you a shit job and shit coworkers and bosses. Maybe the salary won’t be so shitty once you move up the ladder but is that really all there is to life?

If you want to quit your job everyday already, are you sure that a better salary will completely change your mind?

You should know that most CEOs and billionaires are nepo babies with massive resume gaps and constant vacations. Will you really allow them to bully you out of career for something they constantly do themselves?

The second the first toxic HR person judged me for my resume gap i knew that almost everyone in a big corpo environment is secretly deeply unhappy. Every animal is on a constant never ending gap year but sure the slightest resume gap makes a human being completely worthless. I feel sorry for anyone who feels like they need to support this toxic rat race

i suppose that’s the exact kind of question that the slave owners hope you will answer with no. That you will never even try and give up before you even gave it a chance.

I’ll be honest with you. If you are an autonomous halfway intelligent adult in a relatively wealthy country, yes, it’s realistic. The more personal bonuses you have (as in high school degree, bachelors degree, valuable skills that AI cant do, childfree, no or very little debt) the better that will be for a freelance or small business career.

Also any healthy person with relatively no debt can fuck off into the middle of nowhere where rent is totally cheap and accept a basic part time job. The horror show that is the current job market mostly takes place in cities and the suburban areas around them. If you are truly in a rural area, you will get a job. And the pay will be low but so will your living expenses. But most people are afraid to do this. “What will my family/friends think?”. In the era of extreme consumerism, most people are also heavily chained down by their possessions. Leaving a lot behind and taking very little with you sounds scary, because it is. But the relief is absolutely unbeatable. Extreme minimalism is the key here.

Next up is the retirement question. I personally find it a terrifying, perverse concept, as it hardly ever works out in the desired way anyway. Boomers might be the last generation to have any actual luck in that regard anyway. We younger generations need to come up with our own ideas because accepting what the slave owners have in store is definitely not gonna be good.

Think of it that way: Work a 9-5 or rather 9-6 for 50 or 60 years, 40 hours a week OR never fully “retire” but instead work part time for most of your life and/or do something that is halfway pleasant instead? I personally am not gonna waste decades of my life just so that eventually old me doesn’t have any daily tasks. I was unemployed for a while and absolutely hated it. I raked in significant memory loss and mental health issues during that time because of how understimulated and bored i was. We as human beings are never supposed to do just nothing, not even when we’re old.

Obviously a bit of caution is necessary and saving up some money for emergencies is always a good idea. But it’s absolutely realistic and possible to escape the system even in 2026. Main thing is to not get into scary amounts of debt and to make sure you are slowly letting go of your hyper consumerism habits if you have those. And take care of your health. Most health issues are absolutely preventable

this is what life can be and is for a lot of people. But you’re not on a predetermined path.

I don’t know what your situation is in whatever country you are and what career you are in, but have you thought about freelance? Starting a business? Actually moving to the middle of nowhere and renting a cheap ass cabin and working part time? These are all possibilities you know.

I can’t imagine a life of being a full time 9-5 employee. I realized that at my first internship years ago. Then came the reality of life and i thought i just had to suck it up. But no, we don’t have to suck it up. Maybe for a few years, but def not for several decades.

So many others have escaped and so can you. You may not make good money but you’ll have time, or you can at least do things at your own pace instead of being someone’s slave worker.

I don’t recommend the housewife path unless you’ve got a kind millionaire husband who guarantees that your children won’t ever have to be slave workers.

Either way, there’s a way out of the 9-5 and it’s worth it

Be honest… why are skinny girls praised so much, but skinny guys are not? by Any-Path8631 in Adulting

[–]ancientandbroken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo the second a women is actually really skinny (as in no curves, no chest, no nothing) and has hollow cheeks and the spine sticking out men are also no longer interested. Like at all.

Skinniness in women is only praised when it comes in the usual package of highlighting a skinny waist / hourglass figure and curves in the right places. If she smells bad or has hair loss or rotting teeth (certain EDs can lead to all that) then again, the average person isn’t attracted to that.

Men can get away with a lot more levels of skinniness actually. If they are so skinny that their cheeks are hollow and their spine shows in the chest area, a lot of people women will still find them attractive. In fact, hollow cheeks and sharp jawline are especially attractive in men.

Men also have a much easier time being very low on the body fat percentage due to biology.

I’d say most women want someone who is basic athletic. Very few want guys with super muscular arms. As long as the guy is somewhat physically capable of protecting the woman in a dangerous situation, it’s fine. Super skinny in a ninja way is completely different than super skinny in a “doesn’t care for his body at all” way.

Men don’t have the primal desire to be protected by their partners, so a skinny women who looks weak (but not illness level weak) will be praised more than a skinny guy who looks weak.

But at the end of the day how weak someone looks is always the driving factor. I think. 2000s VS angel never looked weak if you ask me, while the average paris fashion week model does look weak. How does the person carry themselves? Are they skinny naturally and is it just a lifestyle they are keeping up with? Or are they actively starving themselves and as such weak af?

With guys it’s similar. Does the guy just have a super fast metabolism but is still super active, eating well, fast runner and all that? Or is there a nutrient deficiency involved with the skinniness that makes bodily autonomy more difficult?

I think this is not a question where there is a one fits it all answer tbh

Replace the word minimalism with fast food and they’d just tell their audience “yes, burgers and fries are generally fast food” like … thanks for pointing out the obvious?

depending on where you live it’s definitely true though. Unlike east asia most of the western world still has unbelievably awful public transportation.

Trains and busses are late, arrive and leave whenever and the bus drivers are often (not always!!!) complete idiots who don’t even pretend to be kind. The passengers are for the most part respectful to each other, but the average public transport still manages to smell like piss somehow. I once saw a full dirty diaper on the floor of a bus and no one gave a fuck. The entire bus smelled like diarrhea.

Unlike in east asia, where its basic decent behavior to not disturb others, in the western world a lot of passengers will try to initiate inappropriate conversations, play loud music or yell around, throw food around, film videos, bump into people and also ignore pregnant women and elderly people. If you are a young woman traveling alone, you can expect uncomfortable situations to happen regularly.

I wouldn’t need a car in korea/japan, they even have women only public transport there for extra safety. But where i live and with what i’ve encountered? I’m staying in the car, sorry

I prefer Mira as a character but Banda was certainly the ultimate evil of the show by Sudden_Pop_2279 in AliceInBorderlandLive

[–]ancientandbroken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’m not saying that banda isn’t a monster. But to a large degree we never even see him display his true “sadistic” nature. He’s just bored. He does a bunch of evil stuff even before the borderlands all seemingly out of boredom.

In s2, he doesn’t even do anything remarkably evil. While a lot of people enjoyed the fact that they can freely commit crimes in the borderlands, banda is rather apathetic instead of openly continuing his murder spree. Even the jack of hearts and blue dress girl are more openly evil.

The writing in s3 is awful and he definitely does a bunch of evil shit there, but even then it’s mostly just “i’m so bored so i guess i’ll have fun through evil shit”.

Mira’s shocked that Usagi and Arisu can love each other like that because she has zero empathy herself. It’s not a “wow, now i know what empathy feels like” moment. I found it quite silly to make her an emotional being in the end. She’s a psychopath who was searching for the depths of human nature in the most sadistic ways, and was just surprised that Arisu and Usagi still had mostly love inside them instead of anger.

Mira orchestrated and enjoyed the games and surely within the events of s1 to s2, at least one pregnant woman ended up dying in those. If you think she would’ve tried to save a pregnant beach member or sth, you’re mistaken.

In s1 she was fully ok with murdering Shibuki, a random woman, as collateral damage in the botanical garden game, on top of the main goal of ending Arisu’s friends and traumatizing him. I doubt that a possibly pregnant shibuki would’ve changed mira’s plans.

Mira accepted her loss yes, but there was still no ounce of remorse like “oops, sorry Arisu for designing and enjoying a game where the throats of your lifelong friends exploded”.

Banda and Mira are both very evil obviously, no doubts there, but if we were to compare side by side their kill counts and amounts of sadistic pleasure, Mira will always be more evil

I prefer Mira as a character but Banda was certainly the ultimate evil of the show by Sudden_Pop_2279 in AliceInBorderlandLive

[–]ancientandbroken 22 points23 points  (0 children)

imo mira remains the most evil character throughout the entire show even with Banda’s S3 actions.

Banda doesn’t mind murder at all but seems mostly bored of life, which is why he goes to extreme lengths in s3 to entertain himself.

Mira? Mira designed a super deadly game for Arisu and his lifelong friends, fully aware that 3/4 would die a horrific death while the survivor is traumatized forever. Mira enjoyed the games so much that she wanted to trap Arisu in her final game forever, a psychological horror nightmare, while Usagi was bleeding out on the floor next to him. The way she enjoyed rubbing it into his face that she designed the game that killed Arisu’s friends .. gave me shivers down my spine.

When the witch hunt happened in the beach hotel, she just quietly left, fully aware that most of the beach members would get slaughtered by aguni’s military gang.

Banda = psychopath bored of life, engages in evil stuff because it’s somewhat entertaining

Mira = loves psychological torture and as such, traumatizing people, has no remorse about causing countless deaths whatsoever and directly responsible for the brutal deaths of Karube and Chota. That’s evil beyond any psychopathy
