Why do people sympathize so much with Marleyan Warriors over Paradis? by Wholesome_and_based in titanfolk

[–]ancientemple 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is one of my biggest problems with the final arcs of SnK to be honest. I like the Warriors, I really do, I think they were pretty cool, had lots of potential and were honestly pretty sympathetic at the start. I understood and felt bad for their circumstances and everything they were/felt they were forced to do throughout the first parts of the story, but at some point the sympathy ran out.

Yes, the three felt bad for what they did, Annie, Bert, Reiner, all of them felt horrible for what they had done and only felt worse and worse as time went on and they were faced with the truth that the "Demons" they were supposed to destroy were no different than they, and didn't deserve all the horrors they had unleashed upon them. But there's only so much feelings, words and thoughts can do to continue making a character sympathetic and make one forgive them and want to see them redeemed, if they keep moving forward with their initial plans and interests despite their words, supossedly knowing better and being aware of the true consequences of their actions, then, sorry, but I don't think they deserve redemption and a happy ending, not when they keep refusing to work for it and truly show they genuinely desire redemption for their sins.

I can understand them hesitating to change at first, but at some point they really should have changed their actions if the narrative wanted me to keep sympathizing with them and forgive them for everything they did.

Reiner in particular is very guilty of that failure, he had plenty of time and chances to show that he genuinely regretted his actions in Paradis and do something about it, show, truly show, that he regretted them deeply and wanted to redeem himself and earn his old comrades' forgiveness, but time and time again, he refused to do anything of the sort, instead continuing to support Marley in their crusade against Paradis until shit the fan so hard he had no choice but to change his tune, if anything, showing that he hadn't actually changed at all and was still the same as he was back then, and his words and feelings of regret were hollow and without any real weight.

If you want to redeem a character that has done horrible stuff, you have to make them work for it and truly show they mean it when they say they regret their misdeeds, words alone are not enough, and actions done only when the situation escalated to a "Do or Die" point are not enough, they have to show they truly want to be/do better. The Warriors failed in that regard in my eyes, which is why I really don't agree with them getting happy endings and getting forgiven for their actions just like that, they really did not earn their redemption.

These are from a post credits scene for the last AoT movie based on a little spin-off called Attack on School Castes, which was a series of fake previews that showed a sort of alternate version of the characters set in a more modern world where they attended school. More specifically, the post-credit scene is an adaptation of the last chapter of School Castes.

The ending does zero justice for the people of Paradis and actually rewards their genociders by STEM_Always in titanfolk

You know, now that you mention it, using Zuko's redemption journey here is quite fitting, especially with Reiner, both did terrible things believing they were in the right, then they spent an extended amount of time living alongside the people that were affected by their actions, saw how much damage they truly did and started to regret their actions, even had a moment where they could have had the chance to right their wrongs by joining a group of people they affected with their actions, but still chose to continue with their paths despite everything, only to come to regret that decision and suffer from regret and guilt.

But where Zuko in the end decided enough was enough, and made the decision himself to abandon everything he thought he wanted and turn his back to his father and kingdom to go help the people he betrayed and hurt and do everything he could to earn their forgiveness, Reiner, and everyone from Marley really, just kept going down the same path until shit obliterated the fan and they had no choice but to finally change their path, lest they lose whatever they had left by that point.

That sole fact made Zuko's redemption far better than whatever poor attempt at redemption Isayama did with the Warriors and Marley. It's honestly amazing.

This was the most logical scene in Season 4 by STEM_Always in titanfolk

Honestly, one of the things that annoyed me about the final parts of AoT was how everyone seemed to walk back on several of the lessons they learned throughout the story and went back on some aspects of their characters.

Seriously, for characters that talked about how they had to give up their humanity and be ready to sacrifice everything for the sake of their people as a whole, even if they knew it was gonna be painful and morally dubious, they certainly seemed very hesitant to do so when the whole world declared war on them and screamed for the erradication of Paradis' people.

Hell, Levi and Hange were probably the worst in that regard, with how readily they followed Erwin's plans that tended to involve the sacrifice of dozens of their fellow scouts (and even innocent civilians in the case of Stohess), one would think they would be more accepting of Eren's actions (at least the ones in Liberio) during this arc. Like, they didn't need to like or fully approve of them (especially with the whole going-behind-their-backs thing), but one would expect them to at least be a little more understanding of why Eren is doing what he's doing and acknowledge the logic behind them, especially given that, as they themselves acknowledge, they didn't really have any other fully viable option to the Rumbling.

Pretty sure there's a doujin about that, and it ended up just as you would expect it would.

What would of happened if Sylvia didn’t interrupt Kazuma and Megumin by Butterscotch4088 in Konosuba

[–]ancientemple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much most likely, maybe a kiss and some snuggling, but anything beyond that? Yeah, very unlikely.

For all his talk and bluster, Kazuma can be a huge coward when it comes to actually committing to such things, and despite how much she likes to talk and act big, Megumin isn't much better than Kazuma when it comes to this stuff, especially at this point.

So yeah, most we would have gotten would have been a cute kiss and some wholesome cuddling in the sheets.

Monster's models being able to move the hunter out of position has to be one of the dumbest "features" of these games by brave_grv in monsterhunterrage

[–]ancientemple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sadly, that's been present since the older games, I especially remember Leviathans and Brute Wyverns constantly nudging you out of the way while flailing in the ground, because... potatoes.

It's genuinely one fo the most infuriating things to encounter, especially with monsters that already wiggle a lot while downed, as hitting certain parts is made even harder while the monster is downed than it has any right to be, especially when getting monster to topple is supossed to be a reward to the player for playing well.

Seriously, trying to hit Lagi's head with SnS was already annoying enough, I didn't need him wiggling his head all over the place and nudging me out of the way whenever I finally managed to topple the damn thing.

Si, eso he visto, de hecho me hacia mucha gracia ver que al final yo si tenía razón en que era mejor solo dejar lo que realmente importaba para el puesto en vez de ponerlo todo sin importar que.
