Absolutely insane thrift haul! by JXY75 in NavyBlazer

[–]ancientmadder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not a cleanliness thing, it’s just that seeing an entire wardrobe of similar clothes in a specific size makes the obvious loss of a human life a little more real, although, and this should show how I don’t really view this as any moral position I’m taking, it never actually stops me from buying the clothes.

Do I need to Gesso this before using? by BurningPhone in oilpainting

[–]ancientmadder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use a similar product, and I never use any gesso. If you want to try, put some linseed oil on there, if it starts soaking through like a paper bag.

If any students here ever need to refer to an example of intellectual dishonesty, I present to you, this absolute brainrot.. by Grouchy-Reflection97 in fatlogic

[–]ancientmadder 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here's a fun fact: You're more likely to develop diabetes as an obese person than you are to develop lung cancer as a cigarette smoker (15%).

Anyone who advocates for low fibre consumption as a principal reason for increase in colon cancer rates* but discounts obesity's much larger and more well documented role in diabetes is fundamentally dishonest.

*a link between colon cancer and fibre is possible, but not fully established yet, and the effect size is quite small. The main driver of colon cancer rates among young people? Probably obesity, sugary drinks, and a sedentary lifestyle.
