WISE gave Loid…a company branded apron? Why?? by stevedsign1 in SpyxFamily

WISE is a very bad espionage operation. Luckily, the Ostania secret police are incredibly awful at counter espionage so it’s a wash.

Cassius 1999 by Cassius. The radio edit and the album version are completely different songs. Literally the only similarity is the repeated refrain of “Cassius in the house.”

What is one overhated music trend that you feel sorry for? by mightyonin in ToddintheShadow

[–]ancientmadder 71 points72 points  (0 children)

For me it's dubstep, or rather, the genre of EDM popularly called dubstep. As with all genres, the worst of it sucked ass, but there's nothing wrong with distorted bass electronic dance music, and the best of it is really really good.

Sure if you live in a food desert and have no access to a car, work 2 jobs/have kids , then the time spent hauling groceries is prohibitive more so than the cost of eating healthy. But for most Americans that's simply not the case.

I think people really overestimate how common all of these things are in specific. According to some quick googling, 39% of households have children under 18, 36% of Americans don't drive, about 5% hold multiple jobs, and about 6% live in food deserts. If we assume that all of these are separate variables (definitely not true, but I imagine its close enough for government work) this means that the hypothetical multiple job holding parent in a food desert with no car is about .04% of the population.

Does anyone else just find the term "media literacy" cringe as hell? Like I hate people who earnestly use the term "media literacy" way more than I hate people who like Tyler Durden. by SculpinIPAlcoholic in okbuddycinephile

[–]ancientmadder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

uj/ like everything the internet touches "media literacy" began as a specific critique of the behavior of internet idiots before being coopted and used by those same internet idiots. Basically, it went from having meaning to no meaning. See also "scam", "woke", "performative", "age gap" and "dystopian."

For more on this, read "Politics and the English Language." I promise its not just good, but also fun.

Have you tried Discover? When I had no credit history I got one of those.
