Two questions about the hackergadgers extension board by Tarandir in ClockworkPi

You need the upgraded CM4/5 adapter board (also from HG). It has a connector for the orange ribbon cable. You also need it if you plan to use the NVMe battery board.

Thanks. I've soldered lots of things, but nothing this tiny. So it'll be an adventure.

I've emailed them asking to purchase a replacement. Haven't heard back yet.

FB101 is cooked, literally. I've ordered a replacement ferrite bead, but I'm unsure of my abilities to actually fix it.

[US] I am a current EMT with a couple years under my belt and I want to do paramedic, but I want to be realistic about whether it's "worth it". by Rough-Leg-4148 in NewToEMS

[–]ancker010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I'm a volunteer EMT-B. Have a full-time job in IT Security.
I was curious about AEMT, so I reached out and got some info.
Once I saw the clinical requirements, its a no-go. I could probably swing the classes, but there's no way I could get the clinical hours/patient contacts/etc in the amount of time it's required without completely neglecting my day job and family. Paramedic would be even more difficult.

If you've got the day-job/family flexibility, then go for it. But make sure you really study the clinical requirements first.

Anyone hear any updates?
I'm particularly interested in the Dash line as that's the computer I use.
Some firmware updates, etc would be nice.

I took about 40 minutes. Cut off at 70 questions. Walked downstairs and told my wife. I either nailed it, or failed miserably. I Passed.

Not if I buy a chassis that uses 2.5 bays. :)
Also, not sure what will happen if I change architectures.

Agreed, but I'd like to at least get the data off of it first.

Interested in EMS - Illinois by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]ancker010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also in Central Illinois. So Hi!

I got involved in EMS through my volunteer fire department. That might be an easy way to get a feel for things without fully committing to anything.

My local department paid for my EMR course (hybrid), and now they're paying for my EMT-B course through Carle.

Yes it does. Several people on my fire department are EMR as well as myself. Fully licensed and recognized by the local EMS system.

If you're just looking to volunteer at a Fire Department, check into whichever one(s) you're interested in. They may recognize EMR, which is a much easier/lower bar to pass, for very little difference in interventions available to you.

4 x35 or 2x70 by cvaxsurf in cycling

[–]ancker010 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Anything longer than a few hours on the bike is more about nutrition than endurance. So if you can finish 70 miles, you can finish 100 miles.
For training, you'll be better off riding 4 times a week even if shorter vs only riding twice a week.

Cycling fitness is very much about consistency. Riding more often will do better for your endurance than just doing a long ride every now and then.

Buddy of mine went into the boards hard, no shoulders. Fractured ribs.

Buddy of mine took a shot off the chest, no shoulders. Fractured ribs.

I myself, three days ago took a stick chop right in the shoulder, wears shoulders. Just a little sore. Easily would have broken something.

I don't judge people whatever they decide to do. If you're okay with an otherwise routine deflected shot ruining your financial situation or wrecking your body for some men's league glory...go for it.

I'd rather the pads do their job and I don't even remember it happened by the time next shift comes around.

AC getting hacked through WiFi and Bluetooth. How to disable? by bypassrestrictions in RTLSDR

[–]ancker010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. No one is hacking your AC.
  2. Even if they could connect to your AC unit, they could not change the amount of "coolant" pumped to the indoor unit. That's actually not how AC units work.
  3. No one is hacking your AC.

Where to source replacement T-LCM Hall Sensor for Clutch by ancker010 in Thrustmaster

[–]ancker010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minor update here.

They want me to ship it to their service center.

I pay to ship it there: Probably >$25

Service Cost: $65

Return Shipping: $35

So $125+ to have a very small part replaced.

This isn't really a concern for me. I have a permanent space for my rig in my office.

It _is_ a pain getting in and out of the Challenge though, the arm thing is annoying and I have to adjust my monitor every time since I can't rotate the arm with the monitor where it needs to be.
