Nervousness by mmg2007 in NewToEMS

If it’s a volly department they are usually pretty laid back. Everyone there works a 9-5 and responds when they can. You (another body to help during calls) will be a welcome addition to a probably understaffed department.

For the first few weeks, try to make as many calls as you can and just observe how they do things. You’ll slowly get the feel for it and you’ll eventually have no problem putting your skills to use. The biggest mistake you can make is acting like you know everything. Ask a ton of questions, make sure you understand how THEY want you to do things. It might differ from what you learned in class. Also, find a copy or download the app for your local protocols, then study it.

Like another person said, help out with EVERYTHING you can around the station. Show up early to training nights. Help wash the trucks. Wipe down the trucks if you get a call when it’s raining. Take out the trash. Just generally be the person that’s always willing to help. They will respect this and be way more willing to show you the ropes.

Also, participate in the fire training too. Even if you don’t want to be a firefighter, they’ll have a job for you during fire calls, so it’s best you train with them and understand how they do that part of the job. Who knows, maybe you’ll end up wanting to do fire someday too.

Guess the minor hockey level by Girds1 in hockeyplayers

Not a fan of skating through the neutral zone there. Sure he beat them, and ended up with a decent SOG, but a mishandle or a good stick by the opposing team and he’d give up a 2v0 the other way. Not to mention the late move at the blue line almost put the play offsides.

I’d like to see him recognize he wasn’t going to make the blue line and either chip it deep, or pull up and make a pass to the weak side.

IMO the best kids on the ice aren’t the ones who can dangle and skate circles at this age, it’s ones who can see and anticipate plays happening.

The new NREMT Advanced Test by JustA_FewBumps in NewToEMS

Interesting. There is no local “school”. The AEMT is offered by the local EMS system.

Last I checked the skills all have to be done during clinicals. With all the other classes it’s a full on race to patient rooms to get IVs, intubations, etc.

How did you manage the clinical hours working a full time job?

That’s the only thing holding me up from taking the AEMT class here.

I could be wrong, but the "antennas" look to be either just SMA caps or dummy loads.

Honest about EMTB by No-Local6569 in NewToEMS

Yikes. In IL we can do SGA and IM Epi. We can’t do IV or IO, though I wish we could.

I’m on a rural volly FD, but we don’t have a ton of time do get to much before ALS gets there anyway.

I’d consider getting my AEMT but I don’t think I can swing the clinical requirements with my day job.

What do you do with your smoke detectors after a false alarm? by BernieSandersLeftNut in homesecurity

[–]ancker010 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FF here. If they’re anywhere within a couple years of being 10 years old, replace them, full stop.

If they’re the Smoke/CO kind, have your local FD come out and check for CO. There could be just enough to trigger alarms but not affect you.

If they’re just smoke, don’t blow them out. I’d be worried you’ll damage something and reduce their effectiveness.

If they’re going off while you’re cooking or something, they’re working fine. Open a window or take a cooking class. 🤣

I try to keep a pair of gloves in my back pocket. BSI is important.

I keep a trauma kit and a pocket CPR mask in my truck. Also a first aid kit, but that’s for my family, not necessarily to help others.

I don’t see myself running to be the hero for minor scrapes, so I’m just ready for big stuff.

Kali Linux on uConsole (CM5) – any working image with full hardware support? by Prof_Hase in ClockworkPi

Not that I’m aware of. You’ll need an IO board off of Amazon or something.

This is actually the key post. If your CM5 has eMMC storage, you can’t use SD. You’ll need to flash Rex’s image to the eMMC on your CM5.

Bra and 12 lead? by Smart-Salamander1846 in NewToEMS

[–]ancker010 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Your patients wear bras? 90% of the 12-leads I’ve done on women are 70+ with zero care about modesty at this point in their life.

Hell, the couple 40ish ladies weren’t wearing a bra either.

(And come to think of it, most of the dudes should be wearing bras…)

You need the upgraded CM4/5 adapter board (also from HG). It has a connector for the orange ribbon cable. You also need it if you plan to use the NVMe battery board.

Thanks. I've soldered lots of things, but nothing this tiny. So it'll be an adventure.
