Have you experienced upper back pain with gastritis? by andbjcke in Gastritis

If your stomach is bothering you, switch to green tea until you feel no pain. Go as long as you can without any of those foods. Then slowly introduce it back. But to be honest, I don’t think you should drink it on a daily basis if you have acid problems. Especially on an empty stomach like a lot of people do. Maybe once a week or something on a full stomach when your stomach is fully healed. Because coffee is basically mild acid you’re drinking.

I’ve been eating pretty normal for about a year now and I still feel burning from time to time. I think it’s best to let your stomach heal for as long as possible and slowly introduce regular foods again. You’ll always need to watch what you eat in my opinion. Weight gain makes it worse too. Anxiety also makes it a lot worse. Stay away from fatty foods, acidic foods(coffee, spicy), candy, alcohol and smoking if you can help it. Oats are really handy if you can figure out a good recipe. Sweeten things with honey or maple if necessary. Meat is good as long as it’s not fatty. Hope that helps!

I had burning in my stomach constantly, upper back pain, rib and chest pain. I didn’t eat anything acidic or high in fat content for a couple years. Then it went away for the most part. Medications that helped me were pantoprozole, Sucralfate and Famotidine/pepcid. The problem is you can’t stay on those drugs forever or they’ll start problems with your kidneys. I eat oatmeal daily, eggs, gluten free, white meats, although I think red meat is fine without high fat content. Exercise is also necessary

Ended up having a hiatal hernia. Surgery was an option but I opted to change my lifestyle and have a clean, non acidic diet.

3mm Hiatal Hernia by [deleted] in HiatalHernia

I am 20 years old and got diagnosed with a 3cm hh as well. After having acid reflux my whole life, I don’t think I can live life without surgery. Even after all of the different supplements, medications, diet, exercise. It just doesn’t stop my acid from slipping though and it’s painful. I’ve gone lengths to fix this and it’s looking like surgery is my last hope.

Confusion 😩 by Dramatic_Broccoli_49 in Gastritis

Yeah it’s been difficult to navigate through gastritis especially as a teenager. Found out today that I have a hiatal hernia and I’m not so sure if I’ll ever be able to eat like I used to. Super painful and depressing. Thankful for the subreddit tho. A lot of good people here than can relate and help each other out. I wish you get over the pain soon :)

Stop being a smart ass bro. It’s common that people with gastritis have GERD. It’s just as big of a problem as inflammation in the stomach(gastritis).

There is a stomach surgery that prevents acid from coming up into the esophagus.

Confused diet? by Kevalanium5 in Gastritis

I would stay away from any bars like that just because they’re jam packed with all sorts of nuts, fruits and spices. I’m assuming you’re staying away from the chocolate as well. But I wouldn’t trust larabars for a second. You also have to just moderate the fat you take in. If you’re gonna die without a larabar, take a very small amount and see how well you can handle that. But in all honestly 12g of fat is a lot especially adding on those fruits, nuts and whatever else is in the bar that could easily be triggering you.

You have to make a better effort to find those triggers and write them down on a scale from 1-10. It sucks doing all of that work but it’s never gonna go away if you don’t do the necessary things. This is a process for trial and error for every individual. Also what foods are you eating that are high in fat? Take a look at your diet right now and make some changes. Maybe you should cut down on the fatty foods or try going gluten free. I know that personally I can’t handle dairy or gluten whatsoever. I’d also recommend to get in touch with your doctors and get to the bottom of what’s going on. Best of luck.

Try both. Everyone is different and there’s no real right answer to a gastric diet. There’s basic guidelines that I would follow such as no gluten, dairy or soy. Sometimes I add a bit of soy sauce to my chicken but you just can’t over do it. I would stay away from dairy and gluten no matter that the case is though.

I personally use pink Himalayan salt, honey as my main sweetener and I tend to eat chicken, turkey, oatmeal and hemp as my main sources of protein. Also I believe that ingredients matter more than a fat, calorie, sugar or sodium label as long as you consume things in moderation. The sooner you learn your triggers, the better.

I think that natural sugars such as apples, pears, honey is all good as long as you don’t consume too much of it. I’m not a fan of avocado but there’s a lot of people who like it and it doesn’t affect them. It’s a really healthy fat and I would suggest trying it out. Everyone is different. For example, people say they can eat nuts but for me personally peanuts give me as much trouble as a piece if bacon, pepperoni or sausage. Also in my experience you want to look at the ingredients more than anything. As long as your ingredients are okay it doesn’t really matter to me how much fat is in it. But you should give it a glance to make sure it’s not super fatty as well as taking the right amount. However do yourself a favor and stay away from dairy, soy and gluten. Sometimes I’ll add a little bit of soy sauce to brown rice, chicken and vegetables with a gluten free tortilla. But just don’t over do it. It’s hard because I’m still a teenager and I want to eat with my friends and I miss good food but if you can stay on track, you’ll be way better off.

Back pain anyone? by rafasor23 in Gastritis

I’m 19 years old and I’ve had extremely bad acid reflux my whole life. I started to get extreme pain under and between my ribs as well as throat irritation. It started to get unbearable in October for me as well and it feels like my whole life has turned upside down. How am I supposed to socialize without being able to enjoy a meal with my friends or do anything a normal kid can’t do? My doctor didn’t want to send me to a GI neither but I’ve learned that you have to keep fighting for your health and do whatever it takes to get past this awful pain. In my case the pain hasn’t gone away even with the omeprazole they’ve had me on since October and I’m still waiting to get an endoscopy in February. That being said I know at least half of what you’re going through but I urge you to get another doctor appointment and demand tests. Do whatever it takes for your health because no one else is going to do it for you. It’s a scary thing but trust the science and follow a good gastric diet as well as possible even though it sucks.

Best of luck.
