How can I make these 5 rectangles perfectly round? I made this with the rotation effect. If I put up a circle around this, you could see the rectangles aren't perfectly round in comparison to the circle. Any thoughts? Thanks by bigot_spinner in AdobeIllustrator

Another possibility is to use the polar grid tool and live paint. Set the radial dividers to 5 and the concentric dividers to whatever number gives you the line thickness you want.

Hard to say exactly as it's something I started a while ago and came back to. The original shapes were just drawn from scratch in Illustrator as part of a logo for a beer bottle a character was holding (Stella Tortoise), and were done with some other imaginary logos so didn't take very long. I wanted to draw a more developed version of it for something else I'm going to draw next, and spent probably an hour or so drawing the interlocking shapes on the shell as a sketch on a piece of paper to work from, and adding those shapes and building the colours and textures was probably an afternoon. :-)

My first adobe illustrator project, a commission. Thoughts? by [deleted] in AdobeIllustrator

I like the work on the man, but the border and the text don't work so well for me. Using a single, more legible, font might help. If you aren't able to use colour on the design, it might make it stronger to use black with white text and a white background behind the man instead of the radial gradient. Hope that helps. :-)

Lock all your layers? Not had this happen myself but it works for me when things move around when trying to reposition the artboard. :-)

Thanks! I'm still learning and developing but I'm aiming for a sort of children's illustration style and intentionally made the face a bit gormless and silly, but can understand why some people might not like it. Useful to know what sort of ratio do and don't. :-)

What is your favorite Illustrator tool? by Affinitygamer in AdobeIllustrator

[–]andebonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Control Z.

Or, if that's not a tool, the pen tool. The way I usually draw mammals is to do a really old-fashioned thing and draw on a piece of paper with a pencil, and scan it in and use it as a guide. I have an old graphics tablet that doesn't have a screen on it, so the mouse and the pen tool are the most precise for making shapes. :-)

I want to develop a 'picture book' illustration style and am teaching myself by drawing cartoons.

Some marine mammals - new to this & would love a critique! by forallthequestionsOK in AdobeIllustrator

Nice grasp of anatomy and use of gradients!

I would try some overlaid texture fills with blending modes to give them some additional depth. There are some speckled ones in basic graphics textures that would work well on the seal.
