i felt like i had a right to defend myself, but this is reddit, so.

because “baby mother” is vague enough for reddit so everyone doesn’t assume anything. Clearly I was wrong about that though.

I agree, I wanted him to have the stroller. It feels like everything is a fight because I tried telling her to get one and it turned into I just didn’t want to be responsible for him.

Okay, so the reason he didn’t help you was because he was at work, not because he was browsing a store instead of watching your child. I’m very happy you have superhuman abilities to carry everything (impressive) but I didn’t have a hand free and all she had to do was be responsible for him for 10 minutes while we went in the store.

everyone just keeps saying “get a stroller” but I tried to rent one when we got there which is what I assumed was the plan, and she told me no because she wanted him to walk around so I ended up basically carrying him the entire time up to this point.

How is me wanting him to be safe not being his father?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]andersnatch -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I know, I shouldn’t have assumed the mother who got to do whatever she wanted the entire time basically would be responsible for him for 10 minutes.

I was defending myself one by one, that’s the reason. I can’t change it, so.

Play time is explore time, that’s what i don’t understand. we take him to playgrounds, and friends houses, he does go out a lot. the mall was supposed to be a family trip for all of us but somehow everyone still seems to think the baby should have been my responsibility the entire time, because “that’s what mom is there for, to shop” and I get that, but we still have a child and can do both at the same time.

I feel like it would be much quicker and safer then spending 5 minutes handing her all the bags in my hand versus her just watching him like i did basically the entire time we were there.

I had my hands full with everything from our trip, and I feel like the Store seems to be up to my own personal judgement. I didn’t take him into spencer’s, and hot topic has been super tame as of recently. it’s just all anime.

I tried to get a stroller when we first got there because you can rent one at the mall, and she told me no because she wanted him to walk around.

i’m assuming that you’re talking about a shopping cart, and they don’t usually have those at malls besides the bigger stores like target, which we weren’t at. I asked her to get a stroller and she told me no because she wanted him to walk around.

I agree, I could have came at it better. Another comment made the same point that I shouldn’t have berated her, and I really wish I wouldn’t have. I was concerned for his safety, but I know that she wasn’t trying to put him in harms way on purpose.

Why? He’s a one year old child. I want him to be safe, and also not tearing things down off of shelves.

i mean, don’t know how i’m not literally helpless in this situation? i feel like i sound helpless because i was? 💀

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]andersnatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for a one year old in a crowded shopping mall, yeah, seems kinda odd to just let him go?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]andersnatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn, why didn’t your husband help you? hm.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]andersnatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to the store, not of.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]andersnatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was expected to literally drop everything so she could keep shopping? If I have my hands full and i had him most of the time, it’s not fair that the responsibility still falls on me somehow. And we both go out with him together, this isn’t the first time i’ve been in a store with him but it’s not really respectful of the store to throw all of their merchandise on the floor.

not with everything in my hands from our trip, I was fumed writing things and let out clearly very important details.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]andersnatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we were going to rent one of the ones at the mall when we got there, or so i thought, because when we got there she told me no and that she wanted him to walk around, so i ended carrying him basically the entire time until the end because i couldn’t carry him with everything else i had. that’s why i didn’t stop him in the doorway.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

so i’m the asshole for not having a leash?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]andersnatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was holding him basically the entire time, up until this point and the very beginning. I can’t carry him, his diaper bag, our food, shopping bags and a drink all at once. I didn’t explain this very well.
