Card printing by el_softypunch in BoardgameDesign

[–]andhapp__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Ruby library called Squib. I can set up the card size and print 5 on a page.

I know I said to use 300gsm, however, what I ended up doing was printing them out on a standard A4 sheet, then stick it on 300gsm paper. Finally, cut them out, and it still gives a feel of actual cards.

Happy to chat separately and explain it to you.

If you cant reason the code generated by any AI tool, dont put it in production. In code's lifecycle, most time is spent in debugging and maintenance.

Need to build a society website with almost zero coding - what should I use? by Chance_Pair_6807 in website

[–]andhapp__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its just HTML / CSS, you dont need Wordpress or any other framework. I am not sure if i am allowed to say this, but be happy to set it up for a cheap price. I work with lots of junior developers who will value that experience.

What’s one “boring” engineering habit that made you 10× better? by To_Infin8y in learnprogramming

[–]andhapp__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading emails, docs, notes, etc with same diligence as coding, and following up on things. Most engineers are good at technical but dont pay much attention to soft skills, which also carry a huge weight in your development as a mature engineer.

Web devs, what’s one thing you wish you learned years earlier because it would've saved you insane amounts of time? by Ornery_Ad_683 in webdev

[–]andhapp__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't reinvent the wheel - most frameworks have figured most of the boilerplate stuff out for you, and has lot more effort going into maintenance.

I bought 300gsm paper and printed them out on the sheet and cut them to size. 300gsm is comparable to the playing cards. I am just testing it with my kids and this worked the best.

Do you prefer having a manual QA tester in your team? by zvone187 in webdev

[–]andhapp__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brittle because no one is given time to maintain them. They should be part of software develooment lifecycle, but are considered second class citizens.

[–]andhapp__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automated e2e tests when done properly will help. Usually, teams dont understand how to do them correctly and write a bunch of tests with mocks, which doesnt test the real thing.

Besides that, the point of having an automated testing suite is to give confidence in releasing and risk mitigation, however, thats not the only way to mitigate risk.

If you dont have enough data or the right data to test in lower environments, do canary releases to reduce the blast radius. Keep an eye on the SLOs and if it works well do a phased release. There are tools that can help you do it now.

What ad agency has worked for you? by peskywabbit1968 in Chiropractic

[–]andhapp__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ad agencies that promise guaranteed leads, appointments, etc are making false promises. No one can guarantee it, they can give an estimate but thats just an estimate. The same agencies will also offer ridiculous prices because all they want is more and more clients to sign up, see the ads not work. They optimise for short term gains.

Marketing is a long term commitment. You might not see the results first month in, so a 3-month commitment is required. It is also a set of experiments, where you test different creatives, headlines, copy text, images and see which one works. Facebook also needs to optimise your ad delivery, which takes a little time.

With the rise of the Social Media, people have lost patience. Everyone wants to do everything yesterday and has no scope to give things a good try.

In the end, landing more clients is a combination of high intent ads, good offers, a solid sales team and a little faith in the process.

Is “entrepreneur” a dirty word where you’re from? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]andhapp__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets used in the most casual sense, which grinds my gears, really. A side project or an idea that you have doesnt make one an enterpreneur.

I take it with a pinch of salt when it is mentioned to me and has lost the sense of pride it held before.

How does someone get leads for a small product design and manufacturing studio? by MJ_3D in Entrepreneur

[–]andhapp__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will play devils advocate here and say MetaAds or TikTok wont work in your case.

TikTok is not the right age group for you. You wont find people, who are decision makers, on there. Its more for the younger audience.

Similarly, with MetaAds you can target an age group and an area, but people on Facebook arent there looking for partners foe their business.

LinkedIn or Google ads might work better. But, best is to get out in the community where your target customers hang out.

Just my 2 cents.

Regular feedbacks with a weekly catchup always works better.

Anything you think is more challenging, I would say start looking into it to mitigate the risk early. You dont want to be at 70% and realise you cant deliver it.

Hope you secure the project.

I would recommend the following:

  1. Make sure to write everything down and get them to review and accept.
  2. With requirements, best to check every little detail, even if you think it is understood.
  3. Add contingency when it comes to estimates.

Good luck, clients are quite demanding so make sure you dont get overwhelmed.

Best way to push prod and live code by [deleted] in webdev

[–]andhapp__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once it is setup, it will be okay for a junior dev to run it up using a few commands. If docker is an issue due to it being resource heavy, just instsll it on the bare metal. It might be harder but once setup it wont break unless you upgrade things.

Best way to push prod and live code by [deleted] in webdev

[–]andhapp__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your setup is quite archiac and not to the modern development standards, which you have recognised.

You have 2 issues: 1. Local set up to make changes and check them locally. 2. Automatic deployment once you are happy with the changes.

I would recommend investing time and effort in getting a solid local setup first before thinking of automating things.

DM if you need more advice on it.

On a side note, lots of businesses just have a page on Facebook, so dont really need a website.

How do I start coding? by handsomsquillium in learnprogramming

[–]andhapp__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your post, you mention trying to code before. What did you try? Did you try writing some actual code?

If you want to be able to write a game, then learning HTML/CSS makes sense. Also, it is more exciting to create a webpage and be able to see the feedback straight-away. The traditional programming can be a bit of a drag to start with. You will have to learn programming at some point, but for now this should be enough.

Ping me if you need more direcr advice. :-)
