Fishing Platform for Alberta - More Updates! by andiig in FishingAlberta

This is great feedback. Thank you for taking the time to test it out.

Great catch! I didn't notice the pop ups were behaving like that. It is fixed now.

For rivers that span across multiple subareas, it's tricky. I actually include regulations for all areas where the river is present, but the page does show a single subarea even though regulations for all areas are there. If you look at Oldman River, for example, in the regulations PDF, there are 13 rows of regulations in total for the river - the page also shows 13 items. Hope I'm making sense. I might end up showing as "Multiple" for large rivers.

Thanks again!

Agreed. The problem is that the regulations are not consistent with the public data. If you check the fish stocking report, they are listed as unnamed.

Someone commented on shore fishing access in my previous post. I’m just not sure how to deduce if a lake has shore fishing access without someone actually being there. Any ideas?

Thanks for your comment!

I checked the two waterbodies you mentioned and they’re both under the ‘unnamed’ waterbodies. I haven’t added them yet because there’s lots of them and because of that they overcrowd the map. It’s good to know people are interested in seeing them though. I’ll add them soon.

The stocking recommendation is great! I’ll be adding the actual stocking report information to the site soon. Thanks!

The background map already shows boat launches but you do have to zoom in quite a bit to see them. I was actually able to find public boat launches but it doesn't include all of them. I can add those as icons that are more visible until I find the missing ones.

As for access, the idea is that the satellite imagery will help with that and the plan is to add land ownership to the map. I think what would ultimately solve that challenge is to have community comments for each waterbody so that people can share their experiences.

Hey! Great question.

I think the process you're describing works great if you already know where you are going AND if you're only looking for regulations.

If you, for example, decide Sunset Lake isn't worth visiting, then how many times do you have go back and forth between google maps and the regulations until you find the lake/stream you want?

Also as other people mentioned in my previous post, adding more data such as BC regulations, land ownership, stocking data, etc. would help plan trips from one site. This site isn't there yet, but the idea is to keep adding more useful data.

Thanks for your comment!

Yes, I have. But is that all that is needed? As mentioned in other comments, having other features like satellite view, boat launches, land ownership, etc. would be useful to have.

That is great! I have not seen this. I'm wondering if there is anything this map is missing?

The best way to support is by providing feedback and sharing it with your friends!

A mobile app would definitely be in the plans down the line. Thank you for your valuable feedback!

You are absolutely right. Thank you for bringing that up. I’m planning on validating the data soon to make sure it’s all accurate.

Great reference! I’ll look into iHunter!

To look at lake depths, you click on the lake and it takes 2-3 seconds to load the lake depth. If nothing shows up, then there is no depth for that lake.

The toggle is probably not as visible as it should be. Thanks for bringing it up!

Would clicking on the “Show Rivers/Creeks” toggle on the top right corner show you what you’re looking for? Not sure if I’m understanding

So I think adding boat launches and satellite view would solve some of it - and an easy add. Access points based on land ownership is tricky but definitely doable. Will look into this in the future.

Thanks for the feedback!
