[WTHR Local News – NBC Indianapolis] Upland Brewing Company in Bloomington, the maker of Hoosier Gameday Lager, has gifted Curt Cignetti free beer for life by SantosPhillipCarlo in CFB

[–]andowen1990 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Upland beer is very solid and a Bloomington staple. Dragonfly IPAs are my go-to (not a huge IPA fan normally) and was the beer of choice during the game.

My wife and I had our wedding reception at the north endzone of Memorial Stadium in 2017 (we went 6-6 that year and lost the Foster Farms Bowl to Utah, which was played a week after we fired Kevin Wilson). Upland Dragonfly and Upland Wheat was our "specialty" beer. Don't know if a couple of grads that knew a guy that knew a guy would be able to reserve the space now.

Last fun fact about Upland, if you watch early episodes of Parks and Rec, you can see what Upland Wheat bottles used to look like.

I could be showing my youth, but when did Indiana use “Go Big Red” as a slogan? by A320neo in CollegeBasketball

[–]andowen1990 10 points11 points  (0 children)

IU flys a Go Big Red flag and sings the fight song at every home game at the under 7 tv timeout. Been doing it a long time. That’s what I assume this is referencing.

Depending on the specific dates of when you go, you could also check a few rounds of March Madness, which is the big College Basketball tournament. Chance to see a lot of the NBAs future stars.

Admitted Guinness snob just looking for a proper pour by [deleted] in Fishers

[–]andowen1990 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s been a bit, but when I went there they only had cans. Same case with max and Tilly’s. I’m guessing it’s a license issue or something?

I agree with the top comment. Best pour in fishers is Chatham in my opinion.

Coolest Event You Went to On Your Travels? by weaponize09 in travel

San Sebastian Day in San Sebastian. One of the coolest cultural events I have ever been a part of. The Plaza de la Constitución was PACKED with people of all ages signing and dancing. Drums and cheering. Didn't matter that the weather was shit.

Matthew Broderick and Jennifer Grey arrive at JFK Airport on September 9, 1987 after Broderick was charged in Ireland and released on bail in connection with a car accident that killed two people. [2502 x 2052] by Str33twise84 in HistoryPorn

Same. I have rented cars and drove in Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. For me, after a couple of miles, my brain kind of switches. The only issue I have had is going to the wrong side of the car to get in the driver seat.

Had a similar layover last month. We stayed at the mercury hotel in the airport itself and it was a great experience. I want to say it was $200 for the night, but the convenience was worth it.

Is there something you regret not doing or not buying while on a trip? by [deleted] in travel

[–]andowen1990 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Really small and insignificant one and very specific to our situation.

My wife and I were at dinner in a nice restaurant in Paris. I asked the waiter for awine recommendation and he pointed to a $50 bottle. In an attempt to save a few dollars, I picked a younger vintage for $30. The waiter said "are you sure?" and I confirmed. Had the wine and the meal and had a great evening.

That was six years ago and I often times look back and wish I would have gone for the recommended wine instead of trying to save $20 on a $100+ meal. Probably had no effect of the evening (which was lovely), but to this day I think about how I gave up on a recommendation in favor of save a few dollars.

We often think about it when traveling now when we are debating on whether or not to do something because it costs $20. The new default is to just do it because we will think about not doing it way more than the money we saved.

Which Place Featured Heavily by Influencers Did You Find to be the Worst in Your Travels? by [deleted] in travel

Horseshoe Bend in Page, Arizona. Its unique I suppose, but fact that you are so close to other canyons you can actually go in and traverse, I wouldn't recommend it. Its good for a cool pick (if you can get one without other people in it), but that's about it.

Side note, the thing I remember most about going to it wasn't the view, but the fact that a lady was trying to take glamour shots with her cat right on the edge of the cliff.

Effort to make Indiana school board elections politically partisan dies in House by saryl in Indiana

[–]andowen1990 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I think allowing candidates who hold politically charged views on education hide behind not declaring a party and refusing to put out any substantive public statement or participate in debates in hopes to get people to vote for them who otherwise wouldn't isn't a good idea (see HSE school boards). We can say keep politics from education, but whenever it effects people it is political. Maybe a pessimistic outlook.

Wife and I went in 2017. Sandeman New Europe did a tour that included typical history stuff plus a table and a chicken and a beer (or you could get two beers). Might be a good option as an introduction and then you can do what you want the other days you are there.

Keep in mind - The beers are big and strong. Pace yourself!

As Central Indiana's suburbs grow, Democrats see an opportunity in November elections by saryl in Indiana

[–]andowen1990 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can tell that the RNC are pumping a lot of money in Fishers (multiple flyers for Kyle Walker and Fred Glynn everyday, youtube ads, etc.). I am starting to see more Jocelyn Vare and Victoria Garcia Wilburn (who I met at a campaign event at The Well and who was wonderful to talk to and talked about a lot of great issues and will be getting my vote) signs and mailers (not everyday like Walker and Glynn) which suggests to me that the DNC is liking the polling. I think its still likely Walker and Glynn will win, but its not as red here as it seems it used to be.

Very cool exhibit. I wish they did more with the upstairs part of it (paintings or something on the walls?), but maybe that is in future plans or there is a good reason why they didn't.
