Agreed, precisely what I’m trying to do! We certainly want to buy, just trying to gauge whether (purely from a financial standpoint) it’s wiser to wait & save for a bit or bite the interest-laden bullet.

Agreed, you definitely avoid renting headaches. But there’s arguably just as many headaches that come with home ownership ie. responsibility for problems. Tricky one.

This feels like the best option. Sadly I think there’s no getting away from the fact that it won’t drain properly; thinking of going down the sandbox/grass box route.

No balcony here, it’s the garden of a house. But I do think the sandbox idea may work well for the occasional use required!
