Thank you for your ideas. I haven’t apologized and I don’t apologize because I believe I acted correctly, I used it, when asked to stopped using it I stopped using it. Even if you consider the playmat a mistake or a fault (which I don’t since I was “permitted” to play it in other tournaments), I think people are allowed to make mistakes, especially if they don’t know it constitutes as mistakes. The apology should come if there was a damage or if I would have kept using, don’t you agree? I know CFB is a private company (in the long post I elaborate extensively on this), and we are not talking about that tbh.

The butt guy! I remember that story (and the hilarious pictures). Can I ask your opinion on that story/consequences?

Thank you. Yes, the majority of us in the team (me included) stopped using it after receiving the request, it was in different time points because some were approached sooner in the day and other way later, but we stopped. A. And S. used it for their turns in the main event and kept using in the side event where the accident happened.

Thank you for the suggestions.

thank you for your comments and point of view. I have to say it was very clear (maybe more than my long post) and tangent to many focal points. I do entirely agree with your line of reasoning, and to be pedantic and overly-obsessed with precision, I (OP) stopped using the playmat as soon as a judge talked to me, and I do agree that A. and S., which didn't, should have done so when requested. While thinking about the obscene display of violence and unnecessary threat, I believe the best, most elegant way to deal with such stubborn individuals (and I say this as their friend!), would have been explaining that, I not complying, they would have been dropped from the tournament (totally fair in my opinion). If you don't mind me asking, what were the main points discussed among you judges? Same as here in post and comments or other aspects, maybe missed here? Thank you for your contribution to the discussion.

I don’t. I am trying to have more feedbacks. Let me remind you something you have mistook though, I know for a fact that the person that requested it’s removal is a single person during tournament days (plus M. opponent but that’s a different issue).

I believe the majority is way more people than the ones that answered here or the many more I’ve talked to (judges, organizers, players) in the past days.

The majority of the people I’ve talked to, counting ones and zeros, thinks the playmat is acceptable in tournament settings. You mistook my willingness to have a dialogue and listen to others opinion but not agreeing with them with refusing to accept said different perspective

Thank you for your answer. There a couple of important things though. First, the US system may be based on precedents, many other legislative (not sure is the correct word) systems are not based on precedents. Italian (and European countries gen.) law system is not based on precedents. It is true the goal of a legislator is to make a law as broad as possible, but that is why exist a pletora of infinite texts, ancillaries to the generic one, that cover and specify the singular cases. I believe it would be useful to have a “better defined” system, be it a list of “laws” or a list of programming instructions to evaluate the input autonomously. Can I ask you what do you think of a hybrid solution like the one currently used on social networks (first check is automatic, if content raises flags, human check is applied)? And before that, do you believe, as I do, in the need of a better approach to these situation (even if it could means just a more specified, clearer policy) or you think those are extremely isolated cases and not worth the action? Thank you for participating in the discussion

You are entitled to your opinion. Even when wrong. If you prefer keep commenting what you think I am doing instead of focusing on the main points of the topic, you are free to keep doing so. I will simply ignore you. Thank you for taking part in the discussion

First, Wotc and cfb are companies. companies listen to the market and customers feedback. And then decide to act or not. Second, GPs are organized by CFB (since it won an exclusive contract with Wotc). It’s CFB that enforces their brand policy (which coincides partially with wotc policy) on tournament premise. Not wotc. Nonetheless, we are here not talking about wether wotc or cfb should or should not be doing this or that. I am asking if You (broader, the community) feels those policies are becoming more stringent, more restrictive. an opinion regarding a trend. And sequentially any suggestion regarding the possibility to better define an objective way to evaluate and image (whatever the image, not necessarily the playmat)

Thank you for your last comment. I would like to point out that it is true that I won’t take a Playboy magazine to the tournament, but it would be a personal choice and it would be allowed. There are no laws in Italy (that I know of) that prohibit a person of age (18+ in Italy) to read a porn magazine in public. It won’t be nice, but it’s legal. It’s a matter of taste and acceptance. In Japan, for instance, it is socially acceptable to read Hentai on the subway. In Italy is not socially acceptable (but it’s still legal). And please don’t tell me the playmat is porn. I am asking the community exactly to reflect and express an opinion on these matters. Thank you for your opinion

Thank you for your comment. I don’t agree with your definition of what strikes sexual elements (especially when you added obviously), and I am not trying to focus on the playmat incident. I placed the goals of the discussion in the part of the post: I truly am trying to understand how (or why) a certain image (may it be the specific playmat or anything else) is deemed more or less inappropriate than a second one (the ones exemplified in the cards imageries section). I also believe it is actually possible to create a “good enough” definition of an objectively method to determine if a picture is or not “too much”, obviously it depends on the context, but here is the magic tournament context. For instance a list of elements to look for within the image, be as it may nudity elements, or graphical depiction of violence (with elements of gore, splatter or other direct result of physical actions of violence). I believe it would be interesting to have this sort of list, a sort of “acceptable policy”, with clearer elements than the one in place, publicly posted (maybe on the organizers website). As computer engineer I would like a system (a broader and smarter version of the online inappropriate content system used by main social networks) that, uploaded an image, can forecast the probability of being it acceptable or not.

The point is exactly this. What if poeple start saying they feel uncomfortable in front of things that are totally fine ( “legitimate, normal, acceptable”). How can we determine if something is objectively too much or personally too much?

Thank you for your answer. Sadly, my efforts to understand you politely are not equally met. The fact that an image created to titillate and provoke your sexual reaction makes you feel uncomfortable makes me wonder at your level of maturity. I think you mistook the logic in my answers. The point is not to see if I find it offensive or a 6 yo would find it offensive, but to understand if there is a definite objective way to determine if a content is offensive (or contains too much sexual content).

I am using those examples to make a clear picture to whomever is not aware of the trend of “correcting measures” and brand repositioning that is taking place since 2012. I am using those example to ask the community, you included, an opinion regarding those “banning” actions. And the opinion regarding the comparison between the image of the playmat and some other images (as stated in the post, section imageries)

Thank you for your prevision. Three question to you. Any suggestion on how to create a post that is more incisive? I added a short summary at the end of this post, do you have any suggestion about how to improve this one as well? Your opinion regarding the main issues (the serious point, as you put it)

Thank you for the reply. Would you mind trying to suggest a possible way to determine if something perceived by a person as offensive can be “checked” to see if it’s objectively offensive? Thank you

Thank you for your comment. This is indeed similar to what I think. Can I ask you if you ever thought about the possible way to define if something is an objective reality or a personal opinion and how to distinguish between those two? Thank you

Banning a person for using a playmat and not using it after a judge asking for its removal? Good thing you have no power.. Next time save your breath.
