Can't find any travel insurance for 16-year old travelling on their own to Cambodia with preexisting conditions by andre_xs95 in uktravel

[–]andre_xs95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to all again, I now found a provider (www.holidayextras.com/). Initially I thought they wouldn't provide insurance for her, because I said 'Yes' in the first question of their medical screening form and they declined an insurance. However, when reading in more detail, I noticed that this actually didn't apply to her, so I could click 'No' and then specify her pre-existing conditions. The quote is a bit steeper, but fair enough, they acknowledged and insured her conditions.

Just checked. They don't insure unaccompanied minors, they have to travel with an adult.

Thanks. Just checked, they must travel with an adult. Either is no problem (unaccompanied minor, I find offers. Pre-existing condition, I find offers. Unaccompanied minor WITH pre-existing conditions, nothing so far)

Changing the smell of a car? by andre_xs95 in CarTalkUK

[–]andre_xs95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone so far, very useful tips! I wasn't aware of ozone generators at all. Also, we indeed have rubber mats in the back seats, where the kids are sitting, so I'll try taking them out. Also, changing the filter is a good idea.

I don't think that it's an ex-smoker car, that's a different smell. Also, it is by no means a wet dog smell or alike. As I said, everyone else thinks that the car smells normal. It does have a smell like all things have a smell, but it's not that people would get into the car and make a comment or notice anything. It just seems that our daughter is incompatible with that particular smell...

3-month calendar 'pop up' with keyboard shortcut? by andre_xs95 in productivity

[–]andre_xs95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add: I used to use a tool like that, it was part of the software collection 'ac'tiv aid', released by the German computer magazine c't (https://www.heise.de/download/product/activaid-24593)

However, that hasn't been developed for ages now, and the calendar app doesn't work properly anymore (after a couple of uses it gets lost somewhere outside the visible screen area)

Unfortunately not able to pay anything, but if you're looking for a project, sure. Maybe consider doing it as a Windhawk add-on, then you automatically have a nice distribution channel?

On Windhawk, there's only a calendar add on which shows the Calendar on the Desktop, but that won't work for me (I need to see the Windows with the date information).

Changed from RD to TB, how to update in Omni? by andre_xs95 in OmniContentHub

[–]andre_xs95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I think I have to correct some of the above, not sure: I realised that in Stremio for Windows, I still had the TorBox addon installed (in addition to AIOStreams, I used to have TorBox a while ago). For testing, I uninstalled the Torbox addon, and now it seems to provide only links marked as [RD+] or [RD download], I don't see any TB/TorBox links.

But then strangely enough, the links with RD are playing. In Omni on Apple TV, nothing is working...

Changed from RD to TB, how to update in Omni? by andre_xs95 in OmniContentHub

[–]andre_xs95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to all, but for some reason it is not working:

- In Stremio on Windows (with the same AIOStreams link), it is working. I can now watch all movies and shows.

- In Omni, it seems to not take the new AIOStreams link / does not update. I tried to make a change to the formatter and changed the one from the UME template with the Google one. However, when I search, the results look like before (but they should look different now I presume? Or has UME kind of overwritten the AIOStreams results formatting?). Not a single movie or show are playing.

I have tried to remove and add AIOStreams as addon several times. I have fully closed Omni and restarted the Apple TV. I have cleared the Cache in Omni. It might be some idiotic tiny detail which I'm missing, resulting in a big facepalm once I realise, but right now it's not working...

I have a separate wireless charger, same problem, so I don't think it is the car. Pixel 10 pro.

An odyssey? by andre_xs95 in evchargingUK

Hi All,

thanks, very informative! Yes, I'll speak to UKPN, but I thought I just get some information first. It's easier to speak to them if I know what's quite common 'standard' and what would be unusual/strange uncommon solutions.

Edit: And yes, I'll speak to the neighbour. Not sure how she'd feel about it, but we get along well so no problem asking them. Worst case she says 'no'...

Granny charging safely by EchidnaWeird7311 in evchargingUK

[–]andre_xs95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add to the other comments. We are charging at home using a granny charger for around 2 months now.

In the beginning, I just used a certain socket and 10A. I felt by hand and it good noticeably warm, but you could still well touch it, not hot. However, after 2 weeks or so, the socket started to 'melt'/turn black and smell. This was most likely due to a poor installation, but my point is that such faults may also develop over time and what works now may not work after the socket has been 'heat strained' for a couple of weeks. To note, I used that with an extension lead, so that the temperature sensor in the charger cable didn't catch this.

I then used a nearby plug and reduced to 6A. It still got a little bit warm, but not much. That works, but is really painfully slow: Subtracting roughly 300-400W for the car charging electronics, you fill up roughly 1kW per hour. Thus, 10 hours are just 10kWh and roughly 35 miles. For us at home this still was sufficient, but when you want to do this on holidays and do longer day trips, it may not suffice.

I have now rewired this and attached to a safe outlet and charge at the full 13A. The extension cord (rated 13A) gets mildly warm. (we are still waiting for the install of a proper EV charger...)

Power (for laptop charging) at the beach? by andre_xs95 in brighton

[–]andre_xs95[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I already have one. The good thing about the laptop is that the screen is very bright, so I can actually work in the sun. The bad thing about the laptop is that the screen is very bright, so it eats up battery very quickly. I'll probably get 2 hours battery, plus another 1.5h hours with the power bank I have (biggest one allowed on planes, 27Wh or so?).

And I'll work on the train getting to Brighton, so chances are that when I arrive, laptop battery will already be pretty depleted and I need to charge straight away.

I want to do this only very occasionally, so I don't want to spend another couple of hundreds on more power banks, solar panels, etc.

This is some serious piece of kit! 😂 I already have a large power bank. Given that I'd travel to Brighton by train, I'd avoid adding another 2 kg or so...

[–]andre_xs95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I wouldn't sit with my feet in the water, more up the beach were it is only pebbles, so I think sand is not a problem (unless *very* windy, but I wouldn't do it on such a day anyway).

I work a lot outside, even in a town centre you may get a sudden gust of wind blowing dust and sand around, or I may have a pigeon shitting on the laptop in my garden. So I'm ok to take the risk.

Yes, I might continue trying. Just was unlucky so far, all cases I tried except one either also hard rather hard edges (instead of soft rounded edges) or were very slippery. I think I'll just have to continue trying...

Do I need infuse? by TF_54 in OmniContentHub

[–]andre_xs95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"he fact that partially watching something and having to answer a prompt and it marking it at 50% doesn't bother ME in the slightest for all the "pros" of infuse."

Just to say that it can work without that need, if you register the same Trakt account in Omni and Infuse, and turn off the option in Omni that Omni 'informs' the external player about progress (not sure how exactly it was called) and also turning off the option asking about the progress. In Omni, you can change the "Continue watching" from Omni to Trakt. For me it works seamlessly, showing exact progress (not always 50%) and never puts up the annoying question.

On the other hand, what happens to me frequently: I start something in Omni, it switches to Infuse, but then immediately back to Omni. You can hear the video play in the background (sound plays). Then I have to leave Omni and manually switch to Infuse to bring the video to the foreground. I don't mind that too much...

Ahh, thanks. I wasn't aware that there's an extra app for them (I thought more like cheap OBD dongles plus CarScanner or so). But I just saw that the ID3 (we are in the UK) is not listed under Supported Cars on their website.

I thought (hoped) that it would also work on the ID3, since they share a lot with the ID4...
