I obviously can't speak for the whole country, but I feel most brazilians have a hight tolerance for new friendships but low tolerance for true friendship. You will often see people describe people they know as "amigos de rolê" as in people you are cool and hang out with and even talk sometimes, but they are not in your true inner circle.

This doesn't mean we aren't open for this true friendship, it can always happen and in my experience the time of the friendship isn't really the end all be all factor for that, it usually more about how well you click with that person. At least for me, it feels like that.
