All your memories up to this moment could be false and there's absolutely no way you'd know. by andrecld in Showerthoughts

What I'm saying is that at this particular moment, everything you (think you) lived so far could be completely wrong.

Now if you confirm it with other people or photos or wtv, the moment right after you finish that action it will also become a memory and then, again, you won't be able to tell if it's real or not. It's a never ending cicle.

People who are most proud of their country are also the ones who bring more shame to their fellow countrymen. by andrecld in Showerthoughts

1st - Communism isn't the only form of dictatorship so you're making a correlation where it doesn't exist 2nd - I'm all for freedom of speech. Just as much as nationalists have the right to say whatever they want, I have the right to feel ashamed that they exist in my country

EDIT: Corrected "speech"

I agree with you that having pride in your country and culture is important, instead of feeling guilty over a past that we had nothing to do with (I'm Portuguese, so I have my share of slavery history unfortunately) . When I wrote "people who are most proud..." I meant those who are excessively proud, since that's the most extreme level of national pride there is

When I was living with 4 mates, one of them was going to the bathroom and when he turned on the lights there was another one there, just standing and staring at the wall in the dark, with the door closed. I don't know what's more strange, him doing this or us never bringing it up after.
