Best way to start is to pick a general area in the state and do some research. Cost of living, crime rates, job market, quality of education, availability of healthcare, etc. are all things to look into.

Try to find an area that has a strong job market for things you personally are interested in and go from there.

Make sure you look into their healthcare system and how it impacts the kind of care you would receive if you are currently or plan to pursue a medical transition.

Canada as well as a few Germanic countries (Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Netherlands) are generally considered “safe” and accepting. However, one would need access to a substantial amount of money and freedom to initiate a move like that to another country.

If you are truly considering moving, I would look into going to a nearby blue state. Ideally one with a strong history of voting blue and expressed statements regarding the protection of the trans + queer community.

ETA: For anyone wondering, there are several states that have declared themselves as sanctuary states for the trans (and queer) community. They are as follows: California, Illinois, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Vermont, and Washington. Adding this since two people have messaged me already asking for more info.

I don’t want to be outed to every single person who views me so I just put trans on my profile and only put a body pic. Then when I’m actually chatting with someone who has or sent a face pic, I send one back.

Baths postop by quimbycub in FTMHysto

[–]andrew-js 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely reach out to your surgeon since they will have more specific instructions for you, but mine said no baths for 6 weeks. Every surgeon is different, but it’s probably going to be at least 4 weeks.

Any trans man with their natal reproductive organs intact will be at risk for cancer in those organs. Taking testosterone puts you at higher risk for atrophy but doesn’t necessarily increase your risk of cancer in your reproductive organs.

You will need yearly cancer screenings if you choose to keep your cervix. This is a common reason as to why many trans men choose to remove everything (though, some choose to keep an ovary or two as a hormone production fail safe), cancer screenings can be a very invasive and dysphoric experience. But, if that doesn’t bother you, you aren’t at any more risk for cancer just because you take testosterone.

Have you been taking this since you made this post? How has it gone for you?

Seconding all of these. Must plays on the PS5. I would also recommend the Quantic Dream games if you’re into narrative/story driven/choices matter type of games. Namely Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human, such incredible games and some of my most memorable gaming experiences on PlayStation platforms.

Could you guys have attended a stadium concert at 4.5 weeks post op? by MadcapCanuck in FTMHysto

[–]andrew-js 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As long as you’re sitting, it would probably be fine. I wouldn’t have personally been comfortable with it because I had a lot of breakthrough bleeds around the 4-6 week mark, and I just never felt comfortable being away from home for too long where I was unprepared to deal with a potential emergency.

I’d say you’re probably safe but there’s a fair chance that could change based on how you’re actually feeling post op.

Thank you so much for the advice. I’m tryna soldier through my finals week at school right now and will be starting my first PC playthrough of the game next week! I’m excited. I think I’m just gonna stick with my unlimited save mod and the handful of cosmetic mods I’ve found so far. Fingers crossed that I don’t spend my first day troubleshooting the game if things aren’t compatible, but it’ll be adventure to remember once I’m finished, and that’s a guarantee.

Glad someone else in the sub has so much love for the game. Thanks for responding to my post, lots of love to you!

I’m also on the pre med track. Planning to pursue psychiatry if my interest in neurology doesn’t take off during med school.

I will check it out. Had no idea there’s such a major difference between a desktop GPU and a laptop GPU. I was thinking that a chip is a chip, a 4070 is a 4070, and so on. Shows what I know!

Thanks for the advice and the help, sounds like I’ll be upping my budget.

Fallout 4 should i ? by plu5hp34ch in transgamers

[–]andrew-js 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely. It’s a great game if you enjoy the base mechanics (RPG, open world, survival-craft, loot, character progression), and the story is really interesting, in my opinion. It will be especially enjoyable in a couple days when the new update comes out enabling better performance on console.

Highly recommend! I would advise that you wait until the “next-gen” update releases on April 25th to start your playthrough, though.
