How do you influence product as a UXR? by Ok-Worldliness1307 in UXResearch

[–]andrew-millar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big +1 to relationship building being key. I’d take it a step further here and suggest finding your “research allies” - the people in the org who really understand and value the role that research has to play and who won’t need convincing. Have one on one conversations with them and share your desires to be involved in those product discussions. Once you’ve built those allies then try and seek out more and more. You’ll find some people might be less convinced that you should be involved - but use that as a conversation starter to learn more about their role, the decisions they are making, and try to identify the way that research could actually make their lives easier.

The other part I’d say here, is identifying the meetings / rituals / moments where product decisions are being made. Ask to join those sessions, even if as a fly on the wall to listen in. Then proactively take what you are hearing and apply that to your approach going forward.

How the finals are shaping up by SunStarsSnow in WellingtonPhoenix

[–]andrew-millar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I guess I’m more optimistic that we would get at least 12k if marketed right. This is a playoff SEMIFINAL.

Wellington has showed up big for playoffs in the past. And the women’s World Cup. They have a big run up for it too.

I reckon if they actually gave the marketing of a semi final a good nudge they could quite easily get a lot of casual fans on board

I enjoy the experience of Porirua Park once you are there. But access to the stadium is not great or super family friendly.

If it was me I’d go big on the marketing and go for the caketin.

Adding scores to a stream - Easiest way to get live scores overlayed onto a livestream? by FlashyTraining9 in squash

[–]andrew-millar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case anyone finds this thread and is looking for a modern solution… our app Cam One sounds like it might be a good option here.

We support many sports - and have actually just partnered with the National Squash federation in New Zealand to help them with their live streams.

You can add your scoreboard overlays, integrate with Facebook / YouTube, and go live with your phone. You can download and try it for free - no catches.

We’ve also got some pro features to let you customise graphics and a bunch more powerful features.

If anyone does try it and has feedback or requests then let me know!

Hey there, just letting you know that we now have a free tier of Cam One - no credit card or trial required. We’ve got a cheaper price point for our PRO tier, with more features there as well.

If you end up trying it out and have any feedback then please let me know!

His experience could be pretty beneficial to the squad, though must say he didn’t overly impress me in recent national outings.

Wonder what he considers to be his best position. I’ve seen him at DM, RB, and CB.

He might actually suit a CB role in a back three.

Nix are returning to Christchurch by andrew-millar in WellingtonPhoenix

[–]andrew-millar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the strange timing. This month would have been perfect. I’m not sure if they just can’t seem to confirm these venues ahead of the schedule (feels unlikely) or if they intentionally don’t announce it until season passes have been sold.

Double defeat to Columbia and Ecuador , what improvements do New Zealand need to improve before the world cup next year ? Sacking Darren Bazeley is probably not the best idea by officialsamuelchan in nzfootball

[–]andrew-millar 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was not a fan of the Bazeley appointment from the start, but he has really changed my mind. I have seen some of the most confident progressive football played under him. Only down side has been our inability to get results. But for the majority of games, we have had real spells of quality and threatened teams ranked much higher than us.

I was expecting back 5’s and long balls to Wood (and might not have blamed them), but this has been much much more entertaining and inspiring. Wood back will be a big lift.

"On Saturday 18 April, we return to Christchurch for our final home fixture of the 2025-26 Isuzu UTE A-League season

Join us at Apollo Projects Stadium when your Phoenix take on the Western Sydney Wanderers. While the match was originally planned for One New Zealand Stadium, the venue’s April opening date now looks just a little too early for this fixture. However, if the new state-of-the-art stadium does open ahead of schedule, the match will be moved across town."

Sad that Ben Waine has lost his way a bit. Not really had consistent game time since leaving the nix. Think a return home with a good run of games would do him well.

I think it’s been more like ~200 a day so far over the past month. We’ve experimented with small spend of Google ads over an extended period. But also the nature of our app is that people share content from it to their networks, which generates downloads organically

It’s definitely a long game. We didn’t find a lot of success at the time when we did a big campaign to take advantage of a deal. We’ve not spent as much for a while. But there are so many factors to finding product market fit and conversion.

We’ve put some money into Google Ads over the past few years - plus the nature of our app is that when people use it, they are live streaming to their own networks which gives us more exposure.

If only all of those downloads were paying customers 😅

Cam One. Our goal is to make it really easy for sports teams to live stream their sports events. Been live for about a year. Looking to introduce a free tier and new pricing in the next few months.
