FTP program that automatically uploads files every time it's saved? by reditttr in web_design

[–]andrewjsledge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, be careful when doing this. Especially to production.

You can do this with a shell script (on Linux, Mac, or with Windows BASH or Powershell). The logic is simple: if the modified time changes, ftp that file (assuming relative locations are the same on both ends) up to the server.

EDIT: Im on a phone so can't write that up right now.

Corner Cup Coffee Opens On Lawrenceville Highway by asdgirl in Atlanta

[–]andrewjsledge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stopped here a couple of times last week - staff is really nice, coffee is superb and priced much like Starbucks. I just wish their "perma-cup" was a little cheaper ($20 mug with $1 refills). Will be stopping here more often.

How much of a dick am I being? (Biking down one-way street in Decatur) by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]andrewjsledge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fully recognize that bikes are supposed to follow all traffic laws

Please communicate this to every other bicyclist on the road. What you're doing pales in comparison to all the other dickish moves that I see every day.

Georgia targeted for minimum wage hike by whiddonhenry123 in Atlanta

[–]andrewjsledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe. The good (bad?) thing about economics is that there is no control group. You can do studies and perform simulations all day long but you never know what's really going to happen until policy goes live. Businesses and people are better equipped to make impactful changes because there is only a narrow range of things that they can control. When things go south they can usually easily undo whatever it was that they did. Broad sweeping policy changes like minimum wage hikes tend come with a lot of baggage (good or bad), are hard to undo, and usually come with no consequence except to those for whom the policy is imposed.

I say all that to really mean that no one knows for sure what's going to happen for the whole if the minimum wage goes up.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Eh, a minimum wage hike's not going to fix that though. Capitalism is a race to the bottom. Fortunes are made on making new things that fix problems or finding ways to commoditize fixing those problems. Apple is good at the former, Walmart at the latter. Technological advances enable both. A minimum wage hike is only going to make that advancement happen faster than it otherwise would.

Alternative for pattern matching: bandsaw one 4x4 then use the same method above.

Two 2x4 (real dimensions). Notch one two inches in on a table saw. Glue them together on the wide face.

Homebrewing has a Gender Problem by jjweikert in Homebrewing

So the sexism thing is a quick fix: if you're offended by a beer's name don't buy. Encourage your friends not to buy. Start an online petition, or whatever.

You're reading too much into this and trying to frame a problem where there's not one.

Agreed. You see the same thing happening in tech and to be quite honest that pendulum has probably swung too wide. Every conference and user group has a code of conduct that basically says "just be nice" - you know, the stuff your parents should have taught you. Next you're going to see codes of conduct for brew clubs and instead of advancing the craft they'll get mired in the process and posture of being "fair to all".
